Oh, we didn't want to see Shanny go...believe me. He actually turned down more money from the Wings (and Montreal) so he could play in New York.

Greg, They just asked Shanny why he took less to come here.. He said he was watching the Rangers last playoff game last year.. And even though they had a terrible playoff against the Devils, the Ranger fans still gave the Rangers a standing ovation for the final 4 mins of gm4.. And for the record, I almost never pick a team in their first year back from a long playoff drought in the first round, not to mention a team that has never been there at all. They had to look at this as a step in the right direction at least, and killing a young goalie's confidence who holds the key to the franchise's future was a really bad move. So much for your team in the second round! Well I guess I'll have to wait to see their matchup. Yet if it's the Sabers or Devils can the Rangers win? I'll reserve my thoughts for later. It's amazing how cocky the ranger fans get with one series win a decade! It's no wonder people root against them, but the Islander fans are making them look good and that's crazy.

the ending of my men's league game could have been on a highlight reel tonight.

so we were down 4-1 with under five minutes to go. we got a short handed goal with 4:44 to get it to 4-2. got another quick goal to make it 4-3. so it gets down to about 1:30 left and my stupid defensemen takes a weak penalty. so they keep the pressure on in our zone the entire time so i couldn't make it to the bench. i covered the puck with 25 secs left . the other team wins the draw to the d and the guy rips a slapshot low to my stick side, i make a nice half butterfly trying to get it to the corner but it went straight to the guys stick who was on the post. i dove across the net, dropping my sticking hasek style and sprawled and made the save with the inside of my blocker right on the goal line up against the post. i hear the guy scream, "HOLY SHIT" as the puck slid into the corner. my d picks it up and flips it out of the zone and a forward picks it up, splits the d and scores with 8 secs to go.

it was fucking nuts. it was one of the top five saves i have ever made in my life. that and it lead to the tying goal, i was pretty fucking pumped about it. the guy didn't try to be fancy with the puck either, as soon as he got it, he ripped the one timer. the palm of my hand is sore as shit right now, but it was worth making the save.

my team was going nuts cause we have lost most of our games lately so it was pretty fucking sweet.

My loyalty lies in only one place - Detroit. And although I don't have a "second favorite" team, I grew up watching the NY Islanders in their glory years when they won 4 Cups in a row, so my dislike for the Rangers goes back a long time.

maybe the rangers d shut down one line of the thrashers, can they do it consistently against 4 lines. avery might be able to cause some trouble but he cant do it against every line the sabres have. the sabres probably have the deepest team in the playoffs. they had 4 players with over 30 goals and 7 players with over 20. if avery or your d tries to shut down a couple guys, some one else for buffalo will step up. they've been doing it all year.

Well my thoughts and predictions....

We will start off in the west:

Detroit has a well balanced team with strong goaltending in the pipes. Hasek is very reliable and brings a shit load of playoff experience to this team (not like they need much more) The question is how much more can Chelios take? The man IS 40 and not as young as when he was in Chicago. The Sharks have a good solid team. Thornton had the best season of his career so far this year. And if Nabokov goes down their backup is pretty solid himself. But I still would give it to Hasek. I think the Sharks are going to take this all the way but fall short. I give it to the Red Wings in 7 with this matchup. It is gonna be a doozie to watch though. Both teams have played outstanding.

The Ducks and Canucks. I don't know but somethign is telling me that the Ducks are gonna do to the 'Nucks what they did to Minn. Not to take away from the Canucks. Hell they grinded out wins from nowhere and they sure showed that they have endurance. But the Ducks...jesus are they playing well! They have, what seems to be a re-newed Selanne, the best defenseman in the NHL (IMHO) in Niedermayer and J.S. is solid in the pipes, but I have seem him play better. Luongo has played awsome the last series and will be tough for the ducks to get past, but I do see them getting past hime. And let's not forget that they also have Pronger...who is one of the hardest hitting Dmen in hockey.
I see the Ducks waiting for the Red Wings. Ducks in 6, MAYBE 5 Games.

Now with the east:
As much as I hate to admit it, the Rangers have impressed the living shit out of me. How they not only stormed their way into the playoffs but just WRECKED the Thrashers. Holy shit they never let up. Nylander and Straka were just on fire and Jagr stepped up a notch. I was actually scared for when my Devils face them. *and they will face them*
Lunqvist proved he is a top notch goalie with some of the saves he made. I do not think the Sabres have a chance. They might make a game but that is it. Even though thre Sabres were the best team in Hockey this year (along with the Wings) I see the Rangers are just plain hungry and meaner.

Devils and Senators. Well Ottowa has always been a problem for us in the playoffs. And for good reason. They have Heatly who was just awsome this year. 105 points and 50 goals. He certainly came a long way from Atlanta. And he also had a very similar season too last year if I remember correctly. But the Devils are playing like the Ducks and Rangers. Like a team unit. Zack Parise already has over 6 goals in the playoffs alone. And when he falls Gionta picks up the slack, then if he falls Elias and so on. And of course they have the best goaltender in hockey. Maybe ever. Broduer. If anything, this year showed he had the talent to back up the boasters. He shut down two of the best players with Vincent Lecav and Martin St. Louis. I really think out of the two teams so far, Tampa Bay was the better team. I see the Devils winning in 6 games.

I think they Rangers and Devils will meet in the East Finals and make it a series that might (I said MIGHT) rival the classic of 1994. Devils in 7

I think the Ducks will take it to the Red Wings and win in 6 games. (Sorry Gvac) I think the Ducks have the younger stronger team.

I see it a Devils vs. Ducks re-match. But...I hate to say it...this time the Ducks might win. (But I hope not)

As much as I hate to admit it, the Rangers have impressed the living shit out of me. How they not only stormed their way into the playoffs but just WRECKED the Thrashers. Holy shit they never let up. Nylander and Straka were just on fire and Jagr stepped up a notch. I was actually scared for when my Devils face them. *and they will face them*
Lunqvist proved he is a top notch goalie with some of the saves he made. I do not think the Sabres have a chance. They might make a game but that is it. Even though thre Sabres were the best team in Hockey this year (along with the Wings) I see the Rangers are just plain hungry and meaner.

Eh... Long lay off, rust.. I really did not have a great feeling about this game.. Plus they need to start playing smarter.. These penalties just are not letting them get into any groove.. They are continuously on D mode and on their heels.. You could only hold a team like buff back for so long.. And making stupid penalties, and having your D basically working all game, is not the way to go..
