I never posted the bullshit we had happen a few weeks back when our goalie had an emergency and didn't show up so we played without one. We did our best but the team we were playing wasn't even close to a team you could beat without a goalie to say the least. So we go six men, three d with one covering the net. They get shit goals and take a 2-0 lead early but what can you do? Then out of nowhere one of their guys takes a full slapshot from the point and it goes by our D's (playing goal) neck (below it a little) and crushes him in the chest. He could have died if it hit him in the right place bc he doesn't have the equipment and it made us go nuts. They were lined up to win it easily and there is a code about these things too. I refer back to the going to work tomorrow comment once more as well. So it calms down and they take some more slappers now from all over the ice and it seems to be two assholes specifically.

So they're up 4-0 going into the second and before the puck drops one of the guys is out there and I get his attention. I say cut the shit you're going to win no more slappers it's rediculous. Both D and the forwards nod and no shit they get the puck and he immediately takes a slapper high, above the net and our guy had to duck in order not to get hit.

Well of course it was on then. This time it was me who went nuts and this douche seemed to be jumping off the ice every time I went on (not that I wasn't hitting everyone at this point). Anyone who said a thing, I just hit them again I was done talking to these assholes. So finally I line up on the faceoff with the kid and I won it back and gave him a mean headbutt as I did it. The kid goes right down and somehow the ref saw nothing. As he gets up I notice it was the wrong fucking guy, in fact it was probably one of the few guys who wasn't being an asshole. Hell, he reaps the rewards of the other guys on his team due to their idiocacy, but I did tell him I got the wrong guy sorry bud. He let it go bc he knew we were pissed. I swear he looked just like the other asshole and may have been his brother.

So a few shifts later I'm out there again with the asshole and our team has yet to give him a good hit or anything and yet he's still taking slappers. Our guy by now knew to get out of the way and the refs really should have told them about it. So the puck goes over to the boards and is slowly rolling over our blueline. Our D tries to cut him off but their guy chips it softly up the boards and slides around him and picks up the puck along the boards above the circle. I happen to be right there and fucking lay him out Scott Stevens style and he down for a while. It was a clean, hard shoulder check as he put his head down to reel in the puck. I really blasted him and it was ugly. So what went wrong? IT WAS THE WRONG GUY AGAIN! The same poor fucker I hit last time and he was so out of it he couldn't even bitch. His team didn't even try to go after me bc they started the bullshit and I tried to throw down with #22 as I got tossed. He wouldn't even go near me, or anyone for that matter and the ref got all in my face and I gave him the business about controlling the game from the start and way to handle the slapshots. He knew I was right bc any other time I would have got suspended for the ripping him so fucking hard and just crushing their guy.

After that, no shit, their guys came over to our bench and tried to appologize and said no more slapshots. How nice of them! And of course they still won by double digits. The thing that stung most about our playoff loss today was that if we won we would have got to play these assholes again and I wanted it bad.

Okay so I realize I'm twenty minutes too late to the party guy, but I just realized Bertuzzi is now on the wings. How can you deal with that Greg?

As for USA hockey, it only picks up after your initial insurance, so I'd still have to pay out the initial 2k so it's not too helpful for me. I thought of that, believe me. I'm about to say fuck it and just get back on the ice anyway.

Playoffs are coming and with Shanahan gone we really, really needed a strong forward. I'm not a fan, but if he can give us some toughness up front and add some scoring the move was a no-brainer.

Hey, your Rangers had animals like Nick Fotiu and Tie Domi for years!

I was very disappointed though, Laroque and Brashier fought and it lasted only like 3 seconds, could of been a good one!

Dear Rangers,
Why, when you're apparently so awesome and are on a tear through the NHL do you inevitably shit the bed? Is Ranger an old Algonquin word that means "big poopin' in bed when it matters"? Because of you I am le sad this morning. Because of you I actually had to cheer for the Devils last night so that you could get some space between yourselves and the Isles.
I knew what I was in for when I started rootin' for ya, but why, oh why must you suck it up every season right at the end when you did decently the whole rest of the season. You make Tom Renney and the Baby Jesus cry.
No Window Love,

They can't win every game. With no rest at all it was inevitable that Henrik would have a let down. Montreal has impeccable special team and are great at moving the puck through the neutral zone. Plus, they were at home and playing for their lives in front of a raucus crowd. The Blue Shirts have gotten 23 out of a possible 30 points in their last 15 games. I wouldn't exactly call that shitting the bed. They have a few days to regroup now before going into Philly on Saturday night and then hosting Toronto Sunday. Even with the game in hand everyone has on them they still control their destiny with a 3 point lead.

They're going out early....you heard it here first

I don't want to play the Habs AT ALL in the playoffs....there's too much random historical stuff there....namely, the whole Halak thing...

Two other times they started rookie goaltenders no one had ever heard of (named Dryden and Roy) and won Cups....Halak looks awful good so far

I hope your right, I just think they are playing really good hockey going into the playoffs. The only problem I think they could run into is a good goalie. They don't play defense well, so if a team stops that offense they are done

Pittsburgh has a weak defense and a weaker goaltender. But they are a scoring powerhouse. Even still, I don't think they could take out the Devils or Ottawa in a best of 7. They could give anyone else a good run.

Looks like the islanders are all but done. Dipietro out indefinitely and he has been the only guy showing up lately. My only hope is that blake can break 40 goals this season (hes on 38). Smyth doesn't seem to be working out as planned but I hope they hold onto Bergeron.

They may be good offensively, but the playoffs are a whole different animal....

Its my belief that teams in the playoffs are only as good as their role players....cause your big guns are GOING to get shut down. Its just how it works. Last year Edmonton had guys like Pisani and Horcoff and Roloson step up and take them right to the Finals, much in the same way Carolina's role players (Stillman especially) won them the Cup.

That being said, I don't see a whole lot of good role players on Pittsburgh. Who's going to step up when Staal, Crosby and Malkin get shut down, which they will be? Roberts is a thousand years old, and LaRaque brings nothing to the table other than his fists, and will probably spend most of the playoffs scratched. Can guys like Colby Armstrong, Michel Ouellet and Maxime Talbot step up? I have my doubts.

And has Thibault supplanted Fleury? It seems like every time I see them on TV Thibault is playing. That's bad news in more ways than one.

I think it's likely that we'll see this series eventually. The worst part about it, though, is that even after you get through that, the winner is still looking at a brutal finals against Nashville, Anaheim or Detroit. We better start hoping for some first round upsets in the West.

BTW, Carolina followed its egg vs. TO with an even more embarrassing flop vs. the worst team in the league. Couldn't be happening to a better team. Enjoy the golf, Canes!

1) Learn to read bc I actually like Marty a lot and really respect his play. Twist beliefs? Are you high? Make sense.

2) I've explained, along with countless NHL commentators, how these goalie records will fall but not truly due to performance. How else can you explain that two, two goalies are about to break a long standing record after all this time in the same exact year? It's simple, the rules have changed so drastically that the record stood no chance and it being broken, among many others, doesn't hold up. If Marty and Roberto break the record, they'll both have to do it very close to the last game of the year for them as well. Seeing as that in the old format Marty has averaged well over 10 ties per season when he started over 70 games you'd have to be blind to see my point. It's called analysis, not biased stupid. And to have someone agree to stupidity is fucking hilarious.

3) I'll have you know I'm actually defending a team I truly despise bc it's right. You jump to conclusions about me hating Marty when in fact it's the furthest thing from the truth. So did I spell out my "logical sense" enough for even a terrible gambler to understand. Or is it you who are actually insanely biased. I rest my case.

Simple, he's not 25 any longer. Say what you will but you don't even have a backup who could step in as well if needed. You're really lucky Marty has stayed healthy and Lou bases his whole team around him. If you notice, he'll let anyone walk outside of Marty and I don't blame him for that and the commitment to their system has been amazing. Yet to think he isn't showing it right now, during this last stretch of 10 games, would be insane! He needs a rest and they simply aren't giving it to him. You ask later in this thread, "how he let that one in"? Well, do the math. He's played way below his ability of late. Sure he has a good game in there here in there, but he hasn't been himself. Also, there was a lot less travel in 73-74, so take that for what it's worth too. So no, taking in all those factors of my last two posts, it's NOT in the same ballpark. Now let's here you two talk up someone who isn't on your favorite team. Fucking Homers!

It's been Briere or Drury all season. We all know the team can't keep both. Personally, I'm leaning towards Drury, just because of size. I constantly watch Briere with one eye shut, anticipating the career ending hit that I am certain is lurking right around the corner. Amazingly, he keeps making it through these games. Unfortunately, I don't think you can toss Drury aside with that as a concern.

I was just about to post this. What the hell is Lou Lamoriello thinking? This makes no sense to me. It's not like they are fighting for their playoff lives. The guy did a damn good job in his first year in NJ.

What, is Lamoriello gonna start being like George Steinbrenner now and unless his team is dominant and in first place all the time, then it's considered a failure?

Lammorellou is going fucking nuts. How many good coaches does he need to can? I think he has a complex that makes him think only he has the capabilities of making a playoff run.
The kicker of it all is that Jersey should be nowhere near the level they are at this year. Look at Juliens record, both this year and career, it has to be some behind the scenes fuck up that caused this firing because this is literally embarrassing for Jersey.

Almost as emabarrassing as trading away 94 and going on a 12 game skid and trying to say the trade didn't take away from the team.

I thought there might be problems when, early in the season, Julien was interviewed and he said that there was a lot of veterans on the team and that they essentially coached themselves and he was pretty much not going tinker with something that worked.

That being said, I don't think Julien ever really put his stamp on the team. Also the lack of productivity on the power play in recent weeks and recurrring mistakes by Colin White and Paul Martin that have not been corrected probably contributed to his release as well.

Look for John MacLean to be at the helm when they move into the new arena.

Rangers with a shot to clinch a playoff berth on the island tonight... while also knocking the Islanders out of the hunt. I'm happy.
I still don't feel confident facing the Devils in the playoffs. Brodeur just kills us. I would much rather see a matchup against Atlanta. I like the way they are playing lately though. Lundqvist has been on fire since January and Sean Avery has been a huge spark for the team(12-2-3 since the trade). If our D gets healthy I think we may even have a shot at getting past the first round.

I have to agree with you. What is his game? The Devils are having one of the best seasons of their history, maybe ever if they win 2 of the last three. Broduer is showing he is aptly titled "The Man". So we hit a skid. With the injuries we had it was not surprising. Most of the talent is back now. And we are winning again.

But for Lou to shit-can Julien? God I hope this man knows what he is doing. Because right now he is starting to look like Bill Parcells. Power Hungry and needs to be in control.

Maybe they meant tomorrow

If anything, Lou will commit to D all the way and pull the O back in order to get ready for playoff hockey. It's been his direction since day one that the Devs play the way they do. And this firing is almost as bad as the Bolts firing Marty at the time they did. It's all about timing and Lou is trying to use a formula that worked once before for him. Also, is this a move to setup the return of Pat Burns as his health returns? Will Burns be behind the Dev's bench next year? If not, what good coach will even want to work for Lou as a coach with his eratic moves? I think this is a big issue moving forward.

spoon
04-04-2007, 05:23 PM
its bullshit

At least your goalie situation won't possibly cost you a playoff spot! The simple fact that Vol and Theo make the big bucks so management pushes to use them and back up their moves, while coaches seem to hold on to their past even when the future is staring them in the face. Just look at Budaj since they went with him full time: He's 12-0-2 in his last 15 games (pulled in one which they ended up winning under Theo) and was first star of the month for March. Theo started one game, and it's the Av's only loss in regulation last month. Funny huh?

Somehow, the Avs are still alive with the flames going 6-0 until they lost to Colorado in calgary last night. The Avs are by far the hottest team in the NHL over the last month and a half and it'll still take a miracle to get them into the playoff. The Avs have a tough schedule remaining being 5 points down with 3 to play for both teams. The Avs would win the tiebreaker if they do in fact tie, but have to go through vancouver, nashville and then calgary at home. While calgary has San Jose, Edmonton, and Colorado to finish out it's year. I have a ton of faith in a hot San Jose, but Edmonton is just plain awful and I have to pray for a miracle there. This is all on top of the Avs having to win in three tough places as well. So the 12 year streak is on the line and it's going to be real tough. How cool would it be to get in though on this type hot streak!? I can only keep hoping and watching. It pains me to think of all the points Q threw away all year using Theodore!! Aaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!

Oh and Budaj hasn't been the starter for the whole year and still has 30 wins and counting this year. It simply isn't the same for Brodeur and Luongo to break that record, no way.

Somehow the Avs continue to stay alive with now only two games left, down 3 points, with the last game of the year at home against the flames! It just seems meant to come down to this game. It's actually a makeup game from one of the huge snowstorms that hit Denver and how cool would it be to decide the season in the last game of the year!

Last night, the Avs beat Vancouver 3-1 and the Sharks took out the flames 4-3 in regulation. Next up for the Avs are the preds. On the other side, the Avs have to pull for a really struggling Edmonton Oiler team to pull off a major upset against their biggest rival, the flames. I can only hope these kids, Rolo, Hemskey and the rest of the Oilers turn it up and end the season with a regulation win, or even a win in OT for that matter. That coupled with an Avs win against nashville would mean a huge game to end the season in Colorado. I'm amazed the Avs played this well to get back in the hunt. Being that Budaj is now at 31 wins and 13-0-2 in his last 16 I'd love to see the kid for the first time in the playoffs behind one hell of a hot team.

You are right, there are a lot of bandwagon jumpers (the ESPN msgbrd is a downright embarrasment). But some of us homers were there when Clint bled all over the ice, when Leroux ended Patty's career, when Rayzor scored his first goal on his first NHL shift.

Some of us roared when Peca lined some schmuck up at center ice and knocked him through next week, screamed when Rayzor slipped his arm out of his sweater to have one more go at Domi, and jumped out of there seats when Plante tucked one away in the early hours of the morning.

And a couple of us, maybe, can still remember sitting drowsily on our father's laps watching out of one half closed eye Danny, Rick, Gilbert and Rene flying down the ice, Jimmy knocking a bat out through the fog, Don and Bob keeping the nets and wondering why Foligno's nose looked like that.

lundqvist is an awesome goalie, only one of the few goalies like in the nhl. he has some serious work to do to accomplish what marty has in his career.

another point, goalies win the game in a shootout out. they should get more credit for earning a win in this fashion, in my personal opinion.

Whatever man. I've always been a diehard fan. I'm just not going to talk about them all the time because I don't want to be "that guy"

Just from posting here, I can tell that Week and narc are die hards for this lousy team. Not everyday the Sabes take the presidents cup. People who say that are prob. a pissed Ranger fan

seriously, going through the days when the sabres were at the bottom of the league and in bankruptcy sucked more than anything. finally having a top team in the league is fucking awesome. this city is going nuts for the sabres.

I was at the game today. A lot (probably 1/3 or more) of Sabres fans and a lot of disaffected Caps fans.
Huge amount of drunk obnoxious UB students. I was a little embarrassed (and to be honest, entertained, when a Homo chant) went up.
Caps fans were absolutley horrified. This one lady next to me was so annoyed. She was like "Don't they know there's kids here" which was pretty funny. If you're really scared of explaining things to your kids then you shouldn't take them to sporting events anyway.
So it was a little tense. I almost saw a fight break out.
On an interesting sidenote, I had no idea they gave that goal to Connolly until I was talking to someone on the metro afterwards because I didn't hear the goal announcement. I had kind of assumed it was Paille who tipped it in.

And if the Devils lose early I will jump on the Saber band wagon if welcomed. I use to play with/against Drury and I follow him everywhere. Its also so great for this sport for Buffalo to get some attention.

my favorite part was the boos you could hear when ovechkin got the puck. the sabres fans were loud at the game.

i would have liked see the islanders pick up the 8th spot only to get throttled by the sabres in the first round. but who knows, there is still an entire period to play...

Rangers clinch the 6th spot, with the Tampa Shootout loss. This time last month, they did not look playoff bound, let alone 6th spot... 8-2-1 in the last 11 ames is how you finish a year.
