Ok, I just checked the Directv Wed program guide. They have the game at 9:00, ESPN stinks.
Fuck it. I may still take the day off for your birthday anyway.

Lets all take off for the birthday celebration!
Well it was a good season, a good series and Buffalo is a great team. If we had to go out, I'm glad it was to the the overall winner of the regular season this year. The game was heartbreaking at best for Rangers fans, but at least I got to see the boys give the salute one last time.
Congrats week, I'll be pullin' for Buffalo the rest of their run. You're right about Avery. He seemed to have lost some of his magic this series. Dunno what that was aboot.

Just took a nap so I can stay up for this game tonight. I have to pull for the Wings. An original six and I have always resented the Sharks
I'm all showered and I've got my jammies on.
I've also got that nervous knot in my stomach.
I wish the game started at 8.

I saw Mitch Albom on The Sports Reporters this Sunday. He was pleading with the NHL to stop making the Wings, who are am est team, play these late games. The fans can't make the entire game and they are still one of the bigger draws. Its insane that they play this late.

they are playing 6 o clock in san jose. how much earlier can you make a weekday game for fans to get to?

I meant more like move the Wings to the Eastern Conf. Its insane that a team that is in the EST plays most of their playoff games at 10:00 home or away
Its insane that they play this late.
Tell me about it!
At least this one started at 9 and not 10.
So far so good by the way.
Maybe Samuelsson is ready to play on the power play. The only right handed shot we have out there is Lang and he's about as useless as they come.
Speaking of useless, I wish Bertuzzi would at least fight.

As much as I hate the wings I hope they win it all. F hockey thank god for baseball. Maybe next year
The Wings played an awesome game, but I've never seen a home team come out flatter than the Sharks, especially with their backs up against the wall.
Now I don't fear Anaheim at all.
I'm still trying to figure out the Eastern Conference Final though.

We got room on the Caps bandwagon for ya Clint...
And my predictions
Anaheim in 6
Ottawa in 7
I was just thinking...if it winds up being Detroit/Buffalo in the final the two number 1 seeds would be facing each other.
When was the last time that happened?
And I'm ignoring your last post Ry.

I have NO Idea how you could have picked the Sharks to finish above what was the best team in the West.
Yes I know the Sharks have a good solid team but the Wings had a better all around team.
And sorry to burst your bubble my friend but Anaheim is going to represent the West this year and win their 1st Cup.

I just think Anaheim is too big and powerful...theyre even bigger than SJ...and Giguere/Bryzgalov is much better than Nabokov/Toskala
And everyone that has been around Ottawa swears that this team is different...and I believe it....your father's Ottawa team would NOT have put away Jersey in 5, and would have crumbled against Pittsburgh

I proved myself as a jinx. I go to flip on the game and as soon as it appeared, Wings scored the first goal. I didn't even bother watching the rest of it.
Congrats to you Gvac and Friday, as I said in a post before:
Good luck with the Ducks.

The Sharks absolutely MANHANDLED the Wings in the two games we played there this year. They beat us once in Detroit too, going 3-1 against us this year. They also finished the regular season with more wins than the Red Wings. I really thought they had our number. Obviously I'm glad I was wrong, but you can see why I picked the way I did.
I know Anaheim is fast and tough, maybe even more so than San Jose, and that Giguere is playing lights out in goal, but after what I saw this past series, I think we're gonna take them too.

TSN - Comparisons between champions of the past and today's Sabres are vastly unfair, but Buffalo has emerged as one of the NHL's top franchises in the last two seasons. Counting playoffs, the Sabres have won an NHL-leading 124 games in two years and are coming off a President's Trophy-winning season and a league-leading 308 goals.

I'm just positively giddy as a pedophile at a playground that in 24 hours there's going to be some fucking awesome hockey going on. It makes me so happy. To paraphrase Fez as the nature boy, OTTAWA Vs. BUFFALO....THE ANGER, THE PASSION, WOOOOOOOOO! It just doesn't get any better than playoff hockey.
And GVac...the Red Wings lost to the Sabres this year....and the Bruins (i.e. your nemesis Fallon). And my boy Todd Marchant (who went to my HS) is going to fuck up your crew of skating skeletons that are the Red Wings.

Throw the regular season out the window (especially one meeting) when playoffs roll around.

1. Comprehensive sentences and Paragraph Indentation. Please research both.
2. Fallon and Gvac are quite gay together lately, pay attention.
3. Those Skeletons just dominated the last two games of the Sharks series. Undeniably tight teamwork. Suck on that for a wee bit.
No doubt we have our work cut out beginning on Friday.
I have faith in my boys to pull it out from deep within.

1. I'll research those if you research random capitalization.
2. I'm glad they're both happy.
3. The Red Wings also lost another very good defenseman for the rest of the playoffs. Also, Hasek is old and a quitter. Also, Nabokov happened to play like shit.
4. In addition, I have better Red Wing connections than you do. I don't want to be the kind of guy who brags about that shit on the internet though publicly so PM me and I'll divulge if you really care.

You got a hell of a team there, mdr55.
I love my team, but this is the second year in a row that the sabres have been exposed as a bunch of tu-tu wearing figure skaters. As soon as a team lays a finger on them, they swoon complaining of the pain in their man-ginas.
This team needs to make some changes- sacrifice a bit of talent and give up some of the points in the first season for some grit in the post season. Unfortunately, this is 2 separate and distinct games. During the season, the refs called everything tight, allowing the Sabres to use their speed and skill. During the playoffs, everything tightens up, the play is much more physical and the refs let the boys play- clearly, for the second year in a row, the Sabres are not built for this.
Briere has got to go. Sorry, but he almost got knocked into the parking lot last night by a half assed hip check in the corner.
If Kalinan pulls a Sabres sweater over his head ever again- Ruff should be run out of town. I have no idea what the F Ruff was thinking letting him play in game 3 after the horrific performances he turned in in games 1 and 2, other than giving him one last shot to turn it around. Well, Ruff, he sh*t the bed again. He sh*t the bed, the pillows, the walls and the floor all around. Sit him and ship him out in the post season.
Spacek- $10M over three years only to go O-fer in the entire playoffs. Buh-Bye.
Kotalik- This guy is a monster who plays like a kitten. I don't know what needs to be done to get him to play up to his size, but if he cant bring the body, send him packing and get someone who can.
Do anything you can to sign Zubrus. He was the best man on the ice for the entire playoffs.
One last ditch effort:
Call up Paille, Stafford and Paetch sit Briere, Kalinan and Kotalik and see what the kids can do for Game 4.
Finally, clearly all of the last minute heroics we saw this year, while fun to watch, have been a detriment to the team in the long run. They quite obviously feel like they can mail in 50 minutes of hockey and steal a win by turning it up in the last seconds. This may work against chumps like the Rangers and Islanders, but against a good team, this mentality leads to, well, 0-3.

It's amazing to hear this from the other team, that grit season vs. playoffs talk is exactly what we heard for the last 5 years. 3 losses to Buffalo, 4 to Toronto. All because of blocked shots and being out hit.
I dunno about gettin rid of your stars, ie briere. Look at Alfredson, last year everybody had enough of his lack of playoff leadership. Wanted him traded. Then all of a sudden he's the most clutch player in the playoffs.
It's amazing to watch such a great team as Buffalo just giving up in front of your eyes, totally intimidated. That's exactly where we were roles-reversed last year. Ottawa couldn't win one goal games, or overtime games. Now all of a sudden it's the only way we know to play. Buffalo hasn't played since the 1st period of game 2.
At least be thankful you have miller, last night he was my first star, he might as well as taken off and tried to score himself, he was solo. Best goalie we faced so far.

Both Briere and Drury are unrestricted free agents at the end of this year. We will not be able to keep both. I prefer to keep Drury in light of the pounding Briere has taken this series. Take the $5M we paid Briere this year and buy a couple of $2.5M bangers with soft hands.
You can work on leadership, but Briere ain't gonna grow eight inches in the off-season.

I agree even though he's a Toronto fan he's objective and you love to hear him praise the grit on your team plus he's bloody entertaining to listen to. Everybody in in the NHL anywhere from Arizona to Columbus where they don't get cbc always has to find out if they got mentioned by Cherry every Saturday night. He's got a passion for hockey the way the fans want to see it. Fighting, hitting, fighting.
He'd be just as popular as Terry Bradshaw, maybe more, if the US actually cared about hockey. He'd defiantly pull in Madden money.
He rocks ol 70's high collar shirts with a different corduroy jacket every night. Would be considered hacky if he wasn't such a respected quick-witted roughneck.
I'd even go as far as to say if you had to pick a person who would be most characteristically Canadian I'd have to go with Don.

I can't tell you how happy I am that we pasted those dirty bastards right in their own building. The fact that Holmstrom was able to return and assist on the fifth goal made it even better.
Niedermeyer should be suspended for the rest of the playoffs for that filthy hit, and now I've lost all respect for Anaheim.

I had a late rehearsal and missed most of this game but imagine my GLEE to get in the car and hear 4-0 wings! So happy at the outcome... and the fact that the wings just keep bringing it with velocity!
And I concur with Gvac... I have yet to see the Holmstrom replay but from what I am hearing that was a dirty, dirty hit and that is just uncalled for at this level. Phucker.

Odd that Pronger gets a suspension and not Niedermeyer.

jinx time is over, that's negative, time for positive energy,..for starters, Sat is a win at home.
The only thing I'm rooting for in the Ottawa/Buffalo series is a knockdown, drag out 7 game series that leaves the surviving team battered, bruised, and exhausted.

Man did you luck out with the NHL nailing the wrong guy.

what difference will it make when they're playing the Ducks?

I still can't figure that one out. Niedermeyer got a 5 minute major and a game misconduct; Pronger received no penalty on the play, and yet he gets suspended.
It was a vicious hit and I'm glad somebody got suspended, but I don't think 1 game is enough.

Very funny.
Now I want to play Ottawa to show you how to beat them more than once in a 5 game span.

I agree, but no chance are they losing one of the NHL's best players for more than 1 playoff game. Good ol' Gary needs to market this damn thing some how.
You hit the nail on the head, Boss.
It's a pretty sad state of affairs when Chris Pronger is one of the "big names" in the NHL, though.
The thing this league needs more than anything is marketable superstars, like it had with Gretzky and Lemieux back in the day.
I guess Sid the Kid Crosby is going to be the new face of the NHL, but after him who is there?

I was just talking about this the other day with one of my friends. If the Rangers do it right, they could market Avery. He has the actress girlfriend, is very good, and has the looks to plaster on tv. Bettman just sucks at this aspect though

the rest of the young penguins? why not try and push the crap out of that whole franchise? i think they have the talent to be very good in the comming years.
I think the Penguins are definitely going to win a Cup or two in the coming years, Brett, but you can't market an entire team (much less one from Pittsburgh) to the casual American hockey fan.
Gretzky and Lemieux were light years ahead of what anybody had ever seen and I know their kind probably won't come around again in our lifetimes. It was like having 2 Michael Jordans in the NBA.
Crosby isn't as good as either of them, but he's a great talent, young, and marketable. I'm sure Mudo will jump in and say "what about Ovechkin?!" but he's not all that marketable.
Young, charismatic, and extremely talented ambassadors of the game are the only thing that's going to grow the NHL in the States.
Boss, I think Avery could be sold to the NYC area, but he's not the type of player that catches the imagination of the average sports fan.
It would be wonderful for the sport if the next "Great One" happened to play in a major market like New York, though. Hell, if the Black Hawks can ever be a halfway decent team again I think that would help.

yea i totally agree that pitt isnt the most marketable place in America, but at this point what does the NHL have to lose? Malkin could be the new Jagr to Crosby's Lemieux. they dont play on the same line, but you get the comparison
