The official trailer will be released tomorrow at 6 pm EST. It will also be shown on the FX Network. Best part is Rockstar is saying it won't be some lame teaser trailer either.

Looks like you and I are the only ones then. I thought there would be much more excitement over one of the most anticipated games due out this year.
It's set in Liberty City, a Liberty City that looks almost EXACTLY like New York. Main character is a guy with a Russian accent. That's all the trailer reveals. The game looks amazing.
I was blown away by the visuals. I hope there is a lot of terrain to cover and a lot of hot hookers to kill in that game.

OK, that was pretty cool. Does it take place in present times or the late 90's? From the miata and the Grand Am that was featured, it wasn't sure.

i thought the blue car was the new model Mercedes
and i think people would be pissed if it was older because the towers would be in it.(especially with the flying ability)
im saying 2007

What the hell did I just watch? That was the BIG trailer we've all been waiting for? There wasn't a single bit on gameplay in this thing.
Rockstar themselves said this would not be some brief teaser trailer. Well, that's all this was. 1 minute of cutscreens to me is a teaser trailer. I know a lot of people were expecting way more than this. Here is the actual article saying so.
Since the countdown to the trailer has begun, there has been much debate and worrying around the internets as to whether it would just be a brief teaser containing only a few glances of the game. According to this article posted at GamesRadar.com yesterday, it will be anything but.
"The official trailer for Grand Theft Auto IV is only a few days away as of this writing, and publisher Rockstar has promised that it won't just be some infuriatingly quick teaser. Instead, it'll offer up the first substantial look into what the game is all about, and internet speculation over what that might be has kicked the rumor mill into high gear."
Don't get me wrong, the graphics were phenominal, but come on. I can't believe reading in other forums that people think this was great considering the fact we were told this would be much more than what they showed.

That was sweet...
GTA IV has been delayed until next year. (http://ir.take2games.com/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=258238)
This is some serious bad news for Rockstar.

Well, that certainly sucks! This was the one game I specifically wanted the PS3 for before the end of this year. There was nothing else I was dying to play on a next-gen system.
How can they, at a mere 2 months before launch, realize that it's not near completion? Shouldn't they just be putting the final touches on at this point?

Meh. I don't buy too many full priced games or rush to get them when they launch, but I was going to preorder this one.

You are going to buy a PS3 based on one game, wow you really are a bit of a sucker on that one. You do know that the PS3 version is the reason for the delay and that R* did not want to release the 360 version only to release the PS3 version down the line.
Also the 360 version will have exclusive download content that will be released over the next few years including extra missions and a possible new island.
Not to mention the lineup of PS3 games is shaky at best compared to the plethora of games coming out on the 360 over the next 4 months.
PS3 = really expensive blu-ray player

Correction, the most affordable blu-ray player. Most blu-ray players are about $1000

btw - does anyone think that blueray will win out over HDD DVD?

I've gotten to the point where I think both are overrated and want to wait for the technology after them. But we should have this discussion in a HDDVD vs Bluray thread.
btw - does anyone think that blueray will win out over HDD DVD?
For the year Blu-Ray movies are outselling HD-DVD movies 2 to 1. Last week they outsold HD-DVD movies 3 to 1. Blu-Ray is that favorite at the moment.

I saw the same article on digg saying that the game delay was because of the PS3 programming.
I guess this is what you guys are talking about. (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/03/playstation-3-responsible-for-gta-iv-delay-surmises-pachter/)
But that's just an analyst guessing at the reasons why it was delayed. He even admits that.

No, I didn't buy the PS3 for one game. I bought it because I wanted the system now because this game was supposed to be coming out soon. There will be tons of games down the line that I will want, but this one alone was a major factor in wanting the system now.
As for the reason behind the delay, I'm actually hearing it's because of the 360 and the fact that they can't fit all the content on their disks and they don't want to put it on 2 disks, whereas the PS3's bluray disks can fit it fine.

One of the best-selling XBox accessories is the HD-DVD player. Although it would suck to sell a game in need of an extra part, but I don't buy the two-disk explanation.
They wouldn't lose millions and millions of dollars if they had to inconvience people for two disks. One of the best selling games ever is Gran Turesmo, that's on 2 discs.

I don't buy the two-disk explanation.
Why not? The HD-DVD's do not have as much space as the Blu-ray disks.
This is the breakdown.
15 GB vs. 25 GB for single layer, 30 GB vs. 50 GB for dual layer
It's definitely plausible that they can't fit it, thus would need a second disk, which has been reported that they don't want to do.
As for Gran Turismo, I can't comment if you are referring to the original, but GT4 was only 1 disk.

Again, I absolutely cannot see them losing HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars for this because of a small inconveince like two discs. The game has been awaited for YEARS. So they are going to degrade the quality of the game because it can't fit on two discs? People would rather have a high quality, complex game on two discs than some half-assed version on one disc. It's not like disc capacity is going to magically expand in six months.

Oh, I agree. I wouldn't care if it were on numerous disks either. I'm just saying what I heard might be a factor in this delay.
Personally, I'd believe the disk issue over the "it's harder to program for the PS3" issue. I mean, it's the same damn game. How much different (besides different format disks) is it in regards to programming? It's not like you have two different teams writing two completely different code for both versions. If they were, then we would see much larger differences in quality and graphics if that were the case and for the most part both versions usually are pretty much alike.

Seriously there is not any consideration to making the game on two discs especially considering this is a free roaming game they would not have people changing discs if they are planning on making the game this way. In addition Oblivion which is a huge game only took up 3 GB of space so my guess would be no two discs.
Also this game began its development on teh XBOX360 and are attempting to port the game onto the PS3 the only problem is that the cell processors for PS3 are very hard to program for because Sony does not want to share info on the technology for fear of those companies stealing their technology. And it has been widely reported that the PS3 is very difficult to program for and their development kits are tough to work with as well
I think the most likely situation is that the game is just buggy and they want to fix that, not to mention that if they release next year in March it will help on monetary projections for the next fiscal year.
Regardless the DLC that will be exclusive for the 360 which will make that version better in my opinion.

Grand Theft Auto 4 Delayed
Grand Theft Auto 4, the latest installment of Take Two Interactive's extremely popular video game series, will be delayed until after Christmas of this year. What do you think?

Actually, all 3 playstations have been notoriously difficult to program for.

KO, you may want to read the whole thing. He was quoting the Onion. The point wasn't the delay, it was the punchline.
Actually, all 3 playstations have been notoriously difficult to program for.
PS2 and PS3 were very complex but I thought that the PSOne was actually easy to develop and that's what helped Sony get so much industry support so quick. I know that it was at least easier to develop for than the ridiculously hard to develop for Saturn.
