you're in luck spadanko ... sort of im a plumber but i no longer live up in nyc but i still could help

is the leaky pipe in question copper or cpvc ??? cpvc would be a whitish yellow plastic

copper is more expensive then cpvc and i know that the last time i lived in NYC area (late 2004) plumbers were still using copper pipe for the water lines

how much of the ceiling and sheetrock collapsed ??

pm me if you have any other questions

well.. it was a brass pipe. seems like the guy is going to put in copper. The ceiling and sheet rock will be covered in the home owners. the guy was here for about 6 hours, and is coming back on thursday. He tried cutting the pipe, and sodering a fitting on there, but it didn;t work. will keep you up to date, but thanks for the heads up

My only advice is from a bumper sticker I saw that read

Plumbing is NOT a hobby. Hire a professional.

Be careful with filing a homeowner's claim on a minor repair. You always hear these stories of people losing their coverage after a few claims.

Don't sweat it man -- you can get some chick down on Hunts Point to clean your pipes out for like $5.

I wish I had gone into plumbing or electrical work then I coulda been a diva too instead of swinging a hammer.
