I think it is called system restore. Go back to a date before the screw up, but these Spy things are well, spy things. The way I understand it is they hang dormant for awhile then go birdshit on ya.

What are the pop-ups saying? Are they ads or system messages? I have Spybot and it pops up information about my registry and such to let me know. Which security programs do you have?
Can you find Spylock if you go to the add/remove programs function?

There is a program called Multi_AV that works well, but my link doesn't work any longer. It runs best in safe mode and allows you to run scans from Sophos, Trend Micro, McAfee, and Kaspersky. It has helped me out a lot in the past.
I'll keep looking for it...
EDIT: Also - Avast! Antivirus is really good. It is free for home users and has a pre-boot scan that can do wonders. That one can be found here (http://www.avast.com/eng/programs.html).

I'll ask my son when he gets home, he's the computer genius of the family.
I have gotten rid of similar programs by searching for downloads and programs within the general time frame that the initial problem started and then deleting them.

ive had success with running webroots spysweeper. it has a free 30 day trial. I also run uruninstaller which completely cleans the registry for that extra pesky spyware software that just wont go away. g'luck

Please go to badware.org. Post on one of the forums and one of the guys over there will tell you exactly how to remove it. They are very friendly and helpful over there and walk you thru step by step. It may take a day or so for one of the admins to handle it, but an admin will handle it.

Once you get bombarded with certain persistent spyware infestations. Your best solution is to reinstall Windows and apply all the security updates, service packs and install several anti spyware software and learn from where you might had gotten this spyware and prevent that from happening again.
Btw also Don't use Internet Explorer.....use an alternative web browser like Firefox or Opera.
IE has many security holes and it is the main cause of most spyware problems.
I can relate your problem, I'm considering getting a Mac... soon.
