Swingers, Lost Highway, Tank Girl.
It should be a distinction between soundtracks that are a collection of existing songs, a la Pulp Fiction and those that were made for the soundtrack like The Crow and Lost Highway.
I personally like a soundtrack for a movie i've never seen--SFW. Also the Alice in Chains song on the Last Action Hero soundtrack was one of the best.

My favourite score comes un at number 37. Ennio Morricones Once Upon A Time In America. The music totally sets the scene for the movie. From Deborah's theme to the pan pipe thing that plays throughout the movie, it's all great and totally adds to the emotion of the whole film. Infact I can't imagane Once upon a time... without Morricone's score. It's a different movie

The instrumental version of Yesterday is a killer too.

Good point Mojopin! "The Good, Bad, and Ugly" by Morricone may qualify as a score. So I'm gonna add to the list "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" produced by T Bone Burnett.

Should be obvious from my screen name, but...

if for no other reason than it has songs by Meredith Monk, Captain Beefheart, and Kenny Rogers (well, his first band) on it. And how many other records have all three of those artists?
Lebowksi is VERY underrated...a lot of cool songs on that.
But how Singles didn't make that list is beyong me. That thing was a staple of grunge. Pearl Jam, Pumpkins, Alice N Chains, Mother Love Bone, Mudhoney and so on...great great soundtrack.

The soundtrack to "Everthing is Illuminated" is phenomenal. Half score/half soundtrack actually...for a recent film, I suspect it will stand the test of time.

Friday actually has two great soundtracks...the main one is the hip-hop one, and then the second is a bunch of soul classics. Awesome, awesome combo.

Goodfellas is such an obvious choice. I'm not talking about the soundtrack they sold in stores, but the actual full listing of the songs Scorsese put in the movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099685/soundtrack). They're all great and he uses them perfectly. Everyone always talks about "Layla" and "Gimme Shelter" and how well they set the mood, but even something like The Ronettes' version of "Frosty the Snow Man" (which is a great version in its own right) is used well. In fact, four songs are connected to Phil Spector in some way: Frosty, "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)", "Then He Kissed Me", and "He's Sure the Boy I Love".
Trainspotting is also terrific. Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, New Order, Elastica and that awesome cover of "Atomic" by Sleeper.
