<p>I have the Roady2 and the XM2GO Pioneer Airware, both work very well.</p><p>Also <a href="http://www.myradiostore.us/">http://www.myradiostore.us/</a> is an excellent place to get parts, and accessories as well as radios for XM. I've ordered several items from them and they were very good at shipping promptly and communicating very good. </p>

xm411.com is an excellent messageboard, especially if you have questions or problems with the service or equipment.

<p>I have the Roady 2 in my car and have had absolutley no problems. The FM Modulator is not that great, but I'm going to try and get a professional install soon so it will be wired into my stereo.</p><p>It was very easy to hook up, I did it myself (ran the antenna wire under my drivers seat under the floor mat, along the side of the door, then through my backseat and out through the trunk).</p><p>The Roady 2 is very basic... Jeff has the SkyFi and I like that one better, its easier to scan a lot of different channels to see what's on.</p>

Now I found my whole setup on eBay through 2 different people. There is
a Panasonic Head Unit that is XM Ready and then the Terk Universal
Tuner and Panasonic XM Adapter all for around $180. Can I trusat the
shelps on eBay that are selling this stuff. So now having XM through my
Head Unit in the car I can just get the Sirius Starmate as a Portable
Side Item. Kind of like Onion Rings. I hope to touch base with Tenbats
or Reef sometime soon cause I really trust both of your opinions on the
Sat Radio.<br />

Quick History:
XMfan.com and XM411.com used to be the same site at xmfan.com until Feb of 04.
Ryan (owned xmfan) and Ziggy (owned/operated xmfanstore.com at the time) got into a disagreement leading to the split of the two and creation of xm411.com and myradiostore.com.
Both sites are great and will give you both excellent XM information. Myradiostore.com is located in manhatten so if you live in the tri state area and order from them (I have a least 4 or 5 times), you'll get your order VERY Fast.
I haven't ordered from the new xmfanstore.com but haven't heard any negatives about it.
Been w/XM since Oct of 03 and haven't touched FM since.
Got a Skyfi2 cause it has a pause feature which works great at work. Kind of like a tivo, you can pause the live feed up to 30 minutes, then listen on a delay. Then when (for example listening to O and A) a commercial break comes up, you can skip past commercials. Very cool.
The Xm2Go series of units (Dephi's Myfi, and Pioneer and Tao have one as well...all the same units w/same software, just different look) are all great and record up to 5 hours of music (a bit more of talk due to higher compression used on the sats) but don't have the pause feature of the skyfi2.
My recommendations: either the skyfi2 or myfi.

<br />All the XM2GO units
have the same "guts." The only thing that is different is the form
factor. Some claim to get better reception from the pioneer airware,
but I haven't seen any definitive testing. If you are in NY or DC, you
will get great reception because you have the luxury of repeaters. If
you're not, the reception can be a little spotty. The headphones with
built-in antenna (sold seperately) help with that problem.<br />

<p>My question: among the XM2Go units, is there a particular model that is recommended over others?</p><p>Mikey, I can tell you from my experience with my Airware that I've had no problem at all with the XM transmitter. I know that Amy has the MyFi and has had no problems either. My only issue is when using the radio with the built in antenna that it isn't very clear at times. Aside from that though, I'm very happy with it.</p>

If all you wanna do is listen to R&F for the cheapest way possible,
go with the Roady2. They're going for around $40 now.. It's most basic,
easy to use receiver, also very small. and there are home kits, and car
kits available, so it's very versatile. Doesn't have as many features
as the SkyFi or walkmens though.<br />

<p>One tip I can suggest with the FM modulator is if you have a retractable antenna, push it in and leave it there.</p><p>You
won't miss terrestrial radio. I'm not just saying that - you
won't use it. WIth the antenna down pretty much most FM
broadcasts will be degraded to the point where your FM modulator will
be overpowering compared to the distant broadcasts and you shouldn't
have any quality issues. Works well enough for me. </p>

<br />while they all have the same interiors (smae recording time, same features etc) it is the exterior that changes<p> </p><p>the mifi is the standard</p><p>the tao is a more durable version of the mifi - much harder casing...</p><p>the
best out right now is probably the pioneer - it is the least sexy of
the bunch so it does not get the mention on the air... but it has a
MUCH better built in antenna than the mifi - you willind that with the
mifi you will need to use the additional lipstick antenna if you are
not in an area with a terrestrial repeater - but the pioneer's built in
antenna will be fine by its self - mind you i use the mifi w/o the
antenna in NYC all the time and i am fine the problem comes when i am
out in jersey and long island and there are trees and buildings around
and no repeaters... then i need the lipstick antenna</p><p><img width="180" height="180" border="0" src="http://store1.yimg.com/I/yhst-54608124176281_1857_18072753" /> here is a pic of the antenna... it comes with the mifi - you can also buy antenna headphones i heard those work great<br />

<p>Hi guys,</p><p>I picked up a SkyFi2 on Ebay for $60 new a couple
weeks back. I then shelled out another $80 for a car kit and home kit.
So far, I'd probably recommend picking up a Roady2 as there isnt really
much more offered in the SkyFi models. The roady2 comes with the
receiver and car kit for $50. Expect to be $120 for the same setup but
with the SkyFi2. The display is a little nicer in the SkyFi2 and it has
30 minutes of memory (its stored in RAM so it gets erased when you
power down the unit). But Im not sure if thats worth 2.5x the price.<br />
</p><p>I was happy with the ease of intallation for the unit.
Reception is good although there are drop outs at time on my 10 minute
ride to work. Funny thing is its not necessarily in the most wooded
areas of my drive where tree cover would be a problem. In general the
drop outs are very very sparse.<br />
</p><p>One thing I noticed for sure is the quality of the audio.
Switching from XM to regular FM and back again realy highlights the
improvement.</p><p> My only other complain is that the alternative
rock stations tend to go a little too deep. Otherwise gotta love 47 and
72. </p><p> </p><p>ONE
MORE THING: Like the Cable or Sat TV company XM charges PER recevier.
Its 12.99 a month for 1 receiver but its 6.99 for each additional
receiver. If you have a friend you both can save some money if you go
under 1 account :). </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>

<p>I wouldnt recommend this for everyone, but since i had a stock radio in my new car and had hoped to upgrade, i didnt mind spending the cash.</p><p>After hearing the YMB show, I went to Best Buy on Saturday and purchased components for my mobile audio system.</p><p>I paid $350 for an alpine 9835 head unit.</p><p>I paid $100 for an ipod adapter (to play/display the ipod info right through the head unit).</p><p>I paid $50 for the XM box and another $50 for the "smart" adapter to connect it to the alpine unit.</p><p>They hit me up for $50 for the XM install, and another $50 for the ipod install. The head unit install was free.</p><p>Add in taxes & miscellaneous materials, and the whole upgrade from a stock system to a Ron & Fez-ready, XM powered, IPod enabled super-stereo with terrestrial radio and cd cost me in the neighborhood of $700.</p><p>Ugh.</p><p>I know most people are smarter than me and wont go this ridiculous route, but im extremely satisfied so far with what ive purchased.</p><p>Ryan</p>

I never walked around with normal radio attached to me, so im not worried about when im out. im assuming the roady 2 is probably best for that, whats it run with home and car kits? and is it easily interchangable?<br /><p><br />I would go with the Skyfi2. I take it from the car to the home all the time. I love the pause feature and you also have the ability to move back 30 minutes in to stuff you listened to previously. Getting out of the car to pump some gas? Press pause and start it backup when you get back in. I am not sure about the roady2 but with the skyfi2 you can have sports scores of the teams of your choice scrolling at the bottom aswell. The only thing i do not like about the replay feature is that it will only go back to the last time the display changed. So if R&F take a break, goto XM spots, start back up again and talk for 20 minutes, you cannot just go back 1 or 2 minutes, you have to go back the whole 20 minutes. And im almost positive that its the same way with the MyFi.</p>

<p> </p><p><a href="http://www.pricescan.com/">http://www.pricescan.com</a> - this free site searches online vendors for the best prices on electronics.</p><p>Using Pricescan, I found a vendor selling MyFi's for 200 dollars. I made my purchase, and was extremely happy with the results. Currently, Pricescan is listing Myfis for around 190 bucks.</p><p>I should add in a warning - a lot of these vendors are located in NYC, so if you live in New York and buy from them, you'll have to pay sales tax too. I would investigate where they are located so you don't get an extra 16 bucks tacked on your order.</p><p>I recommend myfis. Roady 2s are good starter units, but as Missy said, it's a lot easier to scan through the channels and find what you're looking for outside of 202 with the Skyfi2 or MyFi units.</p><p>If your car stereo has a front input jack (as a lot of them have now due to Ipod popularity) you can use the same thing to plug your XM radio into and not use the FM Modulator.</p><p>XM also has a friends and family deal, but in respect to XM and Ron and Fez, you're going to have to search for those deals yourself.</p>

I like the SkyFi myself. Easy to read and set up. The
roady, however, can't be beat for the price. And depending on how
you have things set up at home, you can listen to XM for FREE at home

you can pretty much get, with shipping, a roady 2 + car + home kit for
about 80 bucks on ebay or 41 + 40 + shipping (which may be cheap or

<p>My experience with the Delphi MyFi is similar to what BAM and Angrymissy have described in their posts: at home - great; in the car- almost great; and walking around intermittently great. At home I haven't had any problems because (luckily) my stereo set up is near a south-facing window and I can just prop up the antenna on the sill. (I live & work in Westchester.) In the car, the FM modulator/transmitter is sometimes a problem because there aren't any completely "clean" frequencies at either tail end of the dial (damn those college radio geeks <img src="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/wink.gif" border="0" />) so sometimes I'll need to change the FM frequency on the unit and the car depending on where I am. Also, if surrounded by high trees or buildings the signal will drop for a second or two. </p><p>Using the MyFi as a true portable is more hit or miss. Like BAM indicated the internal antenna is not so great and, in Westchester, even using the external piece is no guarantee of a good signal. In open spaces (especially facing South) like Central Park and in midtown (with all the repeaters presumably) I haven't had a problem. Downtown, I find the reception to be more spotty.</p><p>The unit itself however is great: easy to hold and the sound quality of the recorded stuff is just as good as an iPod.</p>

Man, this is getting expensive. 13 bucks a month just for the subsrciption and then you gotta get a radio, and you're all talking about all these fancy radios and profesional install. Fuck that. It's the Roady2 if I decide to drop the cash, and it's almost a lock that I'm just getting the online feed for Ron and Fez only.

<p>Moe, for the Roady2 you really don't need a pro install unless you want it to look cosmetically better in your car. What I mean is, in my old Cherokee truck I just put the antenna on the roof, and snaked it through the hatch on the trunk area of the truck. I then moved the cord along the wall of the truck by floor carpeting and ran it into the reciever. By no means was it technical at all, just running a line through the truck. I didn't unscrew anything or do anything techie at all. I only did the pro install when I got my new truck because I wanted it to look neater inside. Otherwise you really don't need to do anything but connect the antenna to the receiver.</p>

<p>I was thinking over going for the "listen ONLINE ONLY" option. Does this make sense to anyone else? I really only care about listening to Ron and Fez...I figure if I'm using XM for 3 hours a day I don't need an expensive receiver for my home, car, or office. <p>Anyone who currently listens to the radio will like the entire XM experience. </p><p>I
suspect even some of those who only listen to R&F will truly want
the whole service, too. If you're someone like Mojo Pin who only
listend to R&F and his indie music on CDs, then the online stream
will be sufficient.</p><p>I know some of you are already sick of

the people who own the service are so adamently pushing it. It's beyond

<p>I completely understand why people love XM. That's not hard to grasp...I guess I'm just someone who never went out of my way to listen to radio. It's something that was there in the car if necessary, and I became a R&F fan because they've mostly been on in the evenings, so they've been easy to catch compared to other radio shows. But beyond them, I've never once thought, "man, I NEED to listen to the radio right now!" And with CD burners and MP3 players, there seems even less need for radio when it comes to music, if any left at all. Radio (ALL kinds) is at a point where it's always playing catch up when it comes to music...anything that's out there to listen has already been online somewhere way, WAY before it hits any kind of radio station. So what does have radio left to offer? In my opinion, nothing. It's a distraction at best...and now I'm being asked to pay for that.</p><p>Like I said, I very much understand that people don't share this view, and hey, it's great they love services like XM. The above just hopefully explains why personally I'm pretty depressed over R&F jumping off of free radio. There's nothing on "regular" radio to listen to now, and if I want to hear R&F, I have to pay to do so...and since I'd literally be paying ONLY to hear them, this sucks all around.</p><p>But that's just me, and I know I'm in a tiny minority. I just can't get myself psyched up over what's happening at all.</p>

Today, they sent me a letter saying I would not be getting my free Roady 2, because I got it on eBay. <p>I have a SkyFi2 and I just purchased a Pioneer Airwave. The
SkyFi2 is awesome for what I use it for, listening to O & A and
baseball. The FM modulator is pretty powerful. I can pick
up my radio from about 1/5th of a mile away (don't know why you would
want to do that, although it is cool on multi-car roadtrips).</p><p>I
ordered the Airwave because I'm compulsive about hearing every second
of O & A, and I'm sure I'll be that way about R & F.
Seven hours of radio a day is going to be quite a test, especially
during tax season.</p><p> </p>

<p>You get a username and a password. You can use that from any computer you wish. I have even left my XampD logged in at work while logging in at home and it does not disconnect the one from work. So basically its logged in from 2 different locations with the same username.</p><p>XampD is a free 3rd party XM online client with more features and best of all no idle timeout. The XM online client at the XM website will disconnect your connection if you are not going back to the client to tickle it within 2 hours.</p>

<p>Not sure if this was mentioned but XM gives a free 3 day trial for
their online service. It does NOT require a credit card and only
requires a valid email address. Furthermore, they dont check ip
addresses (or mac addresses) so basically if you wanted to you could
keep signing up for the trial over and over again with new email
addresses (gmail works fine for this). Obviously its not what XM
intended but it does indeed work. I tried out XM for about a week and a
half before we got our equipment.</p><p> </p><p> </p>

Depends on what you want. If you get the myfi as mentioned, it has it all.
Either of the kits has an antenna you need. The Skyfi home and car kits both have their respective antennas. The roady 2 comes with the car kit and antenna, and you can buy the roady home kit which also comes with an antenna.

<p>The thing I'm most concerned with is recording the show each day and saving it to listen to later. If you have the online subscription, can you record the show to your harddrive, or do you have to sit by your computer and listen to the show?</p><p>I checked today with the Myfi and although it can record five hours, there is no way to download those hours to your computer like an Ipod. So if you tape each day's show, you'd have to listen to the show each day and then record over it. As much as I'd want to listen to our buddies every day, there's just not enough time every day to do that. That's why I was hoping there was a way to record the shows and save the on a disc or to your computer every day. </p><p>I definitely want to invest in the XM system, but I'm not sure what to do.</p>

only thing that has been announced is that Samsung has announced a plug

MP3 playback ability will be released by the end of the year. The bad
news is that the RIAA pressuse will never allow XM to put out a
receiver that will allow you to easily move recorded XM content to your
hard drive. The good news is that there will likely be a bunch of new
XM receivers announced before the end of the year, so perhaps there
will be a receiver that will have enough storage to allow you to save
multiple shows on your device. My advice would be to wait it out and
wait until new devices are announced to decide what you are going to
do. Until then, maybe try XM online. You can listen to R&F whenever
you can while not having to make an investment in
hardware.<br />

</a><br /><font />[QUOTE]<font>SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS PARTNERS WITH XM SATELLITE RADIO TO OFFER SAMSUNG'S FIRST PORTABLE MP3 PLAYERS WITH XM SATELLITE RADIO</font>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<font>Washington D.C. ,
July 26, 2005
--</font>
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a leading global manufacturer of consumer
electronics products, today announced a strategic alliance with XM
Satellite Radio to introduce its first portable MP3 players with XM
Satellite Radio capability.
<p>The relationship entails the production of two miniature flash
memory Samsung players that will utilize XM's Connect-and-Play
technology. Both players will come with an XM Radio home accessory kit,
which allows the device to receive XM's 150 channels of commercial-free
music, plus news, talk and entertainment programming in the home.
Samsung's new players will be available in two storage capacity sizes
and are anticipated to be available by year's end.</p>
<p>The alliance will combine the capabilities of downloading digital
audio music with XM Satellite Radio's critically-acclaimed line-up of
commercial-free music and premier sports, news, and talk radio
channels. When the players are connected to a home or car docking
station, users will be able to store digital audio content available on
XM. The recorded content can be played anywhere, allowing subscribers
to enjoy XM programming in places where the XM signal may not be
available, such as the subway. In addition, the Samsung players enable
the end user to store songs from his or her personal digital music
collection, including digital music files (MP3 files and .wma files)
purchased from a variety of digital music services.</p>
<p>XM Satellite Radio allows subscribers to discover and rediscover
music. Using the Samsung XM/digital audio players, XM subscribers can
identify selected songs heard on the XM Satellite Radio service for
purchase through a music downloading service. The Samsung players also
allow users to create and manage customized playlists, combining both
personal digital music files and recorded XM programming.</p>
<p>"Samsung is known for its award-winning line of digital audio
players, and we are proud to take the next step with them in the
evolution of portable XM Satellite Radio products. Now, consumers can
enjoy XM's live programming plus music from their personal digital
music collections in one easy-to-use, elegant player," said Hugh
Panero, President and CEO of XM Satellite Radio.</p>
<p>"Samsung's innovation and quality standards are world renowned and
these products represent our latest breakthrough into satellite radio
technology," said D.J Oh, President and CEO of SEA. "XM's award-winning
programming and technology provide us with a unique opportunity to
offer products

The online version has even more compression than the hardware version. For talk its pretty good but for an audio perfectionist it wont suit their high standards of highs and lows. But by all means it is pefectly acceptable IMHO.

Total recorder is a little program that will record anything coming off

it just goes straight from your computer's sound chip to the hard

(12 bucks) for TR and haven't bothered with anything else in years.<br />

<p>I'm listening to the online feed of XM since I signed up for the 3 day free trial, and I have to say that I don't hear the "amazing" sound quality everyone talks about. There is this ANNOYING background sound the whole time. The highs get this "Fairy Dust" kind of twinkling sound you get when you rip a CD in your comp at too low a quality. Cymbal crashes really set this off. I've been listening to O&A mostly, but the music I've heard is this quality too.</p><p>Big plus so far is that Liquid Metal, the heavy station that was taken off the list for head units is only online. Big minus is this fucking sound. It's not that great, I can't lie about it. I do plan to get XM online still, but the sound isn't everything people are talking about. Also, there's about 3 music stations I will actually listen to. There's jazz, WAY TOO MUCH Country, Christian, Pop and all other manner of shitty musical choices in there. I am less than impressed.</p>

<p>Man...XM is all over The Nationals. I bet it's the same at ballparks all over the country. Banners, signs everywhere. Over the entrances, inside. Some muckety muck from there threw out the first pitch - doesn't hurt that XM is DC based, of course, for that.</p><p>During the game they kept giving out all flavors of XM receivers, including 2 months free sub. Outside, going in, they had a spin wheel thing, with the grand prize being the roady 2. I was one tick away from getting it too; pretty funny. I was thinking, "Who would I give this to? Mojo? Moe? Me?!" </p><p> </p><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v64/curtoid/surf.jpg" border="0" />

<p>Moe: THe online feed doesn't use nearly as good a codec as the sat
feed. I'm sure if they did use the same people would crack it and
that'd be bad for their business :)</p><p> I'm not a fan at all of
the sound quality online (it's tolerable) but even with my wireless FM,
the sat feed is considerably better.<br />

which player did you get? Are you happy with it? I'm surprised there's
any static at all, considering that we're talking about satellite radio
and a monthly fee.</p>
<br />There is no static in satellite radio. It's digital. It's an all or nothing proposition.<p> </p><p>The
static comes from a bad signal choice for the modulator. FM modulator
is the worst method of listening audio-quality wise. If you can find a
good clean FM signal, it's definitely usable.</p><p>You have several options if none of them is clear: </p><p>* If you have a cassette player, use the cassette adapter. </p><p>*
If you don't, see if you can get the XM antenna as close as you can to
the FM antenna. The signal is broadcast out of hte XM antenna. </p><p>*
Screwing off the antenna would help because it will make picking up
those far-a-way signals harder. Getting the nearby one (from the XM
antenna) would be easier.</p><p>* If that doesn't satisfy you, you can
hardwire it into an aux input if your stereo has one. If it doesn't you
can get this:

actually, there is an FM wire loop inside the XM antenna to help
transmit hte FM modulated signal from the built-in FM modulator in

I've heard it a lot. Without having it personally at my house or in my car and checking it out, I can't tell if any of the sound quality issues I had with the online feed are present in the actual radio unit. I DO know that Liquid Metal isn't on the list of stations, so that makes it about 2 stations I'd actually listen to longer than 2 seconds, which really makes me hesitant to get it. Plus, they play lots of stuff, but half the time it's stuff I'm not into. Metal is weird. It has lots of sub genres and I don't like all of them.</p>

<p>I'm still in that camp to an extent high fly. I do have to admit that after all my belly aching, I turned up the bit rate on the internet feed and it does sound better, but not perfect. The Liquid Metal channel usually plays something halfway decent, and I heard a few good songs on the 80's and 90's stations. I can see myself liking this service, but again, I have to see if I can swing the montly fee for a unit instead of just the online feed.</p><p>I don't know. This thing just seems like a luxury item that I'm not sure I can really justify getting. And I HATE commercial radio, don't think I'm sticking up for it. 15 minutes of commercials followed by a few "blocks" of songs? Gee, thanks douche bags. Maybe you can promise me "5 in a row" next hour too? That would be swell.</p><p>At least Ron and Fez will be happier there. The online feed is the way to go for me at 1st.</p>

Just be sure if you get a good "deal" on the roady 2 that it comes with the car kit (by defalt, it does).
I've seen the radio + car kit for 40 shipped on ebay, and I've seen the home + car + roady 2 for 80 shipped, which isn't bad.
I am liking my skyfi 2 though, it's nice to finally be able to read the display in the car (skyfi sucks) :)

No. It's just keeps getting used over and over again to the point that it's a cliche. I'm not commenting on ther merit of said argument (hell, I'm getting XM), rather I was commenting on how this same argument gets used over and over again. I wasn't serious about a moratorium, but at a certain point everyone who the argument is relevant to will have heard it many times over.<br />

In fact I've downloaded multiple versions of albums that were ripped from CDs and ones ripped from vinyl. They sound very different from one another and good in their own ways. </p><p>I'm not all for making everything that is good into something you have to pay for. <p>It's a bullshit comparison. </p><p>When cable popped up, the 11 o'clock news and Johnny Carson didn't move ONLY to cable, you just had more choices. Sure XM is giving you more commercial free music, but I don't need it. I can see how 24 hour news channels, weather, educational stuff, movies and all the rest of cable is a BIG step up from broadcast TV.</p><p>So as it stands for a lot of people, the ONLY REASON we are getting XM is for fucking RON AND FEZ. PERIOD. So in other words, we have to pay for a premium service we don't really want or need JUST to hear ONE SHOW that USED to be FREE. So it is NOTHING like growing up with 2-13 and suddenly having 50 channels.</p><p>I don't have a large collection of TV shows I can watch at my leisure, but I do have all the music I really need, and get more all the time. </p><p>Plus, like Mikeyboy said. Even if your stupid Cable TV argument made a Goddamn bit of sense, you've used it so many times it's rediculous. My big problem is that so many of you seem like I'm attaking you persoally when I say I dont want XM. Say what you will, but a lot of you do. You all get to say how great it is, then when a few people express their dislike for Ron and Fez moving there or the fact that they don't need a million stupid music stations they'll never listen to, you get all bent out of shape.</p><p>Chill.</p>

<p>It's not 1923...radio isn't THAT important</p><p>Not fair! Maybe to YOU it is not important, but ask they guy who spends a lot of time on the road. Ask the guy who travels out of town on business. Ask the guy who just likes to tinker in the garage and listen to music, news or a ballgame.</p><p>Radio is still QUITE relevent!</p><p>If I am one of those guys, and I actually am a frequent listener, I would have no problem paying for the best radio available.</p>

Plus, only the man on the road is really going to benefit from music and radio in your example. A person traveling out of town will still have access to cable TV in a hotel or other places, and a guy in his garage? Please. People have LOTS of TVs these days, they usually have an old one in the garage with a coat hanger to get local channels for ball games and shit like that.

<p>For me, XM was an option Ive put off for a while. But 2 things, which by themselves would probably not be enough for me to get xm, came together and convinced me to order my 1st roadie;</p><p>As a BOSOX fan in NYC, I dont get to see OR hear many of their games. I usually watch highlights at mlb.com every night. But XM has EVERY sox game live and I can hear it at home or at work. cool.</p><p>and of course, the reason many of us on this board have made recent xm purchases, Ron and Fez. Downloading clips of the shows got old fast (for me). Ive missed them so much and now I can hear them again...LIVE! very cool. O and A were fun, but I didnt miss them when they left as much as I missed R and F.</p><p>So now, as I understand it, with one little device, my roadie2 (coming SOMETIME today via ups), I can listen where and when I want; even at work in my "police car". Amazing. and well worth the price (50 bux for the radio, 13/month for the service). </p><p>Moe, as I state above, I might not have gotten xm for r and f alone, but for me, the combo of the sox and r and f was too good to pass up. If youre not sold on the product, thats your choice. People should stop giving you shit. </p><p>where IS that UPS guy?????</p>

OK, Chris may have just sold me with the baseball thing...I knew XM had decent MLB coverage, but you can really hear ALL of the Red Sox's games live with it? Anyone know if that's also true for the Cubs? Because if I can hear R&F AND listen to Ron Santo call each of the Cubs' 162 games a season, I'll order XM YESTERDAY!

<p>Still, every game on the radio...</p><p>Alright, I'm sold. Next paycheck, I'm shopping for an XM hookup. Honestly, I have zero patience to wade through these tech threads I've been ignoring, so if anyone wants to take mercy on my hypocritical ass and send me a PM with the best deal available, I'd appreciate it. If not, I totally understand, and I'll tell myself to "fuck off" many times over.</p>

<p>I plan on getting the online service in the middle of this week, and I'm getting a Roady2 cheap, but I may not turn the full service on right away. No one ever said we 100% weren't going one way or the other. We've just been voicing our opinions. XM is a toy that I'm not sure if I can justify getting yet. There are like 3 stations I may listen to not including 202. Is that worth 13 a month? I don't think so. But then again, I'm spending 8 a month for the online feed, and I can probably get a Roady2 dirt cheap, so I'll probably just get the full 13 a month service and get the online with that. </p><p>I'm happy for Ron and Fez, but I'm still not happy about this whole situation. I see Satellite as a great alternative, but it's not the future of anything in my opinion right now. There's so many music channels that I'll never even switch to. It's a shit deal for me. But for the record, I hate commercial radio.</p>

<br />
<br />Begin your response here...<p> </p><p>I'm sort of with you
on this Moe, and I've had XM since October. I love that I get to
hear O&A, and soon R&F, but other than that, I don't really
listen to any other channels. The thing is, if you commute more
than a few miles, it's almost worth it to not hear the dogshit on
commercial radio. As for MLB, I love it, but the channels are so
compressed that it sometimes sounds like they're underwater. Even
on 202, I have to crank the volume to hear clearly. I do like the
fact that they display the scores of the games. </p><p>The
amazing thing about XM though is that whether you listen to alot of the
music channels or not, your patience for commercial radio
disappears. I'd rather flip through the XM dial trying to find a
song I like, than flip through the annoying morning shows, commercials,
and same 10 songs on commercial radio. I can't stand being in a car
without XM now.<br />

<p>I have the Audiovox XR9 a $85.00 value which comes with a car kit.
If you also purchase a home kit antenna and a AC/DC converter
(radioshack) you can pretty much listen anywhere. I would recomend the
XR9 over the Roady2 due to the fact that the Roady2 is less durable. I
owened a Roady2 and eventually broke the power port. My friend broke
his channel scrole button off of his Roady2. I would go and spent the
40 dollers more because the strenght and wieght of the XR9 is more
durable if you are going to be moving the unit from place to place. I
listen to my unit in a hardened defensive post, designed to stop gun
fire and gernades, that blocks out most FM signals. I tune my signal in
on a cheap Radio Shack AM/FM radio and get awesome reception.</p><p> </p><p>If
you are haveing problems with the XM signal on your Roady2 go to the
menu and look for the signal feature. There you can streghten the xm
signal to your FM radio. If you own a set of Ipod portable speakers
(like a JBL type), they work awesome as a replacement for modulating to
a FM radio and jack directly to the XR9 or Roady2. A friend of
mine jacked his JBL speakers to my XR9 and the sound was emaculate.</p><p> </p><p>Some cool XM channels to check out. </p><p>squizz xl= modern hard rock, Tool, Rage, God Smack</p><p>Channel 65= Old School Rap, Public Enemy, Eric B and Rakim, Lord of the Underground</p><p>Ask 165= Coast to Coast with Goerge Noory, Art Bell at night you can listen about UFO's</p><p>ABC radio= Sean Hanity, Larry Elders </p><p>Bone Yard= Heavy Metal and Hard Rock, Metalica, Motley Crew, Poison</p><p>Channel8= 80's</p><p> </p><p>If there are any questions you can PM me at maddog62@wackbag.com </p><p> </p>

I started a new thread discussing new equipment for XM coming out this fall because this thread has turned into people complaining about having to buy XM instead of listening to free radio, what time Ron and Fez are on the air, and everything else besides what the thread is actually called. I'm not sure why someone locked my new thread, but with the whole Christmas in August thing, I figured people would want to have an actual thread going to discuss equipment. Feel free to now discuss 10 other topics or lock this thread to preclude me from discussing what I really want to talk about.

<p>I bought the Pioneer Airware JUST to record Ron & Fez and Ferrall who are at bad times for me also. I can listen at work but I'm not at my desk for 3 hours straight so the Airware recorder is terrific for me. It works GREAT!!! I'm taking it to Florida next month too! I bought the 2 year warranty too since I'm irresponsible with nice things.</p><p>I have XM in my car also but I can't record it. The internet feed is not recordable either because it shuts off after 1 1/2 hours. </p><p>Airware Baby!!!!! Great machine!!!!! <p><font color="Navy"><font size="2">Sirius unveiled their MyFi competitor today:</font></font></p><p><font color="Navy"><font size="2"><img width="500" height="897" border="0" src="http://www.orbitcast.com/archives/Sirius-S50.jpg" /></font></font></p><p><font color="Navy"><font size="2">On
my first look, I was like "HOLY SHIT!" That a nice looking receiver,
MUCH nicer looking than any of the XM2Go units. It has a capacity to
record 50 hours of material, whether it be recorded Sirius programming
of MP3/WMA files. So I'm thinking that, on the heels of their unveiling
their Starmate Replay device that blows away the Roady XT, that Sirius
has actually caught up and in some ways surpassed XM hardware. BUT:</font></font></p><p><font color="Navy"><font size="2">It
costs $359.99. $60 dollars more than the MyFi started at, but that could be
acceptable since the price would eventually come down. However: That
$360 only gets you the unit, which cannot pick up a Sirius broadcast.
And I mean ONLY the unit. No docking station, nothing. So you're paying
$360 for a glorified flash MP3 player. Home and car kits cost $99. So
it breaks down like this:</font></font></p><p><font color="Navy"><font size="2">MyFi, which you can use to listen
anywhere as well as record programming and which comes with everything
you need to listen anywhere, car, home, anywhere: $250.</font></font></p><p><font color="Navy"><font size="2">The
Sirius S50, with home and car kit, and you can only listen to live
Sirius programming while docked, but you can listen to MP3s:
$359+$99+$99= $557.</font></font></p><p><font color="Navy"><font size="2">I am sorely disappointed for Sirius users.
That thing looks SO fucking awesome. It's almost a tease. More than
twice the price for a unit with less functionality than the MyFi,
except for MP3s.</font></font></p><p><font color="Navy"><font size="2">And they unveiled this atrocity:</font></font></p><p><font color="Navy"><font size="2"><img width="512" height="435" border="0" src="http://prn.newscom.com/cgi-bin/members/thumb/wmark?doc=PRN/prnphotos/docs/048/383&size=512&logo=logo" /></font></font></p><p><font color="Navy"><font size="2">No comment needed. <p>That bottom one is the "Sirius One." I guess
it's their version of the Roady, like a bottom level product. It will
cost $80. Which is kinda pathetic, the Roady2 is cheaper and superior
in every way, even with its putrid display. And that's even discounting
the RoadyXT, which I guess will be it's competitor once its released.
The more I think about it, the Starmate Replay will not even be
competing with the RaodyXT, which makes me look at that differently.
Still a very good receiver, but the announcement of the One makes it
clear its not competing with the RoadyXT. If it were, the Starmate
would blow away the XT. Here's the Starmate Replay for anyone

<p>I bought an origanal Roadie right before O and A debuted. I got a great deal at the time ($50 included free shipping and activation). I bought another f.m. modulator and antenna on ebay so I could semi-install it in my car, and have the capability to switch the unit to my partol car with the spare set of wires. Well, Monday, I broke my antenna in the patrol car ( I am a clutz), so I went to ebay to buy another one. Cheapest one I could find was $25 after shipping (THIEVES!), so I checked other searches. I found a brand new, factory sealed Roady2 with antenna, power cord, cassete adaptor, car mount, etc... for only $34 after shipping. </p>
I shucked it, and I shucked it, and I shucked it, i'm quite the mother shucker
I just found out how much storage that Sirius

It's absolutely rediculous that Delphi hasn't updated the screen on the
roady. F the xt, the roady is already small enough, the smaller
sleeker version still looks like garbage with the screen. The
Starmate one looks pretty nifty, but I agree that sirius's "portable"

does anyone know which of the three portable xm units is considered the best?<div>From my research they seem to have the same capabilities what I want to know is personal experience with any of these.</div>
<p>There's a problem with the Nexus, and the
explanation will be complicated. The Nexus is based on XM Connect and
Play technology. What that means is that the XM chipset responsible for
decoding the XM over the air stream is in the antenna itself instead of
the radio unit. It bascially turns the antenna itself into an actual
radio. It's an ingenious idea that will allow hardware manufacturers to
easily and cheaply make their equipment XM Ready for such items as
stereo receivers and table radios. However, Connect and Play being
implemented with a device like this is problematic. Since the chipset
is in the antenna itself and not the Nexus unit, if you want to buy and
use the car kit you will need a second XM account. This is because in
your car you will need a second Connect and Play antenna with a
different chipset, which would essentially make it a second radio.<br />
</p><p>A positive to using Connect and Play is that it is possible,
though not confirmed, that you can use the base station record XM
broadcasts or even listen to live XM without the Nexus being attached.
That's speculation on my part, but is possible consideing the
tech.</p>

Sorry if this topic has come up already.
Does anyone know how to get these shows as mp3s. I'm willing to pay, for example, for the internet feed. But I can't listen at the time they are on. Is there a way to record the internet feed as mp3 files???
(I used to be able to listen to all of the shows via SU and the shared mp3 files (for free.) Now I can't here them and it is frustrating.)
-I'll log off now, and listen to your

<p><a href="http://www.orbitcast.com/archives/dell-dj-and-xm-satellite-radio.html" target="_blank">Some info is out on the new XM unit from Dell.</a></p><p>The
info is sketchy and not complete, but here it is: it's like the Nexus,
an XM/MP3 player, so it can't recieve a live signal unless it's docked.
HOWEVER, it blows away both the Nexus and S50 in terms of storage. The
Nexus, comes in a 512K an 1GB size, and the S50 is a 1GB. The Dell unit
will be able to store 6GB, and might have a model with as high as 30GB
of storage. Nothing is confirmed, and there's no price or pictures yet,
expect those on Monday. I'm a little disappointed, I was hoping this
one would be capable of live storage.<br />

<p>I'm getting frustrated with my MyFi. Two times (in the month that R&F have been on) my record feature has failed. Both times were on a Friday. Fortunetly, Mikeyboy pointed out the replay schedule, so I was able to record and listen on Sat. night.</p><p>I'm also having problems with reception. When listening live, it cuts out more than my former Roady2 did. Also... since I use the FM transmitter to listen in my car, I find many instances of static.</p><p>Has anyone else had these problems?</p>

So I was over at Best Buy, and I was looking for a new boombox-style CD player for my daughter to replace the one that just broke. (Note to parents and potential parents: no matter how cute your kids think that Hello Kitty CD player is, don't buy it. It's a piece of crap.) Anyway, I saw for about $20 to $40 more than the average model, <a href="http://www.gpx.com/shop_ind.php?id=234&pid=81" target="_self">this</a> XM ready model from GPX. Since my daughter really likes the XM kids station, as well as a few others, I'm considering picking this up and paying the additional $6.99 a month to have an additional XM receiver since I'm often taking my receiver with me when I go somewhere. Does anyone know anything about this model? Best Buy has it for $80.

It says XM ready which makes me suspect that its an
XM Connect and Play unit. That means you'll need to buy a XM Connect
and Play antenna to use XM with it. The antenna costs $35-$40. Now, I'm
not sure about that, but it seems likely to me. I've never seen that
unit before so I can't say anything about the quality. Doesn't mean
it's bad, I just don't know.<br />

Update for anyone who cares. HBox was right -- that model does require the XM Plug & Play antenna. I ended up getting it anyway, and purchased the antenna as well. The antenna gives me some versatility if it become more common for audio equipment to be manufactured "XM ready". Hooked it up last night, and it works well and sounds great. ...and yes, I did get an XM radio for a 4 year old. Point and laugh.

<p>Point and laugh? I WISH I had music at my fingertips when I was that young! I remember putting records on a turn table and still messing with 8 tracks from time to time in my youth.</p><p>I'm guessing she can't hear 202? XL channels are usually for 13 and older.</p>

I have a MyFi, and am rather upset. I live in Boston for now while I
attend college, and reception inside buildings is slim to none without
an antenna. myradiostore recently advertized a "new and improved" clip
on antenna, which was crap, it broke easily and had worse reception
than the XM2Go direct connect antenna that I bought with the MyFi. With
the antenna, reception is perfect outside, but 50/50 in most buildings,
which is rather frustrating. I am seriously considering dropping the
$35 for the antenna headphones.<br />

Though the commercia,l with Elton John dancing around everywhere with his Myfi last Christmas was deceptive, the Myfi was never intended to be used inside with anything other than the home antenna. The wearable antenna is only intended for use outside (such as when walking, jogging, etc.).

I've got the Pioneer Airware and I have to drag the antenna outside to get decent reception both at home and at work. Sometimes even then I get the fade in and out signal but if it's too bad on the recording I made at 11 I just listen at midnight. <div>And another thing I finally discovered with the recordings--you have to clear "my xm" after you listen or else when you go to record the next day it won't or you'll get part of the show tacked on to the end of the previous recording. I hate when I forget to do this and go to listen and find yesterday's show. I've done this twice on a Friday--the worst day since there's no replay Friday night. I have to wait for the weekend replay. Arrggh! But it's worth it to hear our buddays!</div>

extreme solution that some people have sought for this problem is
removing the FM radio's antenna from the car. Apparently, it
works quite well, but of course, you can't listen to ANY terrestrial
radio.</p><p> </p>
