Yesterday I decided I was booking a last minutre Trip to vegas. This is my 1st trip that I will be going on that I am not bringing a laptop, hence no way to charge my IPOD. Well there is a way, but it is 30 or 40 dollars at the Apple Store or Best Buy. You can order cheaper ones on the Internet, but there is no way to get it here before I leave.

So then I start thinking maybe I will just bring a laptop to charge the IPOD, but that is crazy talk. I decided I was going to make my own charger, FOR FREE. Just like our hero Ronnie B, I have never had a job I have not stolen from, so i went into my Box-O-Wires and found an old cell phone charger and a USB cable, as well as a USB female adapter extender from a motherboard.

A little bit of wire stripping, voltage meter testing, and soldering and now i have a wall charger for not only 1, but 2!! usb devices.

So in the end, fuck best buy and Apple for your over priced shit. 25 bucks for a USB printer cable is insane, and so are charger prices.

Anyone else ever do any home brew projects like this? I know Jon makes some amazing computer cases.

I made a "red box" back in the day for free phone calls.

I'm really ticked off at Best Buy these days too. They replaced all of their CAT5e cable with CAT6e, which is functionally identical when you're wiring a home or small office. It just costs exponentially more. And don't get me started on their gold plated printer cables.

I didn't even know they existed until recently.

I found a local cable making company and I usually buy my cable through them, and then make my own. I needed a 100ft cat5 cable for a home networking project, and bestbuy, staples etc wanted over 50 bucks I think for it. Anyway I made my own for $6.50.

There is no reason that they should be selling cat6 wire, or gold plated any kind of computer cabling. They just do it to rip people off. even though it seems like a great deal on a printer, they fuck you in the ass when they sell you the mandatory cable for that printer.

I'm totally hooked on the new wave of the DIY movement. I'm read Make regularly, both online and the magazine.

In fact, when you get back, you should submit pics of your cable to their blog.
