View Full Version : Dreams

Scientists say that we all dream every time we sleep, usually several times. I'll have to take their word for it because I almost never remember mine. If I do, it's usually something incredibly outlandish and I'll only be able to recall one or two a year. Seriously.

Last night was one such occasion. I dreamt that an incredibly tall (about 7 feet) black biker and his chick invited me to a party. I had bumped into them in a convenience store and they told me they were picking up supplies for a big bash nearby and they insisted I stop by. I followed them back to an apartment complex and the party was raging. There were tons of people inside and out and everyone was incredibly friendly even though I was the only white dude in the place. Then the biker and his girlfriend started saying some things to me that made me feel like I was being set up. I don't remember exactly what they said, but I knew I'd best be getting out of there. A bunch of party goers tried to block me on my way to my truck but I managed to get past them.

Just as I started my vehicle I heard tons of motorcycles approaching. As I was pulling out of the lot an army of bikers was heading straight for me. There was only one road in and out of the place and I knew it was a classic "them or me" situation so I stomped on the gas and headed straight for them. That's when I woke up.

I have no idea what the dream meant, if anything. I just wonder why they're so damn weird sometimes.

I can tell you I dream every night- I ususually remember them all. Most are totally fukd up situations but I remember them all. From what Ive heard when you drink heavily you never reach that stage of sleep..I would be a good guinee pig to disprove this- cuz I drink constantly and still dream and remember them all.

The ones I dont remember me come back eventually.

I have lots of recurring dreams.. (I may be revealing too much and you might think Im fukd in the head), but I have reacurring dreams of killing people either as a vampire or as a sniper...very weird paranoia shit.

I also have a reacurring dream where I feel paralyzed..wake up and all I see is a shadowy cloaked figure standing at the side of my bed. All I see is its glowing red eyes staring back and I cant do anything- the catch is Ithink that Ive woken up and feel this is real- scares the fuk outta me.

I had one once where I was imprisoned in a cave with the cast from Gilligan's Island. Mrs. Howell was bitching about how damp and dirty it was. I escaped. I had to fight flying Japanese soldiers with little wings on their backs. To win the war, I had to make it to the bottom of a cliff on a rope. Halfway down the rope, there was a floating Wendy's and a floating flower shop. I woke up before I made it to the bottom.

I've had a recurring dream for many years. I see a plane crash, and I always try to take photos of it before it hits the ground. The location changes sometimes, but it's usually very close to my house.

I have several dreams a night and I usually remember all of them. All
are vivid, some so disturbing I wake up crying. Lately I've been having
dreams with spiders in them. Big, hairy spiders that I go up to to look at
close and they jump on me. Makes me shudder to think about it.

Wow.. I know I dont sleepwalk. I have had times where My bf saiys he has conversations with me at 7 am when he gets home and I'm like..."huh?" we didnt talk...and he looks at me like I am just the most retrted person ever. I have no recollection and usually dont believe him. Thats as close as I come to that.

When I have what I consider to be night terrors its horrific. first time it happened I was labout 15, I was lying in bed, falling alseep, and for some reason I was staring at my dresser, next thing I knew I was trying to look around and move, but I couldnt. I was totally and utterly paralyzed. I tried with all my might to move or scream.... trying sooooo hard to scream, and I couldnt muster a sound. it was even hard to breathe. the whole time my eyes were just staring at the dresser. this seemed like it went on forever. I will never forget just how disturbed and horrified I was the moment I awoke and shot up. I was alive...I could move again. I will never know how long it truly lasted, and everytime I have had one since then other people have said there was no inkling of a nightmare etc. The last one I had was about a month ago....falling asleep, then all the sudden I felt as if I had to get up...wake up....NOW. I tried and tried, same story, couldnt move or scream...I kept trying to scream my Boyfriends name but it wouldnt come out....later when I woke up he told me he had been up for hours he was on the computer while I was sleeping so we were in the same room. He said I hadnt made a peep. I dont understand them and I always worry that it will happen, Its funny though...I get a wierd sensation when they happen, like the moment I am in that dream world....like its this world between sleep and being awake, I instantly know Im having one. I think to myself....oh shit.

I usually remember a couple dreams a week. Some of them are real mundane like me eating a Lunchables pizza, but others are fucking insane. One recurring dream I have is me robbing a bank or something and I get in a shootout with the cops. I always get overwhelmed and get killed, which wakes me up. My spring break starts tomorrow so I'll finally get to sleep. Whenever I remember a dream I'll post it here. Yous guys should do this too, consider it a science experiment.

World turns black and white
Pictures in an empty room
Your love starts fallin down
Better change your tune

Reach for the golden ring
Reach for the sky
Baby just spread your wings

Chorus:
Well get higher and higher straight up well climb
Well get higher and higher leave it all behind

Run, run, run, away
Like a train runnin off the track
The truth gets left behind
And falls between the cracks

Standing on broken dreams
But never losing sight
Spread your wings

Chorus

So baby dry your eyes, save all the tears youve cried
Ohh thats what dreams are made of
Oh baby we belong in a world that must be strong
Ohh thats what dreams are made of

Solo

Chorus

Higher and higher who knows what well find
And in the end on dreams we will depend
Cause thats what love is made of

I had a dream recently that made me wake up in a panic.

I'm in a car with Ron, Fez , and Dave. Dave is driving and wasted at the wheel. We are in a parking lot that is really narrow. Dave is swearving all over the place. He can't keep control of the car and everyone is yelling that he has to stop before something bad happens. I can feel the tension in my mind thinking I don't want to crash. At the end of the parking lot is a huge brick wall. I keep thinking to myself "If Dave hits that wall we're all dead". He hits the wall. The pain is too much to imagine in my mind. Dave dies in the crash. For some reason Fez and Ron go to the hospital but I just walk around the parking lot all bruised up. Everyone knows I was in the accident and comes over to look at my bruises. When they see them I'm kinda depressed that they don't look as impresive as the huge accident.

i had a dream during a nap today about fezzie. don't remember much about it but i remember walking down the board walk and i kept asking him if he was okay because i remember on the show he was out of breath going on the treadmill. we sat down at a cafe and were having a beer and some jackass came up and started ripping on fez. i stood up and was about to throw down but then woke up.

Although I don't normally remember my dreams, something that happens pretty often is that when I first lie down to go to sleep and close my eyes, hundreds of faces will flash before me. It's like I'm watching a movie on my eyelids. I'm completely conscious, but it usually happens when I'm extremely exhausted.

Anyone else ever experience this? I wonder if it's every face I saw during the day and they're all stored in my subconscious mind.

Gvac wrote:

I have no idea what the dream meant, if anything. I just wonder why they're so damn weird sometimes.

Gvac.. from a purely biological perspective there are two hypothesis on dreaming that I know of:

The Activation-Synthesis Hypothesis and The Clinico-Anatomical Hypothesis.

In very simplified and brief according to the activation-synthesis hypothesis, dreams begine with periodic bursts of spontaneous activity in the pons- PGO waves partially activate many but not all parts of the cortex. The cortex combines this haphazard input with whatever other activity was already occurring, interprets the sum as information, and does its best to synthesize a sotry that makes sense of it all. Because activity is suppressed in the primary visual cortex, normal sensory information cannot compete with the self-generated stimulation, and hallucinations result. The input from the pons usually activates the amygdala, a portion of the temporal lobe highly important for emotional processing, and therefore, most dreams have strong emotional processing, and therefore, most dreams have strong emotional content. Because much of the prefrontal cortex is inactive during the PGO waves, memory is weak.

Ok so that's one hypothesis in a nutshell... i don't have time right now to break that down for you but if you want you can PM. I have always been interested in this shit. I'll give you the breakdown of the other hypothesis when I have more time. I have to go shower now.

Oh and PS to Gaia.. I think what you're experiencing is Sleep Paralysis.. a symptom sometimes but not always associated with narcolepsy. Other people may experience sleep paralysis occasionally, but people with narcolepsy experience it more frequently, i fall into the former category. Night terrors are more common amongst children but not exclusive to.

I just had a crazy new dream last night. I'm at this parking lot by my house. Its the Walbaums/ToysRUs parking lot in Massapequa if you are familiar with the area. There is an air show going on. The parking lot is mostly empty and me and my family are watching this one jet. The jet is kinda hovering like a helicopter for a minute and it crashes to the ground hard. It kinda lands but then it bounces back up and flips into Sunrise Highway ( which is the road in front of it). In my mind I think " Ok maybe this won't be that bad". The jet begins to tumble in the road and causes mass confusion. I can see bodies getting throw up into the air. The bodies are so vivid in my mind. They aren't whole but thrown into pieces all over the place. People start running all over the place. I want to leave but I'm scared I just make my family stay close . Then I wake up.

I always have the weridest dreams. I never used to remember my dreams but lately I remember little pieces and i'm always doing very ordinary things. The only thing is that whoever is in my dream is doing something that will hurt me in some way. I don't know why, maybe it's low self esteem. I hate it! No matter what my dreams suck!

Although, I do have to make an execption. Every once and a while I'll have a dream about either being pregnant or having a baby and Bobby is usually just playing with the baby or something cute. :) I'm excited about having kids, but I'm totally not ready for it. So my dreams fulfill my baby needs.

i smoke the pot almost daily, which inhibits either my ability to dream or to remember them when i wake up.

all i know is that when i take a break for a week or so, after about the third day without it, the dreams are intense. very real and very bizarre. i will wake up sweating and disoriented. WAY better than getting high. this eventually wears off, though. it's a vicious cycle, i suppose.

The last dream I remember having was about a year and a half ago, and I dreamt I was driving home from my chick's apartment when a cop began tailing me. I made sure I had my seat belt on and was driving the limit, but he was creeping me out. Then I noticed a road block up ahead. There had to be at least 10 squad cars there with their lights on. As I approached, they surrounded my truck. I rolled down the window and a cop asked me to step out. When I asked him what this was all about, he told me I was under arrest for the murder of Lacy Peterson.

I started freaking out, telling them "You've got the wrong guy! I always have strange dreams and i don't think they have any meaning to them. Last night i had a dream where i was going to my grandparent's house. So I don't remember the first part of the trip and i remember saying that in the dream, but then it cut to a boat b/c apparently iowa turned into a watery wasteland. We had to drive a boat around these water buffaloes which were like wooly mammoths cruising around in the water. We got close to hitting one of them, but narrowly missed them. Eventually we hit a log and one of them went under the boat and launched the boat with just me in the air. Then i land the boat, but it has holes in it and my cousin is pissed b/c there was a cake in there for a dancing contest and its ruined. I don't get it.

BE WARNED. THIS A LONG ONE!!!
It started with me sitting in my car in a driveway. I saw that a car was pulling up behind me, so I inched my car forward a little to let him squeeze by into the garage. This scene kept repeating, with me pulling up a little further each time. Then I realised it was the same car every time, and it didn't make sense that so many cars could be going into the garage.
It dawned on me, that what really happened was, the car actually ran into mine. When I though I kept moving forward a little more each time, I was actually seeing the result of the crash a little more each time. So... I figure, I've been in a crash, but I must be alive, and remembering it little by little. So I just accept that everything is fine, and I'll watch the images to see what happened.
I see my car heading toward a car that's already parked there. I figure that this must be when crash into that car, my airbag deploys, and I'm fine. But my car bounces off the parked one and somehow out onto the road. I see another car headed for mine. It looks like it's going to hit in a part that still won't kill me... so I still feel fine.
That car knocks mine out to the other side of a divided highway. I see another car coming toward mine, but like the last one, I feel I should be OK. I'm not sure if another car hit me. I can't remember. I just know that (at some point) I realised I am actually dead. I'm up and walking around, but I'm dead (out of body).
Let me step outside the dream for a minute...
I fear a sudden death. I've had many instances in which I thought I might die within seconds, and I think, "This can't happen right now. I've got stuff I haven't done. I need to talk to my children and a few certain others, first".
Back to the dream...
During this whole thing, I'm not the least bit scared. I was taking it as just something that was happening... it was interesting... I'd like to see how this turns out, but I'm not really concerned too much.
I'm now about to walk into a house where there are people. For some reason, I'm holding my cell phone. I'm kind of thinking I should call someone and tell them what's happening. At this point, a woman shows up. I seem to understand right away, that she's there to take me to where it is I go when I die. We're somewhere between "cordial" and "pleasant" with each other.
She tells me I can't take the phone with me. I give it to her and say "I don't need it. You can have it". She says, "I'll put it back in your car when we're done". We start walking toward an office building. I turn to her and ask, "Did I do it right?"
"Did I do it right" was referring to my life. I wasn't asking about specific or tangible things. I guess a simplistic description of my question would be, "Did I choose the right religion"... but it wasn't really that. I believe in God, but I'm not a fan of religion.
Did I do it right? I think it's kind of like the whole "do you get it" idea. You either "get it" or you don't.
She just smiled in a way that was somewhere between cordial and pleasant and said, "Step inside the door. You'll find out". I opened the door and saw a typical business office reception area. I wasn't scared at all. The entire thing was still very "matter of fact" for me. Though I didn't know what lay ahead, I wasn't worried about the outcome. The people there appeared to expect me, but didn't make a big deal about it. Kind of like walking into an office for a scheduled appointment.
I headed toward an other door, and....
MY FUCKING ALARM CLOCK WOKE ME UP!!!

Last night I dreamt that my hands were being cut off at the wrists while my best friends watched in horror.
The faceless person doing this kept telling me that he knew I could "handle this because I am a strong person" and that he "doesn't expect me to cry".
I don't remember feeling pain.
Wonder what THIS one means.....

Two days ago I dreamed that I was driving to a picnic with my mom and aunt. My mom and aunt don't get along well, but for some reason my mom was driving my aunt's car and the road was completely muddy, getting her car all dirty on purpose. We drove up to the picnic and there were some cheerleaders outside who I thought were men at first, but they were really just giant women. In the picnic I played football with a man and his son. It was muddy there too, so for some reason I didn't want to get my shoes dirty, so I played in my socks.
When it came time to eat, for some reason the picnic was more like a restaurant in a gazeebo, with a barbecue, menu, waitstaff and a line to get your food. The line was long, but the menu was clearly visible the entire time. When it came time to order I realized that I paid no attention to the menu while waiting, and annoyed the cashier as I looked it over for the first time. She yelled at me and said "We only have hotwings, how many do you want?" I'm not a big fan of hotwings, so I got a diet coke. Also in line was my fat cousin that I haven't seen in 10 years, he introduced me to his son. His son was actually just a miniature chubby identical version of my cousin.
Then all hell broke lose, the Predator was there, and I had to fight him to save the picnic. He had these neon colored dreadlocks, and so did his identical, yet smaller son. I had to fight them both. Why there are constantly identical offspring versions of people I have no idea. Later on we grew tired of fighting and sat down at a picnic table. The waitress came and took our order. This time they were serving burgers, so I placed my order with the waitress dressed up as Darth Vader, and waited for my food as I enjoyed the view of the lake through the window of the gazeebo.
P.S. for some reason I was amazed that the lake was actually at a higher altitude than where I was sitting.
