I think Earl's even off about Cleopatra being what he considers to be African. Cleopatra was part of the Ptolemaic dynasty which conquered Egypt and was Macedonian/Greek:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ptolemaic_dynasty

So I thnk Cleopatra should look Greek, not Egyptian or nubian.

First off, the Ptolemy's were Greek, decendants of one of Alexander the Great's generals. Second, Cleopatra had a huge nose, but for some reason was able to attract men so she must have had something going for her. I say not hot from the coins, but ...

No she shared the crown with her brother, so if anything, she was looking for power that is why she hooked up with Caesar and Anthony, because they could gt her the power she wanted.

Funny thing. Right after Rome my friend called and said how bullshit Cleopatra was. I agree... That was terrible casting.

Cleopatra was of Macedonian descent as stated. Her heritage has little to do with the question, though. The Western (Roman) sources paint her as a beautiful seductress. Ancient historians often took liberties in their works, and this was how they explained her influence since women did not play that sort of role in their own culture. They say little else about her. Egyptian sources indicate that she possessed many more talents that could have explained her success. The coin above suggests that she was quite a bit less attractive than we have been led to believe. Surely, she approved of the image before the currency was circulated. Either way, Caesar and Antony hit it, so I'm sure I would as well.

There was an episode of Digging for the Truth on the History Channel a few months ago that dealt with this topic. I don't think it is on demond any longer, though. The show deals with unsolved or contradictory history. I recommend checking the show out if you like these sort of topics.
