<p> </p><p><strong><font size="4">Sirius to charge less than $26/month post merger</font></strong> </p><p> By Rachelle Younglai <br />Wed Mar 7, 10:14 PM ET<br /> </p><p><br />WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. on Wednesday tried to clear up confusion over the cost of its service after buying rival XM Satellite Radio Inc. by telling lawmakers that it would be less than $25.90, the price of two services combined. <br /> <br />"If our merger is approved, we will offer consumers a much more attractive choice -- the best of each service on one radio at a price well below the cost of the two services today," Sirius Chief Executive Mel Karmazin told a House telecommunications subcommittee hearing.</p><p> </p><p>Got to give Mel credit for having balls....let's say they price it at $20...that would pay for</p><p>Howie & Opra and we'd get the privellege of listening to them at a premium price of</p><p>$7. I love the baseball on long trips. Its worth it to hear uecker. I cannot see paying more than i pay now for radio though. 26 a month is crazy talk.

This is exactly why a merger shouldn't be allowed.

Mel is being way too cutsie on this.</p><p>This merger is just a way to increase subscribers and rates. Sirius is in the position it is in because of bad management, why should XM subscribers have to bail them out?</p><p> </p>

I live in an apartment that doesn't face the southern sky, so satellite TV is not an option. When the BUCS don't have a nationally televised game, I listen to them on my Sirius.</p><p>I also listen to a lot of soccer games as well. </p>

He knows that it will be politically sensitive to get approval for this merger. Expect pretty decent deals for the first year or two, then the price creep will start.</p><p> </p><p> </p>
