<p>Fucking Kronos is pissing me off. We have Kronos timeclocks in one of our manufacturing divisions and they're trying to extort money for a daylight savings time software patch. Since we don't buy their yearly service contracts we are expected to pay for the patch. I know, you're thinking a tiny software patch can't cost much, right? Wrong. They want $995 for the patch and they charge $225 per hour for service (with a minimum of 2 hours). That's about $1500 for something that should be free.</p><p>I say fuck them. I went in and changed our time zone from Central to Eastern tonight. I'll have to do it again in three weeks to get us on the right track, and again two more times toward the end of the year.</p><p>Bastards. </p>

I heard on the news today that, along with Daylight Saving Time coming 3 weeks early, we'll be moving the clocks back 2 weeks early in the fall. I guess that means we get one week of extra daylight hours this year. Seems like a lot of trouble for one lousy week.

My Blackjack fucked me over by an hour this morning. It updated the time Sunday morning and I didn't realize that the time had in fact not changed. You think they would send a text message or something considering many people use their phones as alarm clocks. My wife's in Hawaii right now. They don't piss around with daylight savings over there. Maybe they should get their kingdom back.

No, actually Indiana adopted Daylight Saving Time last year.
So the only US States that don't follow it are Arizona and Hawaii. . .although, to confuse you further with this factoid, the parts of the Navajo Reservation that are located in AZ do follow DS time.
(I had to find out earlier this month so I could make a deadline for a sales demo there.)

(1) No, it saves energy, but it also increases the number of morning accidents involving schoolkids. (http://www.slate.com/id/2123403/)
(2) I didn't think farmers started it; I thought it was part of standardizing the railroad timetables. (http://www.webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/d.html)

However, the amount of energy it saves is considered negligible by today's standards with the advancements made in house heating and also in the lighting that is available.
And, yes I believe # 2 is correct but there was a time that it was blamed on farmers wanting longer work days without throwing off their own schedules.

It may have been mentioned in earlier years, but it bears repeating,
it's Daylight Saving Time. (no S).

I can't wait! Can we punch the people that say "but now I lose an hour of sleep" in the face?
More importantly, we lose an hour of drinking.
please dont punch me.
No worries Chris....you're trying to do something. We leave the beatings for the slackers who want 8 full hours of sleep. Weenies, one and all. You, on the other hand, have set goals and don't need to have to worry about time constraints which speed up the dreaded last call.

Hell, the money saved in reduced energy expenditures probabaly got spen on the study to see if it would save energy in the first place. Congress never does crap like this without pushing a few dozen wheelbarrels of cash to some douchebag in a labcoat and Clark Kent glasses.

and fuck daylight saving time! its an absolutely moronic practice and if anything the time shift is backwards
DST looks like this:

it should look like this:

As is well understood the further away from the equator the greater the change in sunset is from the winter to summer solstice. Here in Calgary it goes from ~1630 in the winter to ~2200 in the summer. That 5 1/2 hours makes for a very dramatic difference is usable daylight hours in a modern economy. If there's going to be a time shift it would seem to make more sense to do it in the inverse of the current model where in the winter because of naturally shorter days you increase the amount of daylight available for both commerce and recreation.

Me too bro. Gvac less clutterd:tongue:
Yes but us farmers here in New York city need to . . . . .
Well, the school kids . . . . . no, they have buses . . . . . .
Well . . . . . . nope, I can't figure out why the fuck we do this for the life of me.
Historically farmers have been opposed to daylight savings time. It was those damned "city folk" who came up with the idea.

I am pleased with the way time was today. I wish we could just leave it like this setting all year. The fucking farmers work by the sun, god damn it! If it was sunny at midnight, theyd be out plowing fields, right??? I wish Obama would take a stand on this stupid practice. It servers NO purpose to change the clocks!!
