Forgive me if this is already a thread, but what are you afraid of that you shouldn't be?

For me, and I alluded to this earlier, it's always been Niagara Falls and by association, the Niagara River. I've always been petrified of being somehow getting caught, being unable to fight the current and being swept to my death.

I tried to face my fears once. I happened to be in the Falls one winter night a few years back. I went to Goat Island, which separates the American and Canadian Falls. Then I went down to the Three Sisters Islands, which is a group of three small islands that extends into the rapids. It was dark, and I kinda felt weird for doing it. But it was the most singularly terrifying experience in my life. At certain points, just by looking into the horizon and seeing only water, it looks like water's flowing down onto you. By the time I got all the way to the last island which is like barely anything, and I looked across and could see only rapids for at least like a mile, I literally couldn't move for just doing it.

The weird thing is that people even wade out (not far) - it's not like if you fall in you die. But somehow I was that terrified of it.

I'm afraid of Interstate 81 in Va, and WV. I've had dreams of dying on it, and I've known several who have. I can drive on I-66 and the DC Beltway with no problem. But as soon as I hit 81 I start to panic.... serious panic.

It's a major part of transportation in my town (four exits), and I can't even touch it. I sometimes have to make a 65 mile drive South to Harrisonburg, VA. On 81 it takes about an hour. I have to drive the whole way on the tiny US highway, and the trip takes me at least an hour and a half.

I'm afraid of delegating important jobs to others at work. I just can't trust anyone to do certain things right. And if certain things don't get done right...my job becomes extremely difficult. No. It becomes a Mother F'er. It's gotten to the point where I can barely break for lunch on a 12 hour shift. Sometimes I just run to the vending machines and run back and eat at my desk. I'm beginning to think it's OCD. So yeah. I'm afraid of delegating responsibility to others.

I guess I should put complete trust in my government and not be afraid of anything.

But what makes me scared is the disrespect being paid to the Constitution, born out of the "war on terror."
