On November 29, 2006, The Department of Homeland Security, in a "Joint Homeland Security Assessment" with the FBI, released an ominous report. I viewed an unclassified version of the document, the purpose of which was "to provide readers with DHS and FBI analysis of terrorist use of dry runs before initiating an attack." The assessment was circulated to US federal agents and its title, in bold black letters, could not have been more clear:"Terrorist Use of "Dry Run" Tactic May Be Tip-Off for Imminent Terrorist Attack."

It just says that dry runs are a big sign of upcoming terror attacks. Which is basically saying they think if they are on the lookout for dry runs by terrorists they may be able to stop a future attack if they arrest them during a dry run.

exactly, well put. this is just one possible indicator of an attack. and imminent is a relative term. these guys are patient, and imminent could translate into years.

in today's world, w/ crazy people blaming the gov't for everything, even things out of there control it is easier for them to constantly say we are under attack then to say it doesnt look likely in the near future

aviation has been on orange alert since august 10th. the whole country is at yellow but since aviation is the targeted industry and there have been serious & specific threats (generated by German & UK's intel) since the summer, it's more elevated.
nice try though

Most Americans don't have the stomach or the desire for a "long" war. And this isn't necessarily a bad thing...it's just what our history has taught us. Most of the armed conflicts our country has been involved with on a large scale have averaged roughly 5 years or less, Vietnam being the very obvious exception. The viewpoint of the muslim world, especially the extremists, is essentially "however long it takes," and this is an attitude that has existed in that region of the world dating back to the Persian empire. 1 year, 5, 10, 100, 1,000...it doesn't matter. A victory in, say, 2001 and then another in 2018 might as well have happened just days apart. There's no real rush to "get 'er done," which stands in stark contrast to the American mentality of "are we there yet?!?"

So what are they waiting for? For us to do something really bad to a Muslim nation? Or two?

Not likely. They took my toothpaste at the airport. So much for my minty-fresh martyrdom.
