Ron was talking about family favorites today and it got me thinking a lot about my dad. Before my dad got sick about a decade or so ago, he used to play ball every weekend in leagues. He loved the Mets. My father's career success allowed him the opportunity to hang with some of the biggest Mets in the history of the franchise...Dykstra, Mookie, Strawberry, Gooden...the pantheon of the '86 Mets. Hell, Buddy Harrelson and Mel Stottlemeyer came to my Bar Mitzvah. They loved my dad and my dad loved them.

Anyway, to get to the point of the thread, every year my dad laid out nearly 5 grand to spend a week at Clint Hurdle's "Dream Week". It was kind of a grown up camp for guys who loved to play ball, loved the Mets and wanted to taste that dream of playing pro ball, even if it was only for a week. A limo would pick him up, take him to the airport where a first class ticket awaited to carry him south to Florida, very close to Mets Spring Training. He would eat, train and play with Clint's pro coaches, and occassionally a professional ball player would come by and play a little. He got his own uniform with his name on it and a video of his experience, custom edited for him to take home and show his family.

It got me thinking. I know there's a ton of programs just like this one...drive a nascar race car for an hour at top speed, pilot a fighter jet, etc. It's out there...if you're willing to pay the price. So I ask, have any of you shelled out a shit load of cash to live thier dream, even for a brief moment...or maybe know some one?

Share away.

I paid $4.75 and 3 Twizzlers to bang your mom.

I'm sorry, dude, I couldn't resist. Besides it's a joke, right? I'm sure your mom is a lovely woman.

I don't have any real dreams that you can do for money. I mean, I guess however much it costs to publish a book, but I don't think there's a camp for that. Oh, I've also always wanted to nail someone's hand to a table. I knew a kid in grade school in England that would let you punch him in the face for money. Maybe I'll give him a call.

A train ticket and hotel room to see Ron and Fez live. Might sound queer, but it was special.

Plane tickets, hotel rooms, and game tickets in City's with baseball parks. My goal is to someday hit them all. It's a slow process, especially now that I am married, but I have tried to pick one place per year for the past 8 years. If I have a son, I would consider doing one of those road trips when he's 8 or 10 and we hit a whole bunch of them.

I can't even begin to bill out in hy head all the money I've put out of pocket to try and get Unhallowed going. Not just me, but the rest of the band too. Equipment, merchandise, gas, hotel rooms, more equipment, more gas, more hotel rooms. You get the idea. I know my drum set, brand new was $3000, without hardware, cymbals and snare. I dropped $300 on my snare, love that fucking thing. Pedals, cymbals, throne, sticks, it never ends.

I'd never ask for any of it back and I don't regret spending a penny of it. I did more with my 2 bandmates than a lot of people in an underground band. When people we knew were "talking" about trying to get some sort of tour or shows going, we were "doing" it on our level. Driving our to many different venues and states across the midwest and eastern seaboard. Got our CD to pockets of Metal fans around the world.

That was my dream. I tired to realize it, didn't make it but the ride was worth everything I put into it. Spending the time with my best friends makes it all more worthwile.

Like any divorced man, I paid a gang a money to the lawyers, the courts, and the ex-wife. What I've learned during the whole traumatic process is priceless. Bachelorhood is a dream come true. Never give up your dream, Player.

I think "dreams" are priceless or can't truly be bought. None of these are necessarily dreams...of mine anyway but I've paid $400 to drive a Nascar, $300 to land in helicopters in the Grand Canyon and on a glacier in Alaska. One Friday night I paid 5 grand at a Christmas party (to a charity) to walk out the back door onto a runway and hop a private jet from Arkansas to Vegas to see Jermain Taylor beat Bernard Hopkins, meet Ed Lover (HUGE thrill and great story in itself), Michael Rapaport, Jeter and Stallone all in one night. I paid $2,500 (to another charity) to go to St. Louis with a former Cards player and some buddies for the weekend, including a private tour of the new facility. I'll never forget the feeling of the infield grass between my toes.

I'm lucky to have been put in those situations and I'm certainly thankful.

p.s. Stallone was a dick and I begged Jeter like a schoolgirl bitch but I got pics with them all.

How much have you paid to live your dream?

i haven't paid too much to live my dream. just never had a good amount of extra cash...

I never dreamed of being a pro player but on the streets of downtown jersey City I had a rep of being a great football and baseball player. one way you can tell is when you have a younger brother. sometimes when we'd get together after he had been hanging out and he would tell me how people were talking about me and different things I did on the football and baseball fields. it made me feel good for what it was worth. I excelled in alot of different football leagues i played in. even in my 30's I tried out for an all colored team in a competetive touch league in Sayerville and wound up being their best receiver for two years. i just loved the game.

i tried forming a band. i kind of got on the dreamtrain a bit late, started learning guitar at age 30. I had a drumset, bass, bass amp, several guitars, several amps, a pa, 4 mic stands and mics, 4 music stands, digital recorder, all in my basement. After a bunch of failed band attempts over a period of 5 or so years I lost my desire. I guess i invested over 5k and some major time and effort. i did get to record a song I wrote called "eat da brassiole" :-) I know braciole is not spelled correctly. I do enjoy having the ability to sit down and play along with a 100 or so tunes now and I have been teaching my daughters as well and they are getting pretty good. So that in itself is a great reward.
