I haven't heard Highlights or Ranger Rick mentioned in probably 30 years. I can't remember if I had subscriptions to either.
My first subscription I can remember was Sports Illustrated.

I don't remember exactly which was the very first, though it was likely somewhere between Mad, Highlights, and Cracked. I do also remember getting Dynamite magazine, though that was later on.

My grandpa always subscribed my family to National Geographic and Reader's Digest. I loved reading the "Drama In Real Life" in Reader's Digest. These where great true life stories of people falling into pits of lye, getting pieces of their skull kicked off by horses, etc. Great shit for a little kid to read.
