winner will be at exactly 81-81
It'll definitely take 85 to win that division.

i wouldnt be surprised if a losing record wins the division
This should be a good year for the Braves. I'm cautiously optimistic. They can't play the Phillies every game.

True, but frankly anything is an upgrade over the HHH. What an aging hunk of shit. What's even worse was going to a Wisconsin v. Minnesota game and they were blasting crowd noise out of the speakers. Pathethic.

I'm pretty sure I remember an article stating that the reason it won't have a retractable roof is that neither the team nor the city were willing to pay for it.
I'll be disappointed if an NL team loses the belt to the AL during Interleague play.
That would be like when Alundra Blayze won the WWE Women's Championship and then showed up on Monday Nitro and threw it in the trash can.

i totally thought of this potential tragedy. my vote is if a NL team loses it to an AL team they are automatically stripped of their franchise and relocated to puerto rico.

Come on, where have you guys been AL vs NL is Like Andrea The Giant VS Taka Michanoku... AL has just murdered the NL every single year in INT play... That TV title will be with an AL team, when the year ends.. Book it.. The only team that can possibly keep it in the AL, Is the Mets.

Just as much as the rest of the Cubs' Nation.
Ultimately I'm just glad that they seemed to have found something and have hopefully patched it up. Because of his service time, the Cubs still have him through 2009, so even though he misses this season, they have him two more. I just hope that the next year can be used to working him back to being a starter. Thankfully, they planned around him this year. Lilly is doing great and Rich Hill is really looking like the team's ace by a long mile. Hell, even Marquis is doing pretty well. Now that Angel Guzman is gonna replace Wade Miller, the Cubs' pitching is actually for once not the main thing I'm worried about. My biggest letdown in this is I was hoping for Prior to return solely so we could trade Zambrano. Z wants ace years and money, and he's not an ace.

"The great story we were talking about the other night was that famous red stocking that he wore when they finally won, the blood on his stocking," Thorne told broadcast partner and Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Palmer, according to media reports.
"Nah," Thorne said. "It was painted. Doug Mirabelli confessed up to it after. It was all for PR. Two-ball, two-strike count."
Two innings later, according to media reports, Thorne explained Mirabelli had told him the story "a couple of years ago."
"Go ask him [Mirabelli]," Thorne said.

or when he corked his bat ???
Nope to both. I was more pissed than most over both, but the guy is responsible for a ton of great memories for years when the Cubs were REALLY in the toilet. There's little that indicates he was corking on purpose, much less that he was doing it for a while. If he did do it on purpose, it's very telling he did it after he came back from that helmet-shattering beaning that pushed his stance off the plate and was driving his numbers down. And compared to all the other suspected big hitters of the 90's, there is no kind of accused testimony a la Bonds, Giambi, Conseco, etc.. Nobody has claimed to have given Sammy anything or helped him get it or seem him use it or whatever. I'm not saying that totally takes him off the hook, but it's interesting, especially since his power increase was more relatively gradual compared to other big boppers, and came at that younger ages when power hitters are expected to develop. Just sayin'...
At the end of the day, I saw a lot of great baseball thanks to Sammy, and I wanna see him shatter 600 and eventually have his number retired at Wrigley.

It was bottom of the 7th when the delay was called, and the cubs took the lead 6-5 in the top of the 7th. Since the home team hasn't had a chance to to have a full half inning at-bat after losing the lead, the game is suspended and the rest will be played before the game tomorrow, if the game is ultimately called tonight.

Yup, and then a 3-game series at home against the Nationals, so they better get back to .500 AND keep the title through it, especially since Soriano has woken up in a big way and Derrek Lee is on fire.

I'm kinda pissed the Cubs wouldn't drop that belt to St. Louis or Pittsburgh before both headed to Milwaukee!

I just checked the schedule and not only is the next series at home and against the Nats, then it's the Pirates again after that! The Cubs could have the title for a while AND be up on the Brewers' collective asses by this time next week.

It was bottom of the 7th when the delay was called, and the cubs took the lead 6-5 in the top of the 7th. Since the home team hasn't had a chance to to have a full half inning at-bat after losing the lead, the game is suspended and the rest will be played before the game tomorrow, if the game is ultimately called tonight.
so if the cubs had the lead prior to that inning then it just becomes a 7 inning final ??? no continuation ???

Correct. If they had taken the lead in the 6th and then the game continued into the 7th at any point after the Pirates got their 6th inning at-bats, the game would have been called and the Cubs would have won.

Our next 7 games are at home against the Pirates and then the Nationals. I'm guessing that 5.5 game lead over the Cubs is in pretty safe hands.

Well, touche. It's still likely to get my guys back up over .500. And as good as the Brewers are, you've been playing over your heads just as much as the Cubs have been playing under theirs. Things are going to even out soon enough, and here's the main reason why:
Milwaukee 133 runs scored, 116 runs scored against.
Cubs 127 runs scored, 98 runs scored against.
Milwaukee 18-9
Cubs 12-14
Statistically, even with later season adjustment, that shows it's all but inevitable these two teams are going to at least be pretty tight until injuries start making impact. By the end of May, I'll bet both teams are right there in it.

Oh, Marquis is pitching WAY better than he will right now, that's obvious...Lilly will come back to Earth, but I still think he'll have a really good year switching from the AL to the NL. Zambrano is going to remember he's Zambrano and our 5th starter is going to be better than Wade Miller, so it kind of balances out.
Do the Braves still own the NL East?

I can't believe they won today. Zmabrano looked like a complete spaz and gives up 4 runs, yet they win 6-4. Lee crushes a 2-run shot right into the win that makes me feel better about his lack of home runs so far...the guy is on fire hitting. Soriano continues to rock it, and Zambrano settled down and gave up only 1 hit and 1 walk and no runs for the next 5 innings he was in. .500, here we come!

so for example the mets defeated the cardinals to become the new tv title champs in game 1 of the season but i'm not counting the other 2 wins the mets had against the cards
so here are your leaders
1. Cubs 4
2. Cards 3
3. Mets 2

6. Reds 1
6. Pirates 1
longest successful title defense currently the Cubs with 4 in a row

I'm still up in the air. I like the general attitude improvement this team has shown and the coaching staff he's assembled, but he still favors veterans over young players too much and his micromanaging of the bullpen drives me insane sometimes. I like the signing better than I did before, but I'm still watching very carefully.

Best thing about Lou, he wont tolerate losing or players doing the things that lead to losing. And he wont compromise an inch on that.

He's struggled a bit, but that's just because he's thew new kid and he's pressing, like 99% of rookies do. He's stellar already in the field and his hitting over the last 2 weeks has really improved, but his playing time isn't too regular. I'm hoping they send him back down to play every day because the Cubs just have too much of a logjam in the OF right now. Until Jacque Jones gets traded, which likely won't be until closer to the deadline, Pie's just going to be sitting on the bench too much. He's going to be awesome when he's playing fulltime.

Marquis has potential, and he's at the top of it right now. Last season he had these moments of brilliance too. the difference is that he always followed them up with a shelling. by august he'll be hated. he is a disappointment. that's what he does. although, his bat in wrigley is interesting. i loved him as a pinch-hitter.

Man, some days I just love baseball...Cubs and White Sox back and forth all day, my boys manage to take back the lead 7-5 in the bottom of the 8th, only 1 out with the bases loaded...Derrek Lee pinch hits, having missed the last 5 games due to neck issues. His first swing at the first pitch is hideous...this looks like it's going to end badly. He stays with it, works the count full, then blasts a grand slam. Cubs end up winning, 11-5, putting them back at .500.

fuck you pirates for not bringing the title back to STL with you. although at this point the cards probably wouldn't have taken it back anyway. but hey, they signed Todd Wellemeyer and his 10-plus era so i'm sure they'll be in contention in no time. fucking shitdicks. the new stadium was supposed to generate revenue and increase payroll. Kip Wells is our big addition? god forbid they even attempt to get a decent bat. this type of mediocrity is the reason i am not a Cubs fan. sorry for the lengthy retard rant but my summer is quickly going to shit.

Sometimes I don't know what is worse. A swinging strikeout or just a called third strike when you see the guy turn and look all confused at the umpire.

This part was my favorite:
Four women have gone to court seeking child support from Dukes. In all four cases, the court found Dukes was the father, meaning he has at least five children by four women. Two of those women were pregnant at the same time, giving birth in 2003 within eight days of each other.
