<p>I guess. I'm really diggin 'Either Way'. Definatly a nice, mellow summer song. 'you are my face' has a nice guitar solo. i just wish it was may 15 th already. </p>
<p>Both songs that were leaked are solid. </p><p>I would guess that this will be a very laid back album, as I saw Tweedy doing an accoustic set in November & he did two other songs "Be Patient with me" & "What Light" that seemed very laid back as well.</p>

<p>I liked "A Magazine Called Sunset"...</p><p> </p><p>I'll be sure to pick this up </p>
Has anybody else heard the new album yet, since they leaked the entire thing again? It's pretty fucking impressive.
A reminder that the new album is going to be released this Tuesday.

I just listened to the album thrice. It is a bit of a callback to the Uncle Tupelo, A.M. days, but not to the point of being derivative. I must say, the reason I have gravitated toward Tweedy's work as opposed to the work of Farrar is Tweedy at least had the balls to explore, with the possibility of failure, new creative horizons. Meanwhile, Farrar wasted
the better part of four Son Volt albums spending the same creative capital he had maximized while writing for Uncle Tupelo. Tweedy, for whatever it is worth, attempted creative growth beginning with Being There, to occasional disappointment, but more often than not, meeting with great success. To call Wilco's new album a bit of a throwback is fair, to an extent. I, however, see it as more of an evolution, perhaps reflecting Tweedy's newfound sobriety, but I also have never heard his voice used as effectively or tellingly, perhaps in more musically simple dressings yet overall, more impactful.

the new album has it moments, "either way" is a great wilco song with a great feel ... "what light" on the record sounds a lot stonger than on the album
it's not fair to compare, but it's a lot stronger than the current son volt album
the interesting thing about wilco is how much tweedy falls in love with a sound or muscian: bennett with summerteeth, o'rourke with everything since and now nels cline's guitar sound seem to jump out in each song

Yeah. What he said.
I'm still waiting for my preorder copy to come.
Hurry up Mr. Postman!

fuck. does that men that nels is outof the band after this?
I'm really happy with Sky Blue Sky so far. I'ts definitley slower and quieter than previous albums, but I woudn't call it boring. It might not be a great album to drive to.

probably, "a circle can only have one center ..."
i like it a lot better than the last album ... it has a more consistent, less indulgent sound ... hopefully, the current mix will remain for a while ... wilco has alwys seem to get better the longer the current version stays together

I dunno, it's OK...I love this band to death, but there's this whole easy listening vibe all over this new album. They definitely seem to have crossed over into the "adult alternative" zone.

if you visit their main fan-based messageboard, viachicago (http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?showtopic=26738), they have some very cool album demos and outtakes for download ... the sets of YHF demos are classic, maybe my favorite

Downloaded it from I-tunes today. I've listened to it once, but I need a couple more times through.

yeah this album did nothing for me and i have loved every other album they put out. i guess the problem is jeff tweedy stopped smoking cigarettes, doing pills, he runs 5 miles a day now and now he's happy so the music got boring

Yeah, it's shallow, but I say the same thing to my friends, and I'm only half-joking when I say it. The dude cleaned up and he's a dad now...that's gonna dull a lot of fires. Jay Bennett being fired/quitting is the other big thing that I really think damaged Wilco for good. I still like them...it's just not as awesome.

Totally agree, it sounds like 70's AM radio to put it bluntly

I am suprised no one has commented on "Impossible Germany" yet. I downloaded the album weeks ago (I love the internet) and it is right now my most favorite song on my 40gb mp3 player.
The instrumental in the last half kills me. Tweedys voice is amazing. This song is medicine for me.

Impossible Germany is very good, but "What Light" is quickly rising on my all-time charts. I don't know what it is...but I'm obsessed with that song.

seems unavoidable:
VW and Wilco create music and advertising first (http://www.prdomain.com/companies/V/Volkswagen/newsreleases/20076141095.htm)
Jun 2007 : In a new form of music/promotion/communications, the band Wilco's recently released album Sky Blue Sky is the soundtrack to Volkswagen's latest TV campaign. This new form of marketing collaboration has the creative forces of Wilco and VW combining to launch both an album and a VW campaign in the same week (May 22nd). The partnership spans multiple commercials and multiple songs, with the first song being "The Thanks I Get." The Wilco Volkswagen union will run for the summer and all songs can be streamed on vw.com. It's also the first-ever licensing deal for Wilco. (http://www.prdomain.com/companies/V/Volkswagen/newsreleases/20076141095.htm)
Without music videos mattering, alot of bands are using advertising as a means of self-promoting very early in the delivery of new product.
The iPod commercials are a great example of that...with U2's Vertigo being the shining example. I've also heard them use the Fratellis & the Living Things amongst others. Mellencamp basically did it with the Chevy Truck ads. Heck a couple of years ago Rolling Rock using Louis XIV's "Finding out True Love is Blind".
The beauty for the bands is that they get exposure that they get paid for, rather than the old model that cost them a bunch of money. Of course the brand gets something very fresh. It's an interesting way of co-marketing.
