dam those guys are smart

yea bly is a little slow but i mean they are the best at convincing teams that their running backs are good when in reality its the system at denver

mike bell (who i picked early last year in my draft) wasnt all that great last year but with him being predicted to get the most of the carries he should be a HUGE pick up this year. They have a lot of pics this year though and you never know till game one who is going to be the starter for denver

It doesn't make sense to me from the Lions point of view. Kevin Jones is solid. Unless they were just anxious to dump Dre Bly, which may have been the case.

At any rate, I'm happy. I play in a keeper league, I drafted Mike Bell last season, and I own the rights to him for this year, if I decide to keep him. Between him, and Maurice Jones-Drew, I'm in a good position, and I have a lot of high draft picks.

Now if Carolina can clear DeShaun Foster out of the picture and give the nod to DeAngelo Williams, I'll be set.

Mike Bell can handle all situations and is much more level headed so I would have kept him too. Sure Tatum can be more explosive, but he's injury prone and doesn't fit the system for Denver like they'd like. Shanahan never really liked T. Bell, and they really needed to fill the DB need after they lost the kid who played real well last year for them in that tragic shooting. Yet they did lose their 3rd RB as well to a tragic death. But like someone else said, Denver always generates rbs due to their dirty style of O line play. I really hate most of their front five as they've ended the year of SD D line players by rolling their legs almost every fucking year. I hope Bly is a flop, but he isn't the #1 corner so he'll probably be fine. With Champ on the #1 receiver, Bly's job just got that much easier coming off of being the #1 corner.

Oh and never underestimate the ability to cloud up the RB situation from a fantasy standpoint for Denver. Mark my words, they'll have some other no name there next year that all of a sudden splits the carries. They refuse to go back to the Terrel Davis days of one RB when they actually won Super Bowls.

Let's start taking bets now. How long until Dre Bly is dead?

This is actually one of those situations when it's a pretty damn good deal for both sides.

I'll preface this by saying that I do work in the sports scene in Detroit and spoke to some of the folks in the Lions organization today about this so I semi-know what I am talking about and not just talking out of my ass.

The Lions recieve:

Tatum Bell -- Obviously we all know that the line and system in Denver is what really makes these running backs excel, but that being said Kevin Jones is out with an injury that will most likely have him sitting most if not all of the 07-08 season. Bell is not better than a healthy Jones, but he is a hell of a lot better than their back-ups.

George Foster (RT) -- The Lions have needed help on their O-line for about 57 years and this is a great step in the right direction. Now instead of using out 2nd pick for an unproven OT or RB they can use it to maybe find a replacement for Kitna (JeMarcus Russel of the Raiders/Packers deal goes through).

Draft pick -- They need bodies.

Broncos recieve --

Dre Bly -- While he is a damn good corner, he was an asshole in the lockerroom who wanted out and stated it publicly. I liked the guy personally, but anytime I was in the lockerroom he was an ass to the press and tried to create factions within the team (starting with the whole Joey Harrington saga). Now the Broncos have a secondary that can handle the Colts. People didn't throw to Bly's side while he was here, and while he is getting older, he will be a damn good second option behind Champ.

We all know they can make 1000 yard RB's out of nothing so losing Tatum will not have any bearing on them. Their pick was useless as they have most of their team set. I don't know much about their depth chart but i'm sure they have another great tackly to fill Foster's shoes.

Both teams came out well in this deal.

There. If you actually read that entire thesis you now know more about Detroit Lions football than you even cared to.
