The sport has been dominated by great Canadian born players, but there are some great players past and present that are from the US. In my opinion its Mike Modano of the Stars. Since he came into the league hes been with the same team, not too common in the NHL or any sport to that matter. and has been consistent in scoring. He is close to 500 goals

Im torn between Leetch and Mullen, but since I am a defenseman. I say Leetch

As a Flyers fan, I know first hand how the guy could change games. And he's got the numbers to support it.

LALALALALALLALALALLALALALALLALAFONTAINE!!!!

http://www.hofstra.edu/images/law_alumni_sportsfigure_lafontaine.jpg

okay, i might be a little biased because im a huge sabres fan, but lafontaine is an unbelieveable player. his numbers are great and would have been even better if it wasn't for concussions near the end of his career.

I watched Modano and Dallas build up and win the cup kinda (Brett Hull...foot/crease controversy) way back when and I think they could have done it without Modano. I doubt they could have done it without Derian Hatcher. They were ALL ABOUT THE DEFENSE. Hell...I would go with Craig Ludwig A FLOPPING SHOT BLOCKING MADMAN before Modano. Like I say. They were all about the defense.

And their cup win was controversial but get over it Buffalo. You couldn't score...Even less scoring in the series than Dallas. The Sabres scored like 1 goal in 5 periods and they were crying about getting screwed? Yeah right.

I'll be the first to admit that win was tainted. I'd be afraid to imagine what Ted Nolan would have done in that situation. He'd probably have gone after the refs with a stick. Watched a lot of hockey back then. Never could figure out why the Sabres didn't resign Nolan. That guy was intense. Was a huge Ted Nolan fan.

Was a huge Ted Nolan fan.
after that stanley cup loss, john muckler left as gm and darcy regier was hired. he offered nolan a one year contract worth something like $500,000. nolan wanted a long term deal for more money and pretty much said fuck off. ruff was hired after that and has been the coach since. i always liked nolan as a coach, he was intense and he gets everything out of his players. he is an amazing motivator. just look what he has done so far this year with the islanders.

Yeah. Used to get the Hockey package on satellite and watched the Sabres a lot. Loved that one announcer (can't remember his name) kinda did the postgame wrap-up segments. If the Sabres were ever slacking off in the game the guy would just totally tear them a new one. Brutally honest. Best hockey coverage I've ever seen. Always made a point of going to watch the Sabres when they played at Dallas if I could.

Yeah... Robataille. Haven't had the satellite package in years but I remember how great the Sabres broadcast team was.

My sister got a thrill seeing Mr Ray walking naked with his shlong for all the world to see. And this was from the tunnel behind the bench.

Great poll....

I would say LaFontaine...i loved watching him play, but he just doesn't have the longevity of a Mike Modano or a Joe Mullen. Phil Housley was a damn good defenseman too.

I go Modano...just for the impact he's had in the game.
