The first on that comes to mind is My Melody by Eric B. & Rakim. But I could sit here for an hour naming songs.

NYCtv has a show on a lot of nights (I caught it at 9pm last night) called The Bridge. It's an hour of old school hiphop videos and the like. Last nights was filmed at the Brooklyn hip hop fest (?) and featured some of the old school Brooklyn beats. I just watch and download, watch and download. There is no way to list my one favorite. Just about anything from the mid-to-late 90s, east or west coast.

Wow, some really good choices there. These songs bring back some memories.

De La, Tribe, The JB's were all cool, kind of "hippy" rap, but for a more serious message I have to go with Eric B & Rakim... Awesome lyrics and rhymes...

Eric B & Rakim - "I Ain't No Joke"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MO2tCBteW7U

Grand Puba, Master Ace, EPMD, Digable Planets, and who can forget THE X-CLAN... The main DJ- Brother J had the smoothest voice I've ever heard on Rap. Smoother than Chuck D, and he was smooth...

X-Clan "Weapon X" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHZkCZlZJNg&mode=related&search=

I tried to find "Funkin Lesson" which I think is better, but couldn't find it.

I love DAS-Efx " They Want EFX " and i wish they had done more work in that style.

They also make Ice Cube's " Check Ya Self " have a little more style.

" Slam " by Onyx was a pretty good song in the early/mid 90's. Not a classic but a good one.

I always thought Kool Moe Dees songs were kinda corny but a few were catchy such as " Wild Wild West " and " Go See The Doctor "

Another good song was " The Symphony " by Marley Marl I think but it had a whole bunch of others in it. Video was kinda cool as well.
