OK Buddays ... I am on the market for an excellent digital camera. Here are a few things I am looking for: quick shots (not the typical 2-3second focus delay); high quality pics.

Any suggestions?

I was looking at the Digital Rebel but the thing looks to bulky.

The Rebel's not really all that bulky, but if you want a small SLR, Pentax has some nice ones.

I have the 6.3 Digital rebal SLR and I think its great, but next week Im going to get the 10.1 mega pixal Rebal XTi. Canon makes some great cameras, and they arent really bulky considering its an SLR. I know my this isnt much help but I have had no problems with my Canon and it takes great pictures.

Are you certain that you want an SLR style camera? If you're not into buying several different lenses for the camera body, and willing to carry those extra lenses around with you while you use the camera about 70% of the time, then why bother with the extra bulk of an SLR?

The SLR isn't going to make a much better image for you than a really good point and shoot. I just bought the 10 MP Digital Elph (Powershot SD900) at Best Buy for $375, and I've put it through the paces, and I love it. Sure, there's a little focus lag, but I've been shooting at the highest file setting, and I had to res down the image to print on 11 x 14 paper.

<>If I'm running on and on, I apologize, but I'm a photographer, so it's a subject near and dear if you know what I mean. The truth is that the camera has very little to do with whether or not your pictures look good. Recognizing (or creating) the right conditions is far more important. Light, setting, camera position are all far more important than the make of the camera. Terry Richardson regularly shoots entire ad campaigns (Gucci) with a disposable film camera, like the kind you find in the mini bar at a hotel.

So, get the camera that you're going to USE a lot. Point and shoots are just easier, more portable, and cheaper than SLRs. Don't get hung up on the focus/shutter lag. It shouldn't be that big of a deal. If you're taking a picture of someone in a dark bar, for example, either you are taking the time to manually focus - and if the light's low, you'll probably have a hard time doing it - or you'll have to wait for the digital SLR to pulse and auto focus, or you'll have to wait for a point and shoot to focus.

Hope that helps.

I would agree with you, but he wants it focus quickly. I've never seen a point and shoot that will focus quickly. He only needs one lens if he gets one with a decent range of zoom.
