Here comes Little Miss Sunshine. The only other one who has a chance of winning is the Departed but I don't think so.

I hate the Oscars. Hate 'em. I opted instead to read the top news stories on google.com rather than watch the god-awful Oscars. I preferred reading about the suicide bombings, the president of Iraq's stroke(?), and the pirates abducting a UN boat loaded with food and medical supplies intended for the suffering of Somalia, than watch Ellen gab and witness starlets read like soulless drug zombies words that are not their own from pretty machines you can't see. All told, I'm downright depressed right now, but better off than I would have been had I watched that shit from start to finish.

Having said all that:

1) I'm glad Forest Whitaker won. Loved Last King of Scotland, and always considered him a good actor. Now I can call him a great actor after seeing this movie, and this Oscar feels like vindication.

2) Martin Scorcese's long overdue Oscar for directing. Wish he got it for Goodfellas or Raging Bull, but oh well. Better late than never. At least it wasn't for Gangs of New York.

3) Departed is not the best movie of the year. But I still loved the movie, and I'm glad it got an Oscar. Certainly more deserving of Best Picture than Training Day ever was.

So I'm happy with the results.
