I finally bit the bullet and went and bought a iMac on eBay, used.ÿ It is a 20 inch G5 model.ÿ I cannot believe how easy it was to set up.ÿ I also bought a wireless keyboard and mouse and I simply connected everything together and the computer figured it out without loading any software!ÿ The previous owner must have selected certian fonts, and I will have to figure out how to change things, but I am a little amazed right now!!<div>I still will use both my old one and this one until I can get comfortable with this one.ÿ Thanks Gvac for all your suggestions!</div>

Anyone know how to change the fonts?ÿ Also, I saw a Internet Explorer icon and I clicked it, but I changed my mind, but I cannot seem to make it stop trying to load IE.ÿ How do I stop it?ÿ Also, how do you turn the computer off??ÿ My only option that I could figure out was the power button!

Welcome to Mac hell. They're great for image and video editing, not so much for everything else.
<p>I can't understand why anyone wouldn't like a mac. I just switched over to mac as well and i love it. </p><p>I'd really like to know what some of the downsides of having a mac are. </p>

The fonts on some web pages look off and I cant figure out how to change them.ÿ They seem bold and not what I am used to.ÿ As I type this, t looks normal.ÿ But when I look at the board and see the topics, they are strange looking.ÿ Any suggestions?ÿ
<p>Click on the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner. In the drop down menu, select "System Preferences."</p><p>This will give you a pop up menu. Select "Appearance" and see if that helps you out.</p><p>If not, use "Spotlight." This is the magnifying glass icon in the upper right hand corner. Type in "fonts" and you'll get the list of all the folders that contain fonts. </p><p>Hope that helps. </p>

Thanks!ÿ Ok, one more thing.. Can I adjust what is in the dashboard?ÿ I have the weather, a calender a clock and a calculator.ÿ I saw some people have other things, how do you change them?
<p>When you get the Dashboard on your screen, there's a "<font size="5">+<font size="1">" in the lower left hand corner. It'll give you the list of pre-installed Widgets. </font></font></p><p>You can go to Apple.Com and download any widget you want, too. </p>

Macs work great for people who don't do much "fancy" with their computers. In short, a Mac is awesome for my mom. I love to play games on my computer, therefore, Macs might as well not exist.

I'm not pleased with Vista. Was thinking of maybe getting a mac later this year.
<p>Again, go to "System Preferences" and select "Dock."</p><p>Move the slider to the middle for Dock Size and set the magnification at maximum. The applications will bulge accordingly.</p><p>You can add or subtract anything in the dock that you like, too. Just drag something there from your HD and it will automatically create an alias for it. Just pull something out that you don't use and it'll disappear in a puff of smoke. Don't worry...the application hasn't been deleted, just the alias.</p><p> </p><p>A nifty shortcut to see what apps you have open - hold down the Apple key to the left of the space bar and hit the tab key. While still holding down the Apple key continue hitting the tab key to each app. Hit the "Q" for quit when you land on one you'd like to close. </p><p> </p>

<p>Macs are the computer of choice for film editing, sound mixing, and graphic artists everywhere. They are far superior to Windows machines in the creative fields.</p><p>=</p><p>Oh yeah, esp for Pro Tools, I'm sure you know. Pro Tools = the software/hardware used by so many artists and studios it's almost a monopoly. There are others, some probably better, but the saturation of Pro Tools in the industry, Mac Driven, is the standard for now, and the forseeable future. </p><p>I gotta get me one.</p>

then is it sad that i'm operating off of a G4? :)
I wouldn't worry about the processor. I'm sure you'll get years out of your G5. The intel is a dual core, which Apple claims is much faster than a single core. I doubt the average user can tell the difference.

I love my new mac also with all the bells and whistles
2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
250GB Serial ATA Drive
ATI Radeon X1600/128MB VRAM
SuperDrive 8X (DVD+R DL/DVDñRW/CD-RW)
Apple Keyboard & Mighty Mouse + Mac OS X (US English)
20-inch widescreen LCD
AirPort Extreme
Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
It runs so smoothly, but my last mac was the last of those color coded imacs
(the white one to be exact) and that 6 or 7 years ago.

<p>Ok, hopefully I wont have to keep asking these questions (I hope no one minds!). I downloaded Firefox last night and after I had set it up, it's icon was in the Dock. I trashed the .exe file. I turned the computer off last night, and this morning when I turned it back on, the Firefox icon was no longer in the dock. What happened? Did I not save it properly?</p><p>Also, I need to know what the Mac version of Word is. What's it called? And where would I find it? Thanks!</p>

<p>I don't think AVG has released a Mac version. There are relatively few options for anti-virus programs for Macs. </p><p>I assume you just deleted the .dmg installer which is fine. If you followed the instructions and dropped the Firefox icon into your applications folder, then it is still there. New programs are not permanently added to the dock. It was there last night because you were running the program. You need to use finder and open your applications folder. Firefox should be in there. Just drag the icon from the folder to the dock, and it will stay there even when the program is not running. Now you can launch the browser quickly from the dock. Also, icons can be removed from the dock by dragging them off the dock and onto the desktop. </p><p>If firefox is not in the applications folder, then my assumption is wrong, and you will need to reinstall it.</p><p>I have Microsoft Office 2004. It is the current Mac release as far as I know. iWork is the Apple equivalent of Office. It consists of Pages and Keynote, which are like Word and PowerPoint applications. You can find these programs through the same means you currently use to get programs, whatever that may be.</p> <span class="post_edited"></span>

there are no .exe files for mac.
what you probable did was run the file off of the disk image that appeared on you desktop. what you need to do is copy that file from the disk image to your hard drive, them move an icon of firefox to the dock
and word for mac is called word. MS Office, just like windows. you can buy it at just about any computer store, a mac store, or download it from limewire like i did.

also to keep firefox in your dock after you open it just click the icon in the dock
and say Keep In Dock. Then you;ll never have to search for it.
