I can see this being a good thing for the planet, but what I dont understand is what are people going to use to carrry things from stores? Are we going to have to bring our own bags in all stores eventually?

"PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Sweden's IKEA will charge U.S. customers five cents for disposable plastic shopping bags in what the international furniture giant said on Wednesday was a first step to ending their use altogether."

If I had to guess, I would say most of the stuff people buy at Ikea wouldn't fit an a plastic bag anyways.

you would think with recycling that the paper bag would make a comeback. i prefer doubling up paper bags because you can get so much more in them and they keep items in place better

plus the cats love playing with the paper bags

oh and maybe the flour wasn't expensive but Whole Foods (Whole Paycheck), is ridiculously overpriced, especially on produce. You can get better tasting and just as organic/healthy stuff at Trader Joe's. I drive a half hour just to shop at Trader Joes.

This is why I like to bag my own stuff at the grocery store. The clerks there will
put 2 items to a plastic bag and I end up with 20 bags! Such waste. I bag the
same amount of stuff myself with the paper bag inside plastic and end up with 4
bags max. And I don't put stuff like cans in with the tomatos and light bulbs.

those bags are so amazing I dont use any other kind. they are super thick and durable and no other store uses anything close to it. why would you want to get rid of them?

I know of places that charge for bags. Aldi's charges for bags and has food stamp prices for a shitload of regular supermarket stuff, it probably makes a nice penny back by charging for bags on people who forgot their own bags, or who decide to buy two shopping carts full of stuff.
