is anyone else out there too poor to buy photoshop and using this free photoimaging software? i can't figure out how to do some simple things to text like i could on photoshop cs. wondering if anyone had it to get some tips from. i hope this thread doesn't go down in flames cause i would love some help.

I have Gimp because I refuse to take out a second mortgage for PhotoShop. I can't make heads or tails of the damn thing either, though. Especiall when it comes to adding text.

I had PhotoShop on my old computer and I had a hard time with that, too. ImageReady, however, was a snap and I loved it. I wish they had that as a stand alone.

I could do everything from touch up and resize photos to create sig pics with ImageReady. The other programs almost seem too involved, and I just get frustrated.

i just wish it was easier to manipulate the effects of the text on gimp. all i want to do is to make the text have a border so it can stand out more. many times, text gets lost in photos, because it doesn't stand out.

photoshop was much more user friendly and gimp seems to be a lot more technical. im not good with the technical stuff so its taking forever to figure out how to do anything.

I just got Gimp and I can't figure out how to resize a picture. You might want to try this if you want something a little easier, but you can only do basic stuff on it.

I use photoshop elements. It does a lot, and you can usually get it free with some peripherals.

I use Gimp, but all I ever do is crop and resize images.

I've never used photoshop much, and GIMP seemed capable. plus, it saves me the trouble of getting a crack. anyway, if you want to border your text, first select the text. The "Select regions by color" tool is good for this if it's flatly colored. Then go to the Select menu and choose "Border". Choose how many pixels you want the border to be. This will creat a selection of just the bordering region. You can now fill that with whatever color you want with the bucket tool.
