i love when you watch an older movie you love and are shocked that someone famous was in it before they hit it big. for instance, i recently rewatched david lynch's adaptation of frank herbert's dune. i was SHOCKED to find out that alicia witt played alia atreides, paul's creepy little sister. who surprised you turning up in an old favorite film of yours?

Ted Knight has a non-speaking role at the end of Psycho as a guard. It was very odd noticing him the last time I saw the movie.

I think I remember an episode featuring DiCaprio as a homeless kid living at school. I may be completely wrong about that, though.

he played luke bower (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000138/) who lived in the boiler room at school for 22 episodes in 1991-92.

Also, Harrison Ford in Apocalypse Now.

So many people don't recognize 15 year-old Lawrence Fishburn in that movie that it pretty much counts as a surprise early role too.

I love Samuel L. Jackson as the crackhead brother in Jungle Fever. Also as the guy holding up McDowell's in Coming to America, and a cameo in True Romance.

Chris Rock is great as Pookie in New Jack City.

Music crossover with Corey Glover, lead singer of Living Color in Platoon with the line at the end "...we gonna get hii-iigh!"

When I was in Egypt a few months back they showed the awful early 70s crap-classic Love Story and a really young Tommy Lee Jones played Ryan O'Neil's roommate.

Jeff Goldblum had several memorable early roles before he got big on his own: most notably, the psycho who kills Charles Bronson's family in Death Wish (the source of O&A's infamous "God damn rich cunt!" drop), and that weird magician dude on a chopper in Nashville.

It's always weird when you see an old movie or tv show with Leslie Nielsen in it playing a serious role.

Or Gandolfini, with a full beard as "Bear" in "Get Shorty".

I have two more:

"Superman" George Reeves in "Gone with the Wind".

Forest Whitaker in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High".

That was the one i was going to say. It's funny on the comemntary track Altman talked about how Arnold never mentions this one film for some weird reason.

jennifer aniston in the 1st leprechaun movie

I loved Jennifer Aniston in the TV show version of Ferris Beullers day off. Which was a great show because it was just a rip-off of Parker Lewis Can't Loose, which was just a rip-off of the mover Ferris Buellers Day Off.

I think Kathryn Erbe was like 25 in What About Bob and she was playing a little kid.

Jeff Goldblum I always remember from a TV show called " Ten Speed & Brownshoe " with Ben Vereen.

Jason Alexander was in a horror movie called " The Burning " which also had Bonnie Hunt and another minor actor who's been in a million things ( one major role was a big wig in NYPD Blue ).

I was watching Trading Places the other night and Brenda and Brendan's dad ( James Eckhouse ) from BH 90210 was in it as the jail guard.

Also Giancarlo Esposito, who's been in a lot of things, including The Usual Suspects was in it as one of the other prisoners.

Not really the same topic but I watched Mercury Rising the other night and there were 2 Seinfeld characters.

Slippery Pete was one of the NSA hitmen and the Bad Breaker Upper was a paramedic.

I watched Goodfellas and saw a good one: Michael Imperioli as that mumblin' stutterin' prick Spider.

I remember the first time I saw this movie, I was completely and utterly shocked by that whole thing. It's where the tone of the whole movie darkens, really.

(on edit) And if I'm going to mention cool early roles in Goodfellas, how can I forget about Samuel L. Jackson as Stacks, the driver who'd be late for his own fuckin' funeral?

And this clip has an "early role" of its own. Gino reappears later in the series as fat gay Vito.

Watching some of the older ( first few seasons ) Law & Orders and besides the normal recurring actors/different characters that end up in all versions ( a victim in one episode and then later on they play a judge/lawyer ) there was one with William H Macy and Courtney B Vance ( who would later be on L&O:Criminal Intent as a regular ).
