With everything that's going on in my life, this story really got to me.

First, the picture (originally posted on Fark)

Safe for work, but there's a burn victim featured inside here.

This Marine was severly injured in Iraq. He lost his hand and part of one arm, mangled the other, and obvious from the pic, he lost his face. He's blind in one eye, and I'm sure he's dealing with a ton of other physical afflictions.

His fiance was with him throughout his entire 18 month recovery, and married him.

That is the testament to true love. It makes me sad, but also gives me hope. I feel very emotional reading his story, but he's also a guy after my own heart. After his lips had been burned off and they removed a feeding tube, the second thing he said to his girlfriend was, "Wanna make out?"

The entire story is here.

Yes, the war sucks. Yes, Bush sucks. But this is a testament.

I think it's a happy story. This guy faced and is facing severe adversity, and seems to have made the best of what happened.

Man she is a better person than i am, because i don't think i would be able to look at him. I am sorry i know what he went through and everything but i just don't know if i would be able.. I am very happy for him though.

The pain of seeing someone you love and care for be placed in such a vulnerable state might prove even more difficult to 'face'. I can never in a million years imagine what these people feel or think and I hope I never have too.

As far as being able to physically stomach his presence, again I don't know how I'd initially react. It's one thing when you're at the mall and see a random person with extreme deformities, it's easy to feel disgusted yet sympathetic at the same time. But when it's someone you've grown to like and love I imagine the feelings might not be so simple.

So yeah, this really is a 'true love story', cases like this make you think what 'real love' is. If your significant other was so quick to run for the hills after a tragedy like this you'd really have to question their love and committment to you. On the flip side I wonder if it would be that difficult to get past the physical changes. Would I constantly be reminding myself, this is the same man I fell in love with as I clutched a picture of him in better days?

Bump.
Turns out, Kevin was right. She separated from him a few days before their first anniversary.

Luckily I suppose, I'm not authorized to view that link.
The inspiring part of the story though, for me, is that something touched Tenbat's heart.
