You should take the tram to Roosevelt Island and grab a turkey club at the Trellis diner. And take a picture of Fartly cheating on his protest while your there.

A while back, I was part of a group that did the Top 10 burger joints in the city, top 10 by citysearch's rankings anyway. Number one was the Corner Bistro down in the Village, and it's pretty fuckign good. Better than the Burger Joint in the Parker Meridian IMHO, although that place is nothing to sneeze at either. The best was a place called Island Burger on, I wanna say 9th somewhere in the 50's or 60's, but it burned down. It was, if I recall correctly, third on the list, but it will always be number 1 in my heart.

The various Jackson Holes are pretty good, although not a patch on the Corner Bistro. Plus they're cheap (Bistro, not Hole) and have, like, 2 dollar pints on the weekends, as I recall. Get there early, especially on a Friday or Saturday night because the line is usually out the door.

There's also Big Nick's Pizza on Broadway somewhere in the 70's - 75, maybe, 76. I've never actually had the pizza, but the burgers are outstanding.

I might get some slack for this, but there really are no great pizza places in Manhattan. For great authentic New York pizza you have to go to Queens or Brooklyn. The pizza places in Manhattan are more theme than anything else.

AND DO NOT EAT IN THE FINANCIAL DISTRICT!

PLLEEEEAAAASSSEEEEE do not go to Ray's.

I think Manhattan has great Indian, Thai and Vietnamese places. I'd suggest going to 3rd ave/23-28th street. There are a lot of AMAZING South Indian places, a great Afghani place, a good Turkish place, a few decent Japanese places (East is fun, it has sushi on a conveyer belt that goes through the restaurant) and Coppola's (moderately priced decent Italian food, with really nice service). Also, you should try the Vietnamese porkchops at Anh's!

Ok.. I'm going to keep going..

If you find yourself in Soho, go towards little Italy and you'll find some great Asian and overpriced Italian places. GO TO THE ASIAN PLACES! Try Nonya, it is extremely cheap and the food is INCREDIBLE. The Roti Cani will make you cry! It is so damn good.

For the best burger it is a tie between the Burger Joint in the Le MEridian and RARE Bar and Grill on 33rd and 1st (which is also in a hotel, forgot which one though). In the summer they also have a really cool outdoor, rooftop bar called Rare View, I think it is 35 stories up.

For pizza if you are in NYC there is no doubt the John's Pizza is the best joint. It is on Bleeker Street and 6th Avenue. If you want to venture out of the city though in into Brooklyn, Grimaldi's is the shit. I think they have the highest zagat rating in all of NYC. They are located in Dumbo right between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges. Also, in Brooklyn a place just opened up right around the corner from my pad in Carroll Gardens called Lucali. It is on Henry Street. It only opened a few months ago and has been getting tremendous write ups from the Times, Time Out magazine and many others. It is a small place and the only thing on the menu is pizza and calzones. I just tried it Sunday night and it is right on par with Grimaldi's and John's. All three of these joints are Brick Oven, sit down places. They are not "by the slice" joints.

Burgers - most people mentioned, but all the Jackson Hole's, and Corner Bistro is awesome. It's usually crazy crowded because it is always up for best burger.

Pizza, Joe's pizza near bleeker and camine. Pizza Booth, on bleeker, any of the two boots. california pizza on university, not sure if it's still there. Ray's stinks.
