<p>Greetings.</p><p>As Ron and Fez have grown nationally, we have a lot of people here from different parts of the country.&nbsp; Even though a majority of us are from either the New York, Washington, or Tampa metros, there are also people from Texas, Chicago, even Canada.</p><p>This thread is to be like a minature TripAdvisor.&nbsp; Are you travelling?&nbsp; Have you found a great spot to go to?&nbsp; Places to eat, things to do?&nbsp; Share here.&nbsp; </p><p>If you have a question, you can ask... if you don't, share your travel tips with everyone else.</p><p>I know Jersey like the back of my hand.&nbsp; I'm also well-versed with Philly and Arizona.&nbsp; I will be travelling to Hawaii in the spring, and have done a lot of research on the islands out there.</p><p>I recommend:</p><p>In New Brunswick, NJ: Southwest Burrito.&nbsp; Best salsa and guacamole in the state.&nbsp; Also has a good selection of vegetarian stuff.</p><p>10 Easton Ave<br />New Brunswick, NJ 08901<br />(732) 846-1600</p><p>In Scottsdale, Arizona: I recommend Cafe Carumba, a restaurant near Old Town which has a fantastic breakfast, and some of the biggest bloody marys (and marias) I've ever seen.</p><p><a href="http://www.cafecarumba.com/">www.cafecarumba.com</a></p><p>I also recommend the Camelback Spa in Scottsdale.&nbsp; Yes, I'm a FANCY person.</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>i suggest the hilton hotel and spa in the short hills mall area.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>to eat:&nbsp; in Las Vegas the buffet at the ALADDIN (soon to be Planet Hollywood) Hotel is the best but the rooms at Ceasar's are better. &nbsp; &nbsp;</p><p> i have others that i will add later.&nbsp; great idea Matty.&nbsp; </p>

<p>I went to Lake Tahoe (California) for the first time on my honeymoon in August. If you're ever there I HIGHLY recommend these restaurants.</p><p><font color="#ff0000">Jake's on the Lake</font> is pretty well known, you have to get a patio table overlooking the marina.</p><p><a href="http://www.jakestahoe.com/">http://www.jakestahoe.com/</a></p><p><font color="#ff0000">The Soule Domain:</font> This is more unique and intimate. It's an old log cabin that this chef bought and he used to live upstairs when he first started. It's GREAT unique food but it's almost impossible to just walk-in, I recommend reservations.</p><p><a href="http://www.souledomain.com/">http://www.souledomain.com/</a></p><p>That's my two cents. I saw a member recently that his location said Lake Tahoe. Sometimes I wonder if those are true though!</p>

In 5 months I'm relocating back to Southern Florida, at which point I will revisit this thread with a million things to do in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area. Until then, suck my Jersey balls.

A bus picks you up around 8 or 9ish (don't remember) and it lasts all day. It's well worth the money if you don't mind spending the entire day away from whichever resort you will be staying at. They give you a little tour of the local villages, houses.. take pictures with the kids (who love it!) etc etc.. it's pretty cool.. then you go to a private beach boogie boarding before heading back.</p>

<p>im glad i saw this thread.&nbsp; the other day i thought about a horrible travel experience had a few years back and wanted to start a thread about worst travel stories, so i thought this topic could be an addition to this thread.</p><p>ok, so here is what happened to me traveling to belgium in the summer of '03 for college courses:</p><p>i know its long, but it took that much room to describe all the details of this ungodly journey.&nbsp;</p><p>i went to undergrad at lehigh university and they had a history program that did summer classes in leuven, belgium.&nbsp; so the groups flight was out of washington, d.c. because it was much cheaper than philly.&nbsp; since i live in buffalo, i had to fly down to wash. to meet the rest of the group.&nbsp; my flight from buff. to wash. was supposed to be at 3 to get the flight to brussels which took off at about 6:30.&nbsp; i get to the buff. airport way too early, like 12, and have nothing to do so i start drinking at the bar.&nbsp; 3:00 rolls around and im pretty drunk.&nbsp; the flight to wash. was delayed several times and ends up not taking off until 5:30.&nbsp; so im in a panic cause im all drunked up and don't want to miss the group flight to brussels.&nbsp; end up getting into wash. five minutes after the flight i was supposed to get on took off.&nbsp; so there weren't any flights too belgium so they put me on one to london to catch a connector to brussels.&nbsp; im like whatever, i just want to get to europe.&nbsp; i finally get on the plane to london and get stuck in the last row which i hate because the stewardesses always slam my elbows with the cart when they pass.&nbsp; so about five hours into the flight, i see this kid who was about 16 running down the aisle with his hand over his mouth.&nbsp; so he gets about two feet from my seat and can't make it any further and just barfs all over the aisle, the person on the other side of the aisle actually got puked on.&nbsp; the smell of this puke was unbearable.&nbsp; then, all of the stewardesses were too scared to clean it up so they felt they should put down coffee grinds and soap to cover up the smell.&nbsp; i might add i hate coffee and the smell makes me naseaus (sp.)&nbsp; so finally land at heathrow and have to stand in a rediculously long line to check in for my connecting flight.&nbsp; the line doesn't move for like an hour and a half because all of the workers are freaking out because there was a large group of muslim men flying together and a few of their names were different than on the tickets and their ids.&nbsp; my flight was about to take off in 20 mins so i cut the line and made one of the attendants put me through.&nbsp; so now i am sprinting through heathrow airport (if you've ever been there you know how long their corridors are) trying to make this flight.&nbsp; mind you im about 6'3'' 250, bobbing and weaving through all the people.&nbsp; i get to the flight just in time.&nbsp; finally get into brussels only to find out that my luggage was lost.&nbsp; i really don't have any idea of where im supposed to go, all i know is im supposed to go to the irish institute in leuven.&nbsp; walk up to a car rental place to ask the guy the best way to get there and tells me to catch a train.&nbsp; after about a 30 minute train ride i finally get to the town.&nbsp; i wander around the town for over three hours trying to find the place because no one in the town had ever heard of the place.&nbsp; finally found the place out of dumb luck and ended up getting my luggage three days later.</p><p>worst travel experience ever.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Covington, Kentucky seemed like a nice little place. Kinda artsy and the bars around there were fun.</p><p>The Golem restaurant in the Josefev of Prague was really different. You walked underground into a dimly lit cave-like dining area and eat while a lot of old American and British Pop played(Beatles, Elvis, etc).&nbsp;</p><p>Frankfurt sucks.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Isn't there a big Hot Dog drunk-food joint in Pittsburgh?&nbsp; I remember going there when we did the Game Ball relay from Pitt to WVU.&nbsp; It's called The Big O or something?</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Ocean City, NJ: <a href="http://www.voltacos.com/">Voltaco's subs.</a>&nbsp; It's a legend down there.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Another great place in Scottsdale: <a href="http://www.oldtowntortillafactory.com/">The Old Town Tortilla Factory</a></p><p>A place that Liz loved, and I didn't like, mainly because of the heat level of the food: <a href="http://www.carlsbadtavern.com/">Carlsbad Tavern</a>.&nbsp; After taking a bit of my food, I had&nbsp;a comedic reaction on par with Marion Barry.</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

Aloha from Hawaii. Specifically, Waikiki Beach in Oahu.

Liz and I are currently staying at the Aqua Palms and Spa in Waikiki Beach. It's a servicable "boutique" hotel, clean, comfortable room, free internet. It's nothing special, but if you're doing a layover in Oahu, it's a good place to go. Apparently, with the amount of pilots that are in the hotel lobby, it's a popular place for airline staff to sleep over.

We had dinner last night at "The Chart House" - avoid this place like the fucking plague. Basically, imagine a seedy deal gone bad in a forgettable episode of Hawaii 5-0 - that's what this place looked like. shitty lounge music, bad food, high prices. Liz would like to add that the tropical mojito she had there was tasty.

Another thing I noticed last night - there was a sports bar next to our hotel. We are six hours behind NYC and three hours behind LA - doesn't that make having a sports bar slightly counter productive? I can't WAIT to watch NASCAR coverage at 6am on Saturday.

We had breakfast at "Eggs and Things" on Kalakuala (sp?) blvd this morning. A complete 180 from the experience we had last night. We had french toast with bananas and nuts and coconut glaze, plus two nice-sized glasses of fresh squeezed OJ and a huge glass of diet pepsi for under 27 bucks. nice!

We are heading off to Pearl Harbor in a little while.

Updates as they happen!

PUEBLO BONITO SUNSET BEACH: (http://www.pueblobonitosunsetbeach.com/) the most amazing place i have ever been to. not an all inclusive, but not too bad for food. plus if you go on the time share tour they give you $200 to subtract from your food bill.

where pacifica (the most insanely beutiful place you will ever see in your life) & sunset beach are you arent allowed in the ocean because of the undertow. but the pools are so nice where i didnt even miss it. sunset beach has 4 pools in different parts around the resort, each quieter than the others so you can choose which you like best. pacifica is a lot quieter & doesn't allow children. it has two pools. we went there for the day & it was just unbelievable. rose is on the side where you can go in the water. its about a 15 minute shuttle ride from sunset beach if you are really jonesing for the beach. (i'm really a pool person myself so i didn't mind) but the beach seemed really packed & the hotel while it was really nice, the rose just seemed to have a totally different atmosphere from sunset beach & pacifica becasue they are more secluded. here's a pic from pacifica:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/drusilla/pueblobonitoatpacifica.jpg

the nightlife is really busy too. i really liked it in cabo & would love to go back one day. the food was great & the bars & clubs were a lot of fun. everyone should go if they get the chance. i was lucky enough to tag along with rich friends who told me just to buy my plane ticket.

oh one great thing about the pueblo bonito resorts is that they have their own water system so you dont have to worry about any of the food. all the water from the sinks & showers, to the pools & to the water they water grass with all comes out of a bottle. they are very very careful. & when you go out to eat you always get bottled water. i never had a problem with any ice either.

there were a lot of restaurants at the resort so some nights we stayed, but mostly we went out into town. one of my friends knew someone who had a time share. so she told us about all these great places to go eat & hang out. it was a $10 cab ride from the resort to whatever place in town. the resort has amazing pool bars that serve you on the beach or by each pool. also has a deli by the lobby where you can buy snacks or a meal.

the main issue i had was that there is no internet in the rooms. there is wireless up by the lobby so i would take my computer up there each night just because i feel lost without it. sucks that i went all the way to cabo for vacation & still spent about an hour online each night (but my friends were also early to bed early to rise, which is the total opposite of me).

since the resort was built on a mountain these little guys will pick you up & take you to wherever you want to go around the grounds (even though its not really that big):

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/drusilla/golfcarttravelingpavedpathalongther.jpg

i know i must seem like a commercial for the place, but it was just such a great vacation & every inch of the resort was thought of even down to the paper towels in the bathroom. i just think that everyone needs to go & have a great time like i did.

Bermuda is a wonderful place. Nice, small, low crime - my favorite part is the fact that there are little to no sharks because the entire island is surrounded by reefs so they cant get in. i've taken a weekend trip in the past there and its great. food is great, and to speak English is all the rage!

Beaches are small but great. I LOVED Bermuda. You'll like the Dawn also and the freestyle dining that NCL does is also fantastic. Food is good and you can eat with whomever you like (or have a table to yourself) unlike other cruise lines.

Sign up for an excursions that they're running early or you may not get to do all you want. I'd recommend the carriage tour of the city and the moon-light cruise to Hamilton and any of the snorkeling or diving.

Dramamine works as long as you take it before you start feeling queasy. At least an hour before.

The ships use gyroscopes (i think) to keep the motion that would normally make you sick to a minimum. Unless you're outside, it's really hard to tell you're even moving. Very impressive when you consider how large those ships are.

Also, if you keep to the middle and rear of the ship, it reduces the amount of motion you feel. My daughter got seasick the first night we were out when we ate at the restaurant at the front of the ship. It was the one and only time we could actually feel the movement of the ship through the water.

Anyone got anything on Sanibel Island/ Ft. Meyers, Fla.?

Sanibel is gorgeous, my grandparents have owned a house there for the past 15 years or so... very tropical and relaxing. Very quiet, though, not much in the way of nightlife... but there are some very nice restaurants. It's perfect if you want to spend a few days on a beach or a boat.

My only knowledge of Ft. Myers is that's where the airport is. And I went to the movies there once.

In episode #43 of Mythbusters, they proved that those wristbands don't do squat.

Dramamine works best, while ginger pills work to a lesser degree if your motion sickness isn't as severe as Adam Savage's. (Adam has really bad motion sickness; I've seen him hurl more times than I can count. It's pretty funny, as long as they don't show me what comes up. Then I'm headed to the bathroom.)

this is true, Dramamine work the best when taken properly, my wife still gets motion sickness after her 8 cruises. There are pros and cons

Pro: In Bermuda the ship is docked for 3 straight days, so it doesn't move, you will be more than fine there, plus u can come and go as you please. Hamilton Nightlife is kick ass

Con: Bermuda waters are tough because The Atlantic from NY are very rough seas. You will luck out a little because it is the summer.

flew jetblue both ways. loved it. the people were as nice as can be. offer to move us since there was a crying baby behind us. smooth. beer and wine are served but you have to pay and they only take credit or debit. no cash. they also charge you for a blanket and a pillow, bring your own ear phones and you cant go wrong with direct tv and XM.

My OCD doesn't allow to use airplane pillows and blankets, so I'll be OK in that regard.

Fascinating that they charge for drinks. Do they like open a tab and close it at tne end of the flight?

we didnt check our bags so I do not know. We used AA for years and in the last two they have gone down hill as far as customer service and check bags. Delta is good too but Jetblue blows them away. If only they had more international flights.

Nice. I'm probably heading back to Punta Cana again in may, after our upcoming Vegas trip in two weeks. We hit the Excellence a few years back and LOVED it Norton style. The best part was that you can go up to the calm waters for activities, but that resort has some kick ass waves as it's on the open side of the island. I would ride the waves all day and get beat up, then go to the pools (all over the place) and chill with some top shelf liquor as we decided on where to eat. If only I could have twittered it all Hippo style!

:wallbash:

Oh and PS, I don't dislike the rules here Matty. I simply don't need someone changing them when they see fit. I was informed of your thoughts on my bs infractions. They seemingly have ultimately agreed as I'm back. I have no problem getting my opinions out there, but was pretty shocked to see that stance from you. No biggie, just confused/let down in a way.

My wife and I spent 5 days in the Keys last Dec. and I'm glad we went but to me Key West was very touristy, lots of shops and bars on the peirs for the fisherman. The place is stunningly beautiful and I def. recommend driving through the Keys its quite a site.Ate at some fantastic local joints in Key Largo. Overall its worth the trip.

Any of that would be great. I am staying at a place on central ave, about 3 blocks from the beach.

Is it that cute little B&B at the corner where Central ends?

What kinds of stuff do you like to do?

Cape May is fun little day-trip ... don't forget to bring quarters for the parking meters (go early in the day & park in the metered lot by the liquor store; you can't miss it) and have fun walking around all day. The pedestrian mall is really cute, but the surrounding blocks have all the restored Victorian houses, many have been turned into B&B's.

Restaurants include the Mad Batter (I have never been here, but I'm told it's good if steep), Althea's (all the locals call it "Alethea's" ... V.good, also pricey) and McGlade's on the Pier (fresh seafood, limited hours until high season; call first) ... as well as the Ugly Mug pub, an outpost of Jackson Hole Grille, a Ben & Jerry's scoop shop, Dairy Queen, Acme supermarket and several more local sandwich, pizza and ice cream shops sprinkled around the area. The Mug is a tourist trap, but lots of fun anyway. The Hole is a fun spot, too, even if you're spending the day out alone. There are "ghost tours" at Halloween of a lot of the streets ... and, of course, Elaine's (http://www.elainesdinnertheater.com/) makes its living by tying the supernatural with dinner theatre.

Most of the shops are antiques and estate sale stuff (jewelry, furniture, Victoriana) but don't miss Whale's Tail, which showcases jewelry and artworks by local artisans. (The shop is small and gets crowded quickly, so don't be afraid to circle back later; prices are reasonable and many items are very unique ... there are 3 rooms, so don't forget to explore all the way to the back. Matty & I got some great blank notecards from the stationery section all the way back there.)

Another shopping-oriented day-trip is to go up to Stone Harbor. If you're into nature preserves, Stone Harbor is also home to the NJ Wetlands Institute (http://www.wetlandsinstitute.org/visit.html).

My brothers have been to the Cape May County Zoo (http://www.capemayzoo.org/capemayzoo.org/Welcome.html) (exit is opposite Stone Harbor off the Parkway North) and recommend it to a lot of people. (I have yet to go myself.)

The Wildwood Boardwalk is a lot of fun - the usual stuff like carnival games, arcades and rides, as well as shops & crowds. There's also the Wildwoods Convention Center (http://www.wildwoodsnj.com/cc/), which is a great facility ... they have promoted it for stuff like doo-wop concerts and wrestling shows in the past. Do take a ride on the TramCars ("watch the Tram Car, please!") ... the last time I did, it was about $2.50 each way ... you can buy tickets from the ticket booth near Cresse Street or just pay the driver before you climb on board.

The Wildwoods are also home to the Doo Wop Preservation League (http://www.doowopusa.org/), which has been trying to preserve and restore the local hotels built in the "futuristic" pastiche architectural style known as "Doo Wop" ... lots of chrome, swooping arches, etc. ... they have a museum and a tour. I've never taken it myself, but I do highly recommend putting some Rat Pack music (or the soundtrack to L.A. Confidential or similar movie) on your car stereo and just cruising (at 25 mph - Wildwood PD is very strict about enforcing the speed limit) past all the old motels. It's almost like stepping back in time!

The Wildwoods are changing every day; all in all, it's a fun spot.

When will you be visiting? Check the calendar for events that may coincide with your stay ... for example, this weekend is the Kite Festival. I love the kite festival ... it's so cool to see the hundreds of kites flying on the beach near the Convention Center!

Eat at snow White's for a cheap meal. Pack some food and water for the walk to the beach, it's a quarter mile! Some nice bars and clubs along the main strip. The boardwalk has some cool shops, check out the boardwalk mall and pick up a hermit crab! Around 1:30am the food places on the boardwalk will sell leftovers at a discount, good way to get some late night eats.

I must say I had my head sink into my hands in disbelief when my sister picked me up at the airport, we start the car and the first song coming on was Pokerface... and my sister turning it up all excited and my niece yell from the back seat Lady Gaga!!! Yay!!!
Needless to say, I have yet to hear any decent music here.
:wacko::sad:

I am excited about the upcoming trip to the lake though.

Does the chamber of commerce have a website? I would start there.

Black Whale, Sea Shell, Engleside.

I'm heading to France for a wedding next week, but we're spending the first 3 days in Barcelona. I'm so pumped.

Is there anything anyone can recommend that I have to see while in Barcelona?

just don't fly air france, I can guarantee you they will misplace your luggage... if not even the entire airplane

True that. A co-worker of mine asked for the vouchers before flying with Air France, assuring then that they'd lose his luggage. Sure enough, they lost it.

I just found out that I am most likely going to Panama and Columbia, with a day in Mexico - I have never been south of the boarder, so I really hope I get to go. Panama/ Mexico I would do some hardcore fishing, while my father does some business. and visit family in Columbia (my family has no idea why my uncle would want to live in Columbia)

Good luck Wampus. I'd be scared as hell that I would be kidnapped in any of those places, especially Columbia.

We're going to a wedding soon in San Diego. We'll only have one day to sightsee but any suggestions? We're not renting a car so I'm ruling out the zoo and Sea World. I'm talking about the downtown area. Romantic restaurant suggestions are welcome as well!

British Airways and Iberia, which are almost as bad as AF.

My friend went down to Columbia two years ago and loved it. He's been itching to go back.

Thanks AJ, I'm staying right in that area so it shouldn't be hard to find something to do. I'm thinking of taking a water taxi to Coronado Island as well.

Me and wife went to Royal Hideaway in Playa for honeymoon in 07. Great trip. Food, service, pool all great. Erosion has eaten away at beach. Only drawback. I highly recommend it.
