Considering the last 2 Smashing Pumpkins albums (I'm including the online-only one in that) sucked, Zwan was average at best, Corgan's solo album was one of the most hideous pieces of "music" ever dumped on an unsuspecting public and Billy is one of the douchiest douches who ever douched who alienates anyone talented away from him (with the exception of Jimmy Chamberlain), I don't really have high hopes.

I'm glad to hear that Smashing Pumpkins have a new album in the works. One of my favourite bands growing up. Will it be the original lineup? The only album that I consider weak would be Ava Adore, and that is because Jimmy Chamberin was not on the drums for that album.

I take back what I said about Ava Adore a couple hours ago. I just spent the night listening to all the old Pumpkins albums and it was a pretty good album. After Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness came out the band said that they wanted to go a different direction with the electronic music. It only really lasted the one album.

I love all the singles and ep's that they used to put out. I have 17 cd's worth of officially released material and 2 more when you add Machina II.

Spot on Mojo, spot on. Crumpets for all.

They are successful artists, that have been making music for a long time. Let them keep pumping out things as long as they feel like it. Maybe they got bored with what they were doing and had to go in a different direction for a while. I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

I really don't see how this is suddenly going to be any different just because of a name change. Sometimes it's best for acts to go out on top...or at least close enough to it that people can forget the crap at the end. Reunions rarely produce good music. I'd say the two groups that somehow bucked that trend are Mission of Burma and the Go-Between. Everyone else...not so much. It would be cool if he went out and just toured as the Pumpkins, a la the Pixies. Just stay away from trying to "recapture the magic" or some shit.

The music that Corgan has worked on since the last Pumpkins album has been a letdown. I didn't really like Zwan that much and Billy's solo album stunk except for a couple songs. This is all the more reason to do another SP album.

I don't expect "Zeitgeist" to bring the band a whole new generation of fans but the Smashing Pumpkins fans around the world, including myself, are looking forward to hearing what the band can put out. It sounds like it will just be Billy and Jimmy Chamberlin from the original lineup but all Corgan needs to make a Pumpkins album is Jimmy anyway.
