I was talking to this girl I work with today about colds, and she mentioned something her mom used to do when she would get fevers when she was little. My mom did same thing. If I had a fever she would take rubbing alcohol and rub it on my forehead and face, then on my arms. I used to remember it always hurting when she did the arms because my muscles would get all sore. My mom would also <br />do the Vicks Vapo Rub and wrap a towel around my neck.

This wasn't for colds, but my mom used to give me a spoonful of cod liver oil every day.&nbsp; It's the grossest shit imaginable.&nbsp; I can still taste it just by thinking about it.&nbsp;

Shot of Whiskey.&nbsp; Then again, us Irish take a shot of Whiskey for most ailments, especially broken hearts.

Chicken noodle soup. Orange juice. Aspirin. And for a good night's sleep a shot-glass of Nyquil. And yeah...breathing in steam from various sources...shower, kettle, whatever.

For an ear ache, my mom would pour some hydrogen peroxide into my ear canal and it would foam.
Once I had what felt like an air bubble in my ear and my mother made a cone of wax paper and put it into my ear and set it on fire! The fire drew the air out of my ear and it worked and I didnt burn my hair.
My father used to use brioski (sp?) for upset stomachs, or bromoseltzer.

I forgot this was suppose to be for colds. My mom used to make chicken soup, or lentil soup. I found if you get Wendys chili and hot sauce, that it makes colds go away faster!

My mom did the same thing and one more little remedy: She would also put salt in the vaporizer, and make me gargle with hot tap water with salt.

(I think she would come in my room when I was asleep and pour salt on me-ENOUGH ABOUT THE SALT!)

my mother believed that warm orange juice would cure a cold & sore throat much the same as warm milk makes you drowsy.
so as a child, i had to be subjected to having my held held while my mother poured warm orange juice (warmed in a sauce pan, not just room temperature) down my throat.
