View Full Version : Sundays SUCK!!!!!!

Today is Sunday, which means I have to go the job I fucking hate....All day I mentally prepare myself for it. I also hurt my knee last night and I have turned into gimpy gimperton because of it.

I cant "not go", because my boss thinks that even if you are dead or in the process of dieing you should still be there. I'm seriously contemplating murder at this point.

My job is not the typical type of retail job etc. I would be considered a "Personal Assistant" of sorts. I help a crazyold lady get her life in order, I cook and clean for her, and keep her company. Everyone always says: "It's an easy job, whats the problem?", Its all the emotional shit, she picks me apart, shes older, (69) and thinks she knows EVERYTHING, and constantly tells me what I should or should not do. She also makes it a point every week to tell me how my boyfriend should grow up and be a man, and ask me to marry him already. It's just too much, she annoys me, and even though I shouldnt really reveal this, she lives like she has nothing, but has millions. Speaking as a person who is a little wierd with germs (I have a touch of OCD), she is, by far, THE DIRTIEST, GROSSEST PERSON I HAVE EVER COME IN CONTACT WITH. All that for someone who had a great education, finishing school, etc. She is also the most selfish, self important person I have met, she is the only one that is allowed to hurt, or have feelings. Her husband died about a year and a half ago, ( I feel bad about that, but he was a miserable fuck), and she still has a hard time with it. She also treats me as a slave, she says she loves me, and I am like her kid (she had no children of her own, her husband wouldnt allow it). There are times where I can see that she cares about me, but the other times she's brutal.

If I had her money and my drunkard cheating husband was dead, I would be living it up, instead she just stays in bed except for work Monday through Friday. She wont cook or clean for herself, and all she does is feel sorry for herself and her situation. Yet she made the life that she hates so much. So fucked up on so many levels, this little synopsis of whats going on is only the tip of the iceberg. The situation makes me fucking insane.

The only reason I havent bailed, is that IT'S GOOD MONEY. Off the books, two nights a week, I sleep over there, so those two days equals about 30 to 32 hours depending on the week. I go to school full time and this two days a week is ideal, I could NEVER work full time and go to school full time, call me a pussy or whatever, I just couldnt. I am not 19 anymore, so certain things arent as easy as they used to be. I feel as if I am backed up against a wall.

What kind of shit do you guys think of doing to get out of work, and what shit annoys you about your job?

i dont miss days of work. i dont call in sick, sick or not. i go in no matter what. sorry. i do know how you feel. i hate my job and think it is killing me. i curse the alarm clock every morning when it goes off. i hate sundays because it means i am going to work tomorrow.

good luck.

Wow. Sounds like you have your hands full with that one, kiddo. This woman is obviously severely depressed and hopefully she's sought some kind of treatement for her mental illness. If not, she'll live out the rest of her days in a pretty unfulfilling manner.

Have you ever asked her if she's tried to improve her current situation? I know you don't want to pry, but it sounds like you two have something more than an employee/boss relationship. She's not acting the way she does for any rational reason. See if you can convince her that there's many reasons for her to continue living and not merely existing.

As far as my job situation, it's gone to hell ever since last year. On January 1, 2006 the company I work for was bought by a corporation out in Chicago. They've never been to our facility, don't know anything about us or our customers, but make changes based on strictly financial data.

It's frustrating and infuriating all at the same time. My loyalty to my customers is the only thing that gets me out of bed every day.

My boss is a lazy ass who never approves anything we need until its too late, and would rather go to a rotary meeting during business hours than make a tough decisoin

My boss is also very image conscious and is strict with any reps appearance. I sometimes try to pick fight during hockey so I can receive a black eye, just to piss him off.

alot of guys on the board are dying to get laid. maybe you can let a few in the door to give this lady a quickie, you know " make her day "

i been working at a "major corporation"(makes me feel like i'm on a gameshow) for the past almost 19 years and the first year or two I felt bad about taking a sick day. Then i saw everyone else taking their allotted amount of sick days and i said "what am i an asshole?" and have taken every sick day i am given since.

when the corporation decides they want to cut budgets believe me, your dedication to not taking sick days will get you nothing...

I told my boss a couple weeks ago that I cannot ever remember taking a sick day for actually being sick, and it's true. I've been pretty lucky and when I am sick I like to go to work because i think it makes an impression towards showing some dedication(stupid logic i know)

so remember to leave that door open Gaia, we'll make it worth her while -lol

My job also "rewards" you 1 paid day off if you don't use your 3 sick days per quarter. I find that insane, that you get 1 paid day for not using your 3 paid days.

Gaia, up until about a month ago I was a full time nanny, so I know how emotionally draining your type of job can be. I can't seem to put two words together right now so I'll spare you the boring details of their disfunctional lives. But know that I understand where you're coming from having to work so closely and intimately with your employer. When you 'live' with your employer(s) you see EVERYTHING and that makes it difficult to step back and be professional when the very employer drags you into their wretched lives.

Right now it seems your only saving grace with Ms. Old Lady Craptree is that she pays you well.. so stick it out until you're finished with school. And don't feel bad that you're not working full-time AND going to school full-time. You know how much you can handle and to try and attempt anything more would only backfire. I was the opposite in that I worked full time but went to school part time. So no shame in that Gaia, that's what happens when we don't get scholarships and mommy and daddy can't foot our tuition. I managed to make a little nest egg while I was working but it's being depleted so damn I need a job! I should've taken my own advice but I felt trapped. I consider it all life lessons and the fact that you're trying to deal with this woman in the most humane way is only a testament to your good character... it's so cliche but it's true: That Which Doesn't Kill Us Only Makes Us Stronger.

I don't feel like going into anymore detail right now but if you need to vent or just wish to share stories my PM is always open.

Would she include you in her will ?

If so I say maybe a pillow over the head or an " accident " down the stairs could free up those Sundays for you.

If you are looking at some future compensation it may be worth it to stick it out.

Did you work for her when the husband was alive ?

Do some Motivational Interviewing, IMR, reflective listening and all that mumbo jumbo psychological stuff.

Heck, maybe see envies you somewhat. You're young, independent, intelligent, and hot. Sure she has alot of money, but she's an old fart and is going to croak soon anyway (hopefully she'll mention you in her will). She probably has alot of regrets in her life, depressed cause her husband died, has no kids or nothing to look forward to in the afterlife, after she's gone what mark has she left?

And for being annoyed at her for talking about your life issues, that has to do with you. Who the fuck cares what she thinks, unless you're unsure yourself. That's why it annoys you somewhat.

Is she taking any medications????
