Im surprised there are still people that dont use bittorrent. ive been using it basically, when it first starting getting big, back when you had to email the torrent file to the admin of suprnova. but i gotta suggest an easier client to use is bittornado, but utorrent is better. figure it out, find your way to invite only sites and have access to mostly anything you can think of.

peace.

1. Save the torrent file.

2. Open the torrent file. (This will point your torrent software, such as utorrent, to download the actual movie files.

3. After you have downloaded the movie, look in the folder that your torrent software saves to. Open the folder for the movie that you downloaded.

4. Open one of the many files in that folder. This should open in WinRar (You need winrar, or other unzipping software).

5. Press the "Extract All" button. This will prompt you to save the file to somewhere of your choosing. Save it outside of the default folder. If you don't do this, you will save the compiled movie file into the folder that other people are downloading off of your machine, which will screw it up.

6. After it is all extracted, you should have the compiled file, all saved nice and cozy on its own. If you downloaded a DVD-Rip movie, you will have a file that should be recognized by Win Media Player, or some other player. If you downloaded a DVD-Replica, you will have a file that can either be burned to a DVD, or if you want to play it on your computer, you will need a drive emulator, such as Daemon Tools.

Torrent files are just the information needed to download the file you want. A torrent downloading program, opens the torrent file, then finds other people over the internet that have the file you want that are making it available to upload. Once you start downloading a file from a torrent downloader, you are getting different pieces of the file from different people, until the entire file is complete, while you are downloading it, other people are downloading the same file from you even if it isn't complete. Once finished downloading, you can leave it there and make it available for others to download off of you (seeding).

Installation of some programs can be tricky if you have a router (you have to open up ports and allow it to run with your firewall, and if you have a few files downloading, and uploading at the same time, it kills your bandwidth.

So: Torrent File - Information needed to download the actual file you want
Leechers - Other people downloading the same file but do not have it completely downloaded yet (you can still download pieces from them)
Seeders - Other people that have the entire file you are trying to download and have it available for you to download.
Make sure when you search for torrents, you look for the one with highest amounts of seeders and leechers for quicker downloads.

I search for torrents here http://www.thepiratebay.org Once people download torrents from here, they can leave comments about the file, so you can read about them, and what other people are saying, so you can be sure it's good quality if it's audio/video. You can also make sure that the file is virus/trojan free

Use this as my torrent downloader. Azureus (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/download.php) I would go with version 2.5. 3.0 might be good, but when I've tried it I didn't like it.

If you search for " axxo " at thepiratebay.org they usually have movies available for download 2-4 weeks before they come out on dvd at great quality.

Hope this helps

That information would have been useful 8 months ago, when the question was asked. The person who asked isn't even around any more.

Me.

(But in Journeyman style.
Since he apparently already downloaded some torrents):

Why is it that Ive never been able to download a complete torrent file?
It seems to take days and days. yes, DAYS...just to get 20 %.

Is it simply that my puter sucks, or do i need to change some settings?
(i have verizon dsl).

Journeyman editing too!: Fallon, I always select the one with the most stars and number of peers, or whatever.
I really gave up on torrents awhile ago, so i'm rusty with the language. But if I get help, I may try again.

Maybe the files you want aren't popular enough? It'll download a lot faster if other people are sharing.

which sites are you using? also, does your internet also stop working when this happened or can you still surf other sites at normal speeds?

And besides the number of peers, peers are split into Seeders and Leechers. Are there alot of Seeders on the files?

Yes I can still surf, altoo I try not to cuz I dont wanna interrupt the torrents. It probably doesnt matter, but its more psychological than anything. So, yes, my internet stays on.
Altho overnight, torrents will just stop and never start again. sometimes. other times, just friggin slow.

And yeah, the site i went to lists them as best first, so more users and peers, and more seeds. i dont recall any leechers.

ive tried a few. bittorrent, torrents, and torrentspy are some i recall.

If this isnt a common problem, then im sure its my puter.

Do you use a router Officer Tazealot? If you are, torrents can overload it and it will freeze up. You would have to unplug it for a sec to reboot it.

These ones are notorious for that:

Torrentspy no longer functions for American based ISPs evidently.

I was a torrent idiot until last week. Tried for the first time and downloaded Season 2 of Life on Mars... Fortunately they were like AVI files or something recognizable. The DVD burning software worked like a charm to convert and burn to a DVD. Very sweet.

Dola Might is correct. Linksys routers, especially the G routers, have a major problem with torrents. if you are using this router you need to make some config changes to your bittorrent client.

i use Azereus as my client. i think it is by far the best one out there. very configurable and reliable. you should check it out if you are not using it already.

I loved Azureus until I used utorrent. utorrent is much better. Plus, its not nearly the memory hog that azureus is.

But utorrent was bought out by Bittorrent and discontinued

Really? I still use it and get updates and everything. Can you just not dl it anymore or something?
