Inductees include Michael Irvin, Thurman Thomas, Bruce Matthews, Charlie Sanders, Roger Wehrili, and Gene Hickerson.

The big name is irvin and there is a lot of people that are unhappy because of irvin's drug use in the past but if you look at what irvin did on the field he definatly deserves it.

Yeah, it still befuddles me why Art Monk isn't in the Hall. I dunno, it seems like a no-brainer to me. I'm too lazy to pull his stats, but I can't imagine they're short of HOF material. It's a real noodle scratcher.

A complete and utter disgrace about James Arthur Monk...

He gets passed over for not only James Lofton, but also for a guy who was a drug addict and a thug, who made his entire career through using the push off

Unbelievable...a complete sham and travesty

The fact that Michael Irvin is in and Art Monk is not is well quite frankly "criminal". I know that Irvin has the stats and the rings, blah blah blah, but Art Monk was a role model off and on the field for some of the greatest Redskins teams ever. He held then league records for most receptions in a season 106 in 1984. Had five 1000+ yd seasons and in a 14 yr career. In nine of those seasons he head 50 or more catches. AND a 15.5 yd playoff average with 7 touchdowns. He was a quiet no nonsense "prototypical" NFL receiver of the game. 6'3 210 lbs posessing good speed and quickness, coupled with sure hands and precision route running, helped him achieve a then NFL record 164 consecutive games with at leat one reception. Quiet, consistant and professional. I guess those kind of things don't count for much in our highlight hungry ESPN, gotta have it now sports world. I seem to remember a time when that stuff counted for something. Like I said, criminal simply criminal.

edited for speling errors by mr fatty fingers cant spel.
Let us be reminded that you are voted in to the hall for your play on the field, not your off the field conduct. I'm sure Irvin isn't the only guy who used drugs tomake the hall. Also please don't take away from Irvin, just because Monk deserves in. By the way, I'm an Eagle fan an hated Irvin, so this pains me to write.

Agreed. And it's not like Irvin got in there at the expense of Art getting in. Both deserve to be there.
Yeah I should have stated a little more clearly Irvin has the statistics to be in by all rights. He does have the Stats and the Rings to back it up. Art getting passed over is bullshit though. He had pretty damn good stats in an era that ball control, led by the NFC East, dominated the 80S and early 90s. Hell, I LIKE Michael Irvin on TV, I liked him on FOX Best Damn Sports Show in the beginning of his career. I just am stating that if you let Irvin in and continue to pass over Monk, it is a crime.

But being a role model doesnt get you into the hall of fame. When it comes to the hall I think its about stats and winning, mostly stats. Michael Irvin deserves to be in the hall.

I despise the Redskins...but Art Monk belongs in the Hall of Fame. There is no excuse for this latest snub.

12720 career yards, 940 receptions, 13.5 ypc avg, 68 td's, Top 10 in receptions 4 times with one first place finish, Top 10 in total yards 3 times, only one top 10 finish in td's. Career postseason: 69 receptions, 1062 yds, 7 td's and 2 Super Bowl rings. And plus he passes the gut test, i.e. your first reaction when you hear his name is yes, he should be in the hall. We should start a movement, or join one if there's already one started.

And just for the record:

Joe Gibbs, Hall of Fame inductee

"He was big, he was strong, and he was intelligent. He had everything."

"I can't see how a receiver could be more valuable to a team."

Charlie Casserly

"There was never a classier player in this franchise's history, or in league history, than Art Monk. You always knew the team would be getting Art Monk's best effort day in and day out."

Bill Parcells, 1995

"Monk is headed to Canton downhill on roller skates"

Joe Theismann

"Art was Jerry Rice before Jerry Rice was."

"Spend a day with Art Monk, and your life will improve by 10%"

Ronnie Lott, HOF inductee

"Art Monk was an example for Jerry Rice. Few players have been able to achieve what he's achieved."

Thomas Loverro, Washington Times

"He embodied the old school, and for that alone he should be enshrined so that when a father takes his son through the Hall of Fame, he can say, "Son, here is a man who once caught 106 passes in a season when no one was catching 100 passes. Here was a man who caught a pass in 183 straight games. And not once did he ever pull a cell phone out to make a call after any of those catches."

Bill Polian, President Indianapolis Colts

"I believe he's a Hall of Famer. I was a pro scout when he was playing, so it was my job to know who those guys were. I would put Art in that category, but apparently there are a lot of Hall of Fame voters who don't feel Art Monk was in that category. It's hard for me to believe they ever saw him play."

How did Paul Tagliabu (sp) not make it on the first ballot? The NFL would be nothing like it is today without him.
