Come on guys. Usually i'm your advisary but calm down its not even through the first week yet. Those Japs play most of the time indoors so he's probably not used to cold weather. Didn't he get the record for most K's in a season in the JPL last year?

The Yankees are d-sippers so far this year. I guess we won't go 160-2 like I had hoped.

That should buy A-Rod about a month of good will. If he keeps its up, he'll be on every billboard by the end of the year.
I was listening on the radio, so I dont know if this was shown on TV. But Suzyn Waldman said the guy who pushed A-Rod out of the dugout for the curtain call was . . . . . . . . . . . . Derek Jeter. You know, because these two hate each other.

i didnt see the play, but i am trying to think of a situation where a shortstop would be covering second when a ground ball was hit to third, and i can only think of a shift situation which shouldn't be the case aginst the o's. if you could describe what you are talking about i would appreciate it

I can't remember the play exactly, but the people were perplexed why Jeter was going to cover third instead of second, and what Cano was doing. It was early in the game last night.
I want to say man on first, and a hard bunt for a sacrifice. A-Rod charged but there was still time to get the runner at second because of how hard the bunt was hit, but no one was covering at second.

there are a couple situations as to why jeter might've been at third as opposed to second, but i promise you it hard nothing to do with him thinking he will make a throwing error.
i actually started to type out the situations where jeter would not be responsble for covering second, and it looked like a staples post, so i erased it.

wouldn't cano cover 2nd and jeter cover third to make sure the baserunner didn't advance to third on the put-out, with a-rod pulled out of position by the bunt (assuming the 1B didn't charge and could cover first)?
I should also point out that Jeter covered third instead of second during last night's game because he immediately assumed A-Rod was going to make a throwing error.
Jeter should be worrying about his own defense at this point. Besides the errors his throws have been shaky, he's been bobbling grounders and throws and his range has been worse than usual. It's just four games but A-Rod has been much more steady defensively than Jeter so far.

it depends on how the were set up to defend the play.
but assuming the first baseman was anchoring then yes cano should be at second and jeter made the correct play. if both corners were charging and the thirdbaseman fielded the ball with just a man on first then the catcher should cover third, shortstop at second, and secondbase at first.

exactly, its 4 games in.........if that were the case Jeter would be on pace to commit something like 243 errors this season. its so early, all u want right now is to gather your bearings, shake off the spring training feeling and the cobwebs, and hopefully trying and string together some wins.

I agree with HHH lets over analize every aspect of the last 4 games and project them out over the entire season. After last years playoffs how can you worry about anything so early. The Cardinals were shit and they won it all. I'm not worring for at least 4 months.

yeah, from what was said, it sounds like jeter wasn't on the same page as the rest of the infield.
Even considering its only four games out here's what I'm worried about:
Igawa: I didn't like his signing and little I saw today encouraged me. The only thing I liked is that his line was worse than it should have been. He almost got out of a bases loaded, no outs jam without a run scoring. It was just really bad luck that he forced a pop up with two outs that found a hole and cleared the bases. But he better work on that control or teams will be taking him deep all season.
Mussina: What worries me about Mussina was his velocity. He was rarely over 85 his entire start. I hope that's just rust and age but at his age that's no given.
Other than that there's plenty of time to work out the problems. The bullpen has been great. It's looking really deep this year. Hopefully they can start getting some rest soon.

I agree on Igawa. His M.O. is to have lots of baserunners, and he gets out of jams with strikeouts. That may work in Japan, but I'm not sure you can get away with having that many baserunners all the time in the MLB and I doubt highly he'll strike out as many here. So his formula may simply not add up here as a starter. Maybe as a lefty reliever, which Cashman hinted at when he signed him.
On Mussina, Kay was saying that he felt he ran out of gas at the end of last year, so he decided to not work as hard in spring training this year to pace himself better. We'll see.

04-08-2007, 01:14 PM
tough loss today, but it wasn't without some bright spots. a rod hit another home run giving him the best start of his career. andy pettitte pitched an inning in relief and looked very good despite walking a batter. the bullpen had another good game only giving up 1 run and keeping the yanks in it the whole time.
however, i am not happy with the shaky fielding cano missed a routine fly ball that cost a run. also the starting pitching hasn't made it into the 6th inning yet for the first time in yankee history. hopefully they go to minnesota and play better in the warm dome.
its so early that i am not at all worried, but would like to see them turn it around asap.
Question........ WHAT THE FUCK IS CANO DOING, BATTING AFTER AWFUL PHELPS??
TORRE IS BACK!
The only thing Phelps can do is hit lefties while Cano sucks vs. lefties.
It's not even close really. We're talking a .894 OPS vs. a .680 OPS.

That's easy... CP had long rest.. but due to the rain outs.. AP and MM did not. So that means, If CP went yesterday, Then AP would have to go today.. On short rest.. Then MM tomorrow, on short rest... So that is why DR went over CP, Yesterday. BTW i am loving this initial thing.. Thanks Crips!!

Dude, stop... If you watched any Yankee games the past 2 years... You would know that anything not hit directly to Sheffield.. Was a fucking hit... He had no range what so ever.. Hence, why d fucking troit, made him a DH... And Abreu not only has a great arm, but he is an above avg fielder.. And at the plate, he is a perfect fit for us.. He is a pitcher killer.. His on base is always above 400.. Never K's.. You as a sox fan should have learned that.. He killed your pitchers.. He took an avg of 9 pitches during that series on fenway, and had a ridiculous on base.. Not to mention huge hits.. Honestly dude, do you watch any games?? Or do you like being antagonistic, just to be antagonistic.. It really makes you look like you have no clue what so ever about baseball.

pavano is a great pitcher. people forget that because well, they haven't seen him pitch in about 2 years. if he can stay healthy though expect him to win about 15 games. i said it before and people here thought i was crazy. god i wish he would have been healthy the last 2 years and wright have been on the dl.

did you say he was a "great " pitcher? Calm down. He had 2 godd seasons in a 9 year career. 2.999 era and 3.062 the other years his era was in the mid to high 4's a 5 and a 6 era. Thats not a great pitcher. Hes a bum, all you can hope for is a full season of avg pitching. If he can give you that and the yanks continue to hit (they should) you will get some wins 12-15 does sound right but b/c of the team not because he can pitch.

OK well, thats different. Its just that (and I explained this already) when I brought up trading Pavano thing it was before spring training games had even started, it was a topic discussed by Sweeney Murti on WFAN and it was just something to kick around while nothing else was going on. And people are still bringing it up as if I was on a soapbox about it.
BTW-Nobody else even replied to my post, and even debated me about it. So if anyone was so sure Pavano was going to do well, you should have stuck your neck out then. After he throws a great start its a little too easy to try look smart now.

i dont think anybody was sure of anything. the only thing i WAS sure of is I hadnt seen enough of him in a Yankee uniform to judge what type of pitcher he can be for this team. And in all honesty I still can't, but people judging him based on limited performance is what is bothersome.

Captain April is setting himself up for opting out after this year. How can't he? With the way salarys are now he'd get substantially more money getting a new contract. The better he performs the more attractive he's going to look. And even if you yankee fans want him he'll talk about how he want's to stay in the Bronx and that it's up to George if he's going to be back. Opinions?

It really depends on his oct... If he has a huge Oct, and wins a WS.. I feel he is stupid to leave.. He will never be targeted again, And he will be in the biggest city, with the premiere team in sports.. What athlete will want to throw that away.. Not to mention breaking the most beloved record in American sports, as a clean athlete, and probably taking it from maybe the dirtiest, and most hated athlete ever, in Bonds... I think its a no brainier, if he does well, in a WS win..

I hope Arod leaves, he should he is so unappreciated in NY. He will always be looked at as a "non" True Yankee. He is one of my all time favorites. He's going to Chicago. He love Lou and if he goes to the cubs he probably go back to ss. But even if he plays 3rd he will be a beast at the plate in that ball park. As soon as he gets the #3 cubs jersey I will buy it!!!

He's always been captain april or may whichever you choose. Calling certain posters yankee lemmings is an homage to the fact that certain people can't make logical if not critical commentary about the team that they love so much. They are the kind of fan that goes on FAN whining that Arod isn't loved and that "AP" will have 15+ wins because he WAS a great yankee. If you put yourself in that category then yeah you are a lemming but I'm guessing you have more common sense than that.

You have been proven wrong on your statements by facts, 3 times in the past 24 hours... one on Sheffield, then Abreu.. Then you joke about our team spending money on a money pitcher.. When your team spent 34mil a year on 2 (Drew Lugo) players that have not shown they should earn that money.. And your calling us unbiased?? When was the last time you made a anti Redsox comment?? To you they have won every game ever, and have never made a bad move.

1. Johnny Damon was a BAD move. That really hurt us as it is apparent that Coco is a midwest type player. He's not cut for the big time. It's going to be a tough bridge to Ellsbury.
2. Lack of middle relief. Who the hell are these guys. Bullpen by commitee didn't work in 03 and i won't work now. We're going to need lots of 7 innning games from our starters.
3. JD Drew. His contract magnifies the Damon debacle so much it's painful.
4. Lugo. 4 seasons 4 different starting ss's. Pathetic. what was wrong with OC? I heard last week that even more amazing was the fact that in the last 15 opening days we've had 13 different starters at 2nd base. And Bellhorn was the lucky 2 year player.

See, that is better.. You just come into Yankee threads just to antagonize.. We do not mind anti Yankee comments.. Its fine, its your opinion. But that is all you do.. Its never counterd by any facts, or stats.. Its just snide comment and your out.. At least when Spoon comes in and spews his Yankee hate.. Look, we can be dicks also.. We know that.. But most of us, when we come to poke fun at the sox.. Its basically more centered to friends, and people we know for awhile like Bobby Fallon, Snoogans, AJ.. and so on.., And we know how they take it. But when we have a point to make, we usually try to back it up with stats.. But with You.. it just feels like you just antagonize.. Boondock, Cauger, and some other Met fans, and of course Spoon post a lot of anti Yankee things. But we know them.. They may joke around, but when we bring up facts to them, they say, yea thats right.. So when they do joke around, we know it is just that.. And we just take it in good humor... You just came in gangbusters one day, and just decided to bombard us with childish anti Yankee posts... Back some shit up with facts.. Make valid statements, then when you do fuck around, we take it as that.

No, they still would have lost. Outside of Jeter in Game 1, nobody hit much in that series. The starting pitching didn't help a whole lot either.

I've heard a few people say he has a huge postseason and they win the WS. However, from a financial standpoint it makes even more sense for him to leave. He can use that to pull even more money out of another team. He can also say he "proved" he could play in the pressure of NY, so people couldn't throw that in his face if he left.
A-Rod's past shows he's all about getting the biggest paycheck for himself. Personally, I have no problem with that, but it points to him leaving at the end of the season.

Anytime someone's trying to explain that the ability to throw hard doesn't equal success in the majors, they should just show video of Kyle Farnsworth.
Well, both he and Proctor has not reach their velocity yet.. YES was talking about how they both were only going 90-92. Where proctor can go up to 97, and Farnsworth 100... Hard throwing RP, take a while to gain full velocity at the start of the year.

Month-by-Month ERA's from last season:
April: 2.89
May: 5.52
June: 5.25
July: .87
August: 6.23
September: 3.60
April was his second strongest month, behind the fluky July he had. So, I don't think the start of the season has a ton to do with it.
He throws hard, but dead straight. Major League hitters can hit 100 mph fastball that doesn't move.

Ehhh, that is iffy.. Every time i see Farnsworth.. His Fastball does not usually get hit.. He gets in trouble when he starts nibbling, and falls in love with his slider.. His fastball, is not the problem..

So he was nibbling for 3 months, and challenging hitters with his fastball the other 3?

Lets put it this way.. He is frustrating to watch.. He blows people away for 2 strikes, then Nibbles and all of a sudden its 3-2... Its like What Mussina does.. except, Farnsworth throws like 10mph harder. He usualy gets him with the FB when he HAS to throw it, because he nibbled to 3-2.. And Yes, his is straight, so when you know its coming, you can hit it.

farnsworth lacks confidence when he is up there. he just looks so nervous

While he does nibble, I have still seen his fastball get hit on a number of occasions. There were questions about Farnsworth playing in NY, and pitching against AL (particularly AL East) teams. So, the Yankees had to know there was a chance he would be hit or miss when they signed him. In their defense, I don't recall any better option being available.

Yea it was either him or Gorden... So... well, you know...

I'm not even sure they could have re-signed Gordon, since he wanted to close again. Plus, would you really want to go back to NY after being pitched into the ground by your manager?

yes, his fastball is the problem. when you continue to leave it out over the plate like he did last night it doesnt matter how hard you throw because major leaguers can hit it. he will continue to get tagged if he doesnt learn to locate better.

Yea, his location is pretty awful at times also.. But thats also because he has to throw so many for strikes because he nibbles to 3-2 so much. But last night he was terrible.
Phil Hughes update: Pitched tonight; 5 IP, 5 runs. Game was called after 5.
He's gonna need some time in AAA.

I think theyre at oakland coming up, if so they suck as much for me as they do for you east coast people. I'll be able to track the first couple of innings from 6-7 am and any 1pm games will start at midnight for me. Anyway nothing would make me happier then for A-Rod to shut me up and have a big clutch year so props to Mr walk off grand slam.

Torre just sad on Mike and The Mad Dog, Pavano will be pushed back to Tuesday, because of discomfort in his forearm.. Torre said that it was just overly sore, because he had not pitched that much in a while, He did not think it was a biggie..Also, Karstans will go tommorow..

Another Farnsworth eat dick outing
Until, or unless, he gets his velocity back he's a disaster waiting to happen. Proctor's lost some velocity too but he's dealing with it much better than Farnsworth.

Only 107 pitches.
2 walks in one game for Cano? That has to be some kind of record.

that is impressive. good for him. It isnt just the Yanks that pull pitchers early and rely on the bullpen more and more, it is the whole league. I see why they do it, i just dont like it.

B, You know it was damn funny.
Andy Phillips? At least Mientkievicz can play defense and Phelps can occasionally hit. Phillips is like the worst parts of each of them combined.

Reason I asked was there was a guy I knew way, WAY back in the day (we're talking dialups and BBSs) who you shared a screen name with. Big Yankee fan, lived in Jersey, we went to high school together.

Andy showed a pretty good glove last year.. And not great, but Representative at bats.. Meinky has the glove.. But Phelps has show neither..

That too of course.. Good eye, JBL, GOOD EYE!!
Once Matsui gets back and they plunk the pathetic platoon in the 9th spot it won't matter much. Although if you really want to max out this lineup you put Giambi at first, DH Matsui and put Melky in left. Giambi has much better numbers playing first, Matsui has marginally better numbers when he DHs and Melky is clearly superior to either Phelps or Mientkievicz offensively and Matsui defensively. And you can always replace Giambi late in the game with Mientkievicz.
But what do I know?
Kevin
04-14-2007, 07:41 PM
Phillips had 7 E's in 94 games at 1B last year, A 988 Feilding perc..If you avg it out t 162 games.. That would be what?? 12 E's?? Thats not terrible...

And he can't hit anything other than a fastball. Mientkievicz is a better player, and at least he has some history of producing some offense. Phelps should only play against lefties and if he does he's a much better hitter than Phillips.

Well, if Phellps does not start hitting in a couple weeks, Something has to e done.. At least Meinky gives you great D.. If Phelps can't hit.. He is useless...
I'd much rather just say "FUCK IT" and see what Eric Duncan can do before bringing up Phillips again.
Two walks in two nights for Cano? Holy shit. If he can start drawing some walks he's gonna raise him game to another level.

0-22 is that like 6 games. Make that 0-23.
At this point there are 3 first baseman on the roster who can't hit shit and Mientkievicz is the only one coming close to getting a hit.
