Ugly...Thanks for the update though.
It's literally the same paint scheme without the stylized 8 and "E" on the sides, and instead of the Budweiser script logo, it's the bowtie.
They had to do it to differentiate from Jr's paint scheme. So I understand.
1:30 PM will be the Junior press conference revealing # and paint scheme.

Busch (or whatever it will be called next year) will be worth something in 2009:

M&M's close to deal to replace Interstate Batteries for Busch (http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news?slug=ap-nascar-kybusch-sponsor&prov=ap&type=lgns)
The sponsorship would be a financial upgrade at JGR, which first partnered with Interstate 16 years ago. Interstate chairman Norm Miller is a close friend of Gibbs', and Miller funded the No. 18 to help Gibbs launch what was then a single-car team. Bobby Labonte (http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/nextel/drivers/2/;_ylt=Aj6a6ZCCRHIztOtMM0zdTe7Tv7YF) drove the car to a Cup championship in 2000.
But JGR rapidly expanded into a three-car operation, and Interstate could not financially compete with the big budgets of new Gibbs sponsors Home Depot and FedEx. But Gibbs continued to work with the company out of loyalty, even as Interstate began selling off races to other sponsors.
It's kind of sad, but hey... it's business. Nonetheless, modern NASCAR history owes a lot to Interstate.
Mr. Miller, I give you this...:thumbup:

The National Guard scheme is good looking. (Red white and Blue) - and definitely much better looking that any other National Guard schemes. (Biffle).
But the AMP scheme isnt' that great. The stylized numbers do not fit with the logos of either sponsor.
Someone brought up a great point. Dale is all about old school and retro. So why the hell didn't he try to retro-emulate DW's old Mountain Dew paint scheme?
I have a feeling the scheme will change. It feels to me that Hendrick has given Jr. the keys to the candy store.

NASCAR is a funny 'Sport.'
Its numerous contributions to our way of life are outweighed only by the length of the collective mullet that is the NASCAR fan-base.

Edwards and Roush each docked 25 points, crew chief fined 25K
Quote selected text Published September 25th, 2007 in NASCAR News
Carl Edwards was docked 25 points Tuesday because his race-winning car failed inspection at Dover International Raceway.
The penalty drops Edwards from third in the Chase for the championship standings to sixth. He’s now 28 points behind series leader Jeff Gordon.
Team owner Jack Roush, who celebrated his 100th win Sunday with Edwards’ victory, also was docked 25 owner points and crew chief Bob Osborne was fined $25,000.
Edwards’ No. 99 Ford was deemed to be too low following post-race inspection. Although NASCAR determined the height infraction was not intentional, the team still was penalized in accordance with NASCAR’s strict inspection policy.
Kyle Busch and Johnny Sauter received similar penalties when their cars failed inspection following the July race at New Hampshire. Tony Stewart’s car was too low following last week’s race in New Hampshire, but NASCAR ruled it was caused by race damage.
Edwards dominated the second half of Sunday’s race to score his third victory of the season. The win lofted him thick into the title hunt, just three points behind Gordon. Now he heads to Kansas Speedway mired in the middle of the cluttered standings.
The top six drivers are separated by 28 points.

14 hours to run a race that should have been called after the halfway point due to the rain delay.
And what was the call to finish the race under yellow? If it was because of the lack of lighting, then just call the race. That setup the Bif running out of gas but getting the win anyway.
Congrats to him, but where is the consistency in NASCAR's rulings?

Turned the race off and went to the bar and got drunk and watched football after Jr. lost his sixth motor.
You could tell in Jr.'s interview he's way ready to get the fuck away from DEI and their shitty fuckin' motors. Blowing 4 motors out of 7 in the same race is inexcuseble in my book.
I wonder if Rich Childress is having second thoughts about his partnership with DEI.

Great finish, I am a Gordon fan. It was very cool to see Jacques run a clean race. Class move of him moving to the back of the pack during the start of the race so he make laps and get a feel for the race. Finishing 21st is very good for his first cup race.
A friend of mine just got tickets for the busch race Friday night so I am going to my first race should be cool. He has a chance for tickets to the Nextel race so hopefully he will win those also.

I posted up on Nascar.com and talked about that. Somebody replied and said it was RCR's motors, not DEIs. I know it's a partnership, but the blocks and most of the work is out of the DEI shop. The RCR engine tuners are the ones who are trying to keep the pistons from grenading. They have an almost insurmountable challenge preventing that from happening.
Anyone have the contract details? Which engine shop is responsible for doing what tasks?

Just wait until he has the Hendrick ride next year. If he can't make it happen then, he's not the driver that people have him cracked up to be.
I like junior but his fans leave something to be desired. Maybe it's just because that there are so many of them and the bad apples seem to ruin the bunch. Maybe it's just the Bud thing. As a bartender I've always wondered if assholes are predetermined to like Budweiser...or is it that Budweiser turns people into assholes.
(He has to tell his fans to throw something soft like toilet paper instead of beer cans if someone else wins??? [at Talladega]) ...Cretans!

You are probably right. He does account for 80% of the souveneir sales for NASCAR, according to ESPN. That many fans makes for a lot of bad apples. The YouTube video is funny, but I always thought that could be just as appropriate for Jeff Gordon fans.
Maybe it's just the Bud thing. As a bartender I've always wondered if assholes are predetermined to like Budweiser...or is it that Budweiser turns people into assholes.
Fans like me aren't the assholes. I've always drank Budweiser, and am disappointed they didn't follow Dale. But very glad for Kasey Kahne, who should be a great represenative for the beer. A lot of people get real rowdy off of beer in general, not withstanding a particular brand like Budweiser. But for me, Budweiser makes me nice and mellow. When I used to drink tequila, I was a total asshole, and usually got my ass kicked by my friends for safety, because they didn't want me to get killed by the Navy Seal I usually went after in the bar after I got drunk off liquor.

Yeah, that's how we are. At least I am. But the weird part about it is, when his dad died, I walked away from NASCAR for the rest of the year, and only saw the Pepsi 400 when Dale Jr. won. It wasn't until the 2003 season I started watching NASCAR again, and 2004 when I officially said "baaaah" to Dale Jr.
And I've been at this since 1979.

Gordon fans, and Stewart fans are sheep as well. I agree. You're just not as likely to see them throwing stuff onto the track or pinned down by the local sherriffs at a race for fighting or something stupid!

Ironically, Gordon probably learned alot more from Earnhardt Sr. than junior did. He drives just like him [Sr.].
I loved watching the look on Senior fans faces when Jeremy Mayfield bumped the 3 out of the way with a lap to go at Pocono in '99 or 2000 to take the win. They were shocked like opie just jumped on their cake! and Senior's reaction was "I guess that's just racing." What a class act he was.

Buzz,
I have a feeling that you were among the first in Gordon's flock.
If you have any memory of Jeff with the 'stache, or of Jeff and his team trying to get a peek at what Terry's crew was doing to their corn flakes car on saturday evening...you are excluded from the sheep comment.

I always chuckle at seeing old footage of Gordon with the mustache. Good times. It kind of makes me think of how many 'seeds would look like normal members of society if they got rid of the bad stache.
That being said, a couple of things:
I am in 100% agreement that if Junior can't make it work with Hendrick next year, it's the driver, not the equipment. Although you can't argue that Junior's had lousy equipment this year plus he's working in a hostile environment. The sooner he cuts ties with Theresa, the better.
Although I will say this: Casey Mears is not that great of a driver and he still puts together solid runs in hendrick equipment. And junior was 150 points out of winning a championship last year. So we'll see.
And now, a short anecdote:
Whenever I go to Home Depot, I get a chuckle out of seeing the Coke machine with the outdated picture of Tony Stewart from when he was still racing Pontiacs.
Today as I was driving into work, I saw another Coke machine, which made me smile, because I thought it was the Tony Stwart one.
Nope.
It was Dale Earnhardt.
Senior.
Creepy.

There's one of those Dale Sr. machines in Smyrna, DE near Dover in a crappy welfare motel that they pack in on race weekend. (I had the misfortune of booking this place a few years back and whenever I go by it on a race weekend, I always look for the machine! It was there for the September race.)
I'm going to be pulling for the 5 and Casey next year. I was a terry labonte fan, and now that he's hung it up I really haven't really declared myself a fan of any one driver. Kyle Busch and the #5 don't go together. Can't come to like the guy. I'll be cheering for the 5 again next year. (as well as fellow Jersey guy Martin Truex Jr.)

I have a feeling that you were among the first in Gordon's flock.
If you have any memory of Jeff with the 'stache, or of Jeff and his team trying to get a peek at what Terry's crew was doing to their corn flakes car on saturday evening...you are excluded from the sheep comment.

that would be true..from Busch to current,I'm aware of the whinny bitch Jeffy has been and the crying when he won his first Winston Cup race...I also respect his driving ability...except for when Sr. was alive,he's had little to no competition. thought you'd appreciate this:

POSSIBLE SABOTAGE? (http://www.inrich.com/cva/ric/sports.apx.-content-articles-RTD-2007-10-29-0116.html)
Water had gotten into his fuel somehow, causing his car to sputter on the restart, piling up cars behind him and sending him to a 24th-place finish.
Samples from the car were taken to NASCAR, which also drew samples from the Sunoco fuel tanks at Atlanta Motor Speedway. No water was found in the samples from Sunoco, but both Hamlin's team and that of Dave Blaney had given samples to NASCAR.
"What you don't know is how the water got introduced," Nextel Cup Series Director John Darby said. The only thing NASCAR ruled out was that the water came from the pumps at the track. Hunter said they had not ruled out sabotage.

Kahne under investigation for shoving incident
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) -- Police are investigating an incident that took place Friday at Homestead-Miami Speedway involving NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne and an unidentified security guard.
A spokesman for Kahne said the Nextel Cup star was rushing to his motorhome in a secure lot at the track following Friday's final practice when he was stopped by the guard, who refused to let Kahne through the entrance without a credential.
Kahne, still in his driving uniform, attempted to walk around the guard and, according to the spokesman, the two bumped and, when Kahne turned around, the guard was on the ground.
Police were called and Kahne spent several minutes in handcuffs before being released. The security guard was checked and released at the infield medical center.
A police spokesman said the incident is under investigation by detectives and he was not at liberty to talk about specifics.
NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said the sanctioning organization was still gathering information on the incident and could not comment.
Kahne took part in Cup practices and the Busch Series race Saturday and will start Sunday's season-ending Ford 400 third in the 43-car field.

Hendrick offers Johnson lifetime contract
NASCAR Sprint Cup teams may cringe when they hear this: Jimmie Johnson has been offered a lifetime contract to stay at Hendrick Motorsports.
"And it's a lifetime contract with unlimited budget, right?" Johnson jokingly asked team owner Rick Hendrick after the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway last weekend.
Johnson is coming off his second consecutive Nextel Cup championship, and he and crew chief Chad Knaus have won 33 races in their six years together on the No. 48 Chevrolet team. Johnson has also finished in the top five in the final points standings all six seasons he's raced in Cup.
"I just offered it to him," Hendrick said. "It's a commitment. Jimmie and I talked about it, and Chad and I talked about it. You know, I want to do whatever I can do to keep it together.
"When you've got someone that you really enjoy being with, and you see that they've got unlimited potential and he and Chad have got great chemistry - I try to look down the road as far as they feel comfortable. So we know we're going to be together for a few more years. I'm going to do everything I can to give them everything they need and whatever they look forward to in the future."
Hendrick said it wouldn't be easy to keep Johnson and Knaus together for years to come, but the car owner said the whole organization is better with the two of them on the team.
Hendrick signed four-time Cup champion Jeff Gordon to a lifetime contract several years ago, so the move with Johnson would not be unprecedented.
"I think we all know and understand that we have a good thing," Johnson said. "With Jeff Gordon having a lifetime contract, it's just unheard of in motorsports anywhere. And there are special things that went on there, and times are different than they are now.
"This is home to me. Hendrick Motorsports is home to me. I don't need a lifetime contract to say that. I know where my home is. I know where I want to drive and who I want to work for. I have a contract through 2010. And after that we'll figure out what is in store for us for the future. But this is home for me. It's family, it's great."
