How great would it be if my boy in the 24 car won today?
Breaking Dale Sr's Record
-At Dale Senior's Track
-In front of Dale Senior's fans
-On Dale Senior's BIRTHDAY
This would be an UNBELIEVEABLE way to finally stick it to all those hayseed Earnhardt fans
Lets go 24!!!

And I'm personally glad they gave the boot and arrest all those jackoffs who decided to throw stuff...douches....
There's a TON to talk about this race...wow...just for the Tony Stewart stuff alone...was he pissed at McMurray at the end?
And the whole Jimmie/Tony Raines thing.....AND the whole Jimmie/Casey Mears thing...
yeesh...what a race!!!

It was good to see some of those animals getting caged. Most of those drunken idiots don't have the arm they think they do and a couple of years ago my friends 11 year old son got hit in the back of the head with a bottle and needed stitches.

Junior and Truex are done at DEI. Dale's putting together his own team with he and Truex as the two main drivers. JR Motorsports now becomes a Cup team. (http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news?slug=jb-juniorleaves050907&prov=yhoo&type=lgns)
And get this - the cars that JR Motorsports will be using.. .WILL BE BUILT BY HENDRICKS.

That being said, thanks for playing Theresa. That stream of income you had? Gone. Enjoy marketing Dale Sr's image, because that's all you got left.

I really don't understand what Theresa's strategy is or was. Dale was the cash cow of the operation, only followed by Truex. It sounds to me that Dale's taking Tony Jr. and everyone else that he can get his hands on with him.
She'll have no sponsors, (except for Menards) and nothing except Sr's legacy, which granted, is worth something, but nowhere near having two active cup teams of two very popular drivers.
PapaBear
05-09-2007, 10:39 PM
Maybe she's hoping to just cash in on the SR merchandising. If I'm not wrong, she'll keep that. I wouldn't be surprised if she left racing all together. You know... the Elvis kind of thing.

-They believe they have someone in Jeffrey...Kerry's son, who's still only 17 or 18, but is signed with DEI (http://blogs.courant.com/autoracing/2007/05/the_littler_e_j.html)
-And I'm also not sure if Jr. will even start his own team...not when he's saying he doesn't want JR motorsports to grow too fast and that he's got some "ideas for the future". I still think he sees all the dollar signs that he will generate if he goes to drive the 3 car for Childress

He's leaving DEI and looking for another team to race for....I guess that means the JR motorsports independent team train is off the tracks, which I understand. Going to an established team and winning there and then starting his own team makes more sense.

and pre race for the chase those 100 points were a big deal
now it dont mean shit as long as he is in the top 12 where everybody starts off with the same amount of points and get more points for each win
actually and i know its still early in the season but this is the second time since that the new race for the chase may cause jeff gordon to lose the championship
in the first year of the new race for the chase gordon would have won the championship under the old rules
and so far he's up 231 pts on jimmie johnson which if he held up would give him the championship, now ??? he gets bupkus

The ESPN article says maybe Junior finishes the year in the 5....don't know if he stays with it though
Jeff Dickerson, an attorney for Busch, told ESPN.com that "a lot of things may or may not occur. Out of respect for Hendrick Motorsports, we're not really sure what's going on yet. But we're trying. I don't think anything's changed yet. I cannot tell you that Kyle is out of the No. 5 for 2008."
Meanwhile, one potential scenario would be Casey Mears moving to the No. 5 and Earnhardt moving to the No. 25 currently being driven by Mears.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. to drive for Hendrick in 2008: announced via live on TV, Dale Earnhardt Jr., current driver of the #8 Budweiser Chevy for DEI, will drive for Hendrick Motorsports starting in 2008. Dale Jr. started the press conference with a short speach/explanation, then introduced his new team owner Rick Hendrick and unveiled the Hendrick Motorsports logo. One thing noticed...the biggest smile ever seen on Dale Jr.'s face.
Hendrick was asked about having a full stable of drivers, Hendrick immediately brought up Kyle Busch and working on a contract extension, that Busch was talking to other teams, Hendrick said conversations with Busch led both to realize it would be better for Busch to look at his other opportunities and part ways, but that Busch would run the #5 Chevy for the remainder of the season.
As for a car number and sponsor for Dale Earnhardt Jr., Hendrick said none of that has been finalized as of yet.
Dale Jr. said concerning Budweiser that sponsorship has not been talked about, before the press conference, SPEED reported that Budweiser is talking to other teams, including Kasey Kahne.
As for the #8, Dale Jr. mentioned he would like to keep the #8 and would talk to Teresa Earnhardt [owner of DEI #8] and that drew a large laugh from the media, but said he is looking for a number and car design that would look 'cool'.
***
If hendrick is sayign that about Busch, you can guarantee that Junior is getting the #5 team.
If Kahne goes to Budweiser, then he'll lose his sponsorship with Allstate.
If Jr. loses Bud, THEN WHY DID HE GO TO HENDRICK?????

(a) because Hendrick right now has the best racing company in NASCAR...If Junior wants to win titles, that's where hes going to win titles. Theyre MILES ahead of everyone on the new car/car of tomorrow
(b) because if he combines the Hendrick blue and gold with lets say...a Wrangler primary sponsorship, his car becomes this

someone fucked up big time....in NASCAR, you DO NOT mess with the COT. Those cars are pre-inspected and sealed before it leaves to go to the track at the NASCAR R&D center. If the teams mess with the cars after this, it could equal fines, point loss and even team member sitting at home.
Hell, with this infraction.........Johnson and Gordon could be sent home along with the team.

Junior was docked 100 points and Eury had to sit for 6 races for his screw-up. (Rear mounting, also a COT race)
If COT races are "more severe", that means at least 100 points and 6 races. Since Knaus has been caught cheating before, I wouldn't be surprised if his punishment was more severe.

I agree.
The thing with the 8 car that differs from the 24 and 48 is that this is a totally different area of the car. Messing with the front fenders after the specs have been met is a whole lot worse cause the front fenders can change the handling of the car tremendously. It was never said what the brackets would have accomplished on the 8 car. I just assumed it gave the wing a different pitch and would have added rear downforce.
Also, NASCAR is growing tired of the teams trying to get that advantage even after fines and points have been docked, that they are ready to make a huge example, and what bigger than the Champ and Jeff Gordon.

Though Gordon and Johnson will not be able to practice or qualify Friday, both cars on Friday afternoon passed the portion of inspection that they failed earlier today, NASCAR Scene reported on its web site.
The cars of defending NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson and series points leader Jeff Gordon failed inspection and were barred from all activity Friday at Infineon Raceway, including qualifying.
NASCAR said the No. 24 and No. 48 Chevrolets, both owned by Hendrick Motorsports, had modifications to the front fenders that were deemed illegal during morning inspection. Both cars, however, did pass inspection Friday afternoon for the portion of inspection that they failed earlier in the day, NASCAR Scene reported on its web site.
Both cars will start from the rear of the 43-car field. Gordon, the four-time series champion, is the defending race winner.

but the points wont matter come race for the chase time
so whether jeff is up 100 or 500
once we get to race 27 they all go to 5000 and whoever has wins gets 10 points each for those wins
so right now jeff gordon has 4 wins and so does JJ who also has 4 so even though jeff is leading by 264 points over 2nd place come race for the chase they'd be tied for first

I understand that, but penalizing Gordon now may affect him. It may not affect JJ as he's shown he can win with a literal bowl of gravy as his crew chief, but Gordon has a very tight relationship with Letarte. Remember, Letarte basically handed Gordon that win at Pocono.

And don't act like no one from Dale Jr.'s camp whined when he got caught:
Here's the difference:
NASCAR handed down the penalty. Siegel said the ruling was extreme.
Before NASCAR even decides what happens to Gordon and JJ, what Gordon is saying what NASCAR did to him and JJ was enough, which basically says that he thinks what he did was the same as speeding through the pits, when it clearly wasn't. What happened was on-par with what Junior did, and it's made worse by the fact that this isn't the first time Knaus' team has been caught trying to make illegal modifications.
If Gordon and JJ don't get the same penalty as JR, there will be a major double standard in play.

Considering it was a gray area, they didn't race with it in either qualifying or practice or in the actual race, and were pretty much put out of any chance of victory for this race anyway seeing as they had to start from the rear, what else can they really do?
They'll get docked points and fined...and their chiefs will be suspended a couple races. What else do you want? Do you want them lined up and shot?
All I want is fairness. Jr. got docked 100 points and his chief had to sit six races. The same should be enforced for them. It's basically the same violation.

I was wondering if anything has been handed down yet 5:15 E.S.T...I will go look at nascar.com I think the penalty should take in to consideration that this is the second time this year for Chad....The 25 and 5 did not get the info WHY???

Why would there be a "double standard"? If anything, NASCAR would be HARSHER on JJ and JG, because there's a whole hell of a lot more hayseed Earnhardt fans that would be pleased to see something really bad happen here.
And still...."gray area" vs. "flagrant violation"....two different things

Can't wait my first motorsports race of any sort is next Sunday. We're in turn one. I saw my father in laws pics from last september at those seats and they look mint.
Saw the COT 11 at an airshow in RI over the weekend and i'm sure my height wouldn't be a problem in that. The old car it'd be an issue.
Love Sanoma, race that track all the time on GT4.
Loudon is a good track to see a race at but be ready for the worst traffic you've ever seen. The last time I was up there it was two lanes going in and out.
Gordon crying about his penalty doesn't surprise me. Somehow he feels that the penalties that are good for everyone else are excessive for someone as special as him. I hope they are both lined up and shot along with their crewchiefs. They keep saying how there will be no tolerance with these cars, now they need to back it up. Junior got a big penalty, make the Hendrick guys face the same. My personal felling is that if the car hasn't raced illegally there should not be a penalty for anyone but since they have set a precedent they should be consistant.

Both Gordon and JJ lose 100 driver points.
Letarte and Knaus fined 100K plus suspended for six races and on probation til the end of the year.
Hendrick loses 100 owner points for the 24, Gordon loses 100 owner points for the 48.
Fair is fair. Good job by NASCAR.

It's a sticky situation because it was both Hendrick cars from the same shop being hit for the same violation. If Gordon was hit for one thing and JJ another, I could see Knaus getting a bigger suspension.

Great race yesterday. First race I'd ever been too. Sat right down in corner 1. Have some pics but nothing that great. I'll try to get some up later today. My brother in law rented me and my wife the Nextell video/scanner. So we had a live video feed for down in turns 3 and 4 where we couldn't see that well, and stats for all the racers. And the on roof cams from 6 of the cars. Really a great time. Not nearly as "rednecky" as I was expecting. And that's saying a lot for New Hampshire. The place erupted when Gordon ran out of laps.

ABC utilized a split screen approach for their coverage on the Indy 500. I'm not sure if they do that for all their Indy races, or just "The Big One".
I've never had a problem with Fox's coverage, because they don't treat you liked idiots. Plus they cut away from commercials if something major happens during a break.
ESPN's coverage is good, but the "Bottom Line" scroll bar gets REALLY aggravating with the driver/stats scroll bar at the top of the screen.
TNT? Don't get me started. If I do, we start with Bill Webber.

I think the Wide Open Coverage will be a success....they should stick with it. They probably won't cause back in 1999 or so when the Coca Cola 600 was on TBS....they had a Wide Open like deal called "NO Brakes Commericals". It wasn't as effective....and obviously didn't carry over.

I think it's going to be Jr. driving Pepsi, and he'll run different paint schemes. They won't just focus on one drink.
Makes a ton of sense with Pepsi losing pouring rights to Coke. They had to do something.

I think Jeff only runs a Pepsi paint scheme maybe 3-4 times a year, if that?
I think if Pepsi becomes the primary sponsor of Dale, then Dale is the only one racing it, and Gordon is primary Dupont only. You'd see them together in Pepsi commercials, but Dale would be Pepsi's big dog.
I think what would happen is that Pepsi would probably have the cars focus on specific drinks on specific races. Like, Dale would run the Pepsi car for 24-30 races, but for those other 6-12 races, he'd run Mug Root Beer, Mountain Dew, Sierra Mist, Diet Pepsi, and Diet Pepsi Max.
