Just built my first PC, everything is running fine, im using it to make this post except the processor speed. I have an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice and a MSI k8N Neo4-f Motherboard and im not sure what settings to use in the BIOS to get an optimum CPU speed. Anyone?

That's pretty cool.

What are you naming it?

Over clocking, RAM timings? is it running at a slower speed than you expected?

My bios has a function that makes it simple. I think it said "optimize", or something like that.

Well I bought the CPU and motherboard seperately. It's a Athlon 3200+ and all tests that I run, Im only getting 2ghz tops. There's something in the manual about when more CPU speed is needed, the motherboard kicks in and delivers more power... i don't know how true that is, whenever I try to up the multiplier I can't even get the computer to start up.
I am sooooo fuckin' horny right now.

Intel was making chips faster and faster while AMD chose to optimize. They needed to change the naming around because people were looking at them and thinking 'Hey, why would I want a 2.2 GHz chip from AMD when I can get a 3.2 one from Intel? Higher number must mean it's faster." But it's not so AMD did the whole xxxx+ naming thing in order to get people to realize it's not always about pure core speed.

I was beginning to suspect that, thanks for helping out. Now I feel like a dumbshit. My old pc was intel p4 2.8ghz with HT, ive tried both with the same amount of RAM and same video card, the AMD seems to run a lot more smoothly and quietly, don't know if it has anything to do with the CPU, but the AMD also starts up about 4x faster after a reboot.
