Pants hit the nail on the head, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

in my opinion this band changed the way we all view music.....im not even that big of a fan, but i simply can not deny what they did, you'd be hard pressed to find a band even today that wasnt in some way influenced by The Beatles

i'm not the biggest beatles fan, nor are they one of my favorite bands. they are great, i can't imagine how someone doesn't see that. i know there's different tastes to be accounted for, but to me the beatles just seem universal...something for everyone. in addition, they recorded over 200 songs (rough estimate) in just an 8 year recording career. the vast majority of those songs are very good to me. that's just mind boggling. i remember being a kid and hearing the beatles a-z on wnew and thinking they HAD to have been together for like 20-30 years.

Why i like the beatles is the different styles they went through in their career. From the boy bandish "Love me do", to something like Across the Universe is a something you don't see in many bands. They had the longetivity to do it, they did it successfully with most of the styles they tried to incorporate. Plus they have to be one of the most overplayed bands and its a credit to their depth in songs and strength of their hits that they don't become tired. I don't know, maybe its just the older generation not gettin music anymores.

I've been a huge fan since I was a kid in the 60's. My brothers, who are much younger, can't stand them. It's all a matter of taste as far as music goes. The thing about the Beatles is that they probably touched on most every kind of music in their songs. They started as a simple R&R band. They grew to play everything from country to soul, psychadelic, R&B and straight blues. And don't forget bringing in Eastern Influences. We can't, of course, forget the pop songs you still hear on every Lite FM station today (Thanks Paul!).

They not only influenced musical styles. They helped to initiate the social revolution of the 60's. That may be the most important part of their legacy. It's very hard to look back from 40 years and be able to realize what they did as it's now too far of a separation. For a contrast, just look at how stiff society was in the late 50's and early 60's, then look at how we were acting, dressing, speaking out etc... from about 1966 on. This was right about when the Beatles started to break out of the standard Rock & Roll Group mold and began experimenting with different forms of music, dress and attitude. No music group did that before them. I think Dylan may be the only other artist of that time that seemed to go along the same sort of path artistically, socially and intellectually. The Stones always seemed to be a step behind the Beatles as far as the social angle goes.

Love 'em or hate 'em, The Beatles had a big effect on society both musically and socially.

Sorry for rambling on so...

when a band goes into the studio they say to themselves
"listen guys, lets work hard on this and turn out a good album"... then they will work on an album for a year or two and see what comes out.... when the Beatles went into the studio it wasnt even a question of if it would be good, but how good will this be....

they were the first artists to use Stereo while recording there music..... think about it.... try listening to music in mono, its aweful

I like rock & roll; I don't like much else.

Why rock & roll?

That's the music that inspired me to play music. There is nothing conceptually better than rock & roll. No group, be it Beatles, Dylan or Stones, have ever improved on ``Whole Lot of Shaking,'' for my money. Or maybe I'm like our parents: That's my period, and I dig it, and I'll never leave it.

What do you think rock & roll will become in the future?

Whatever we make it. If we want to go bullshitting off into intellectualism with rock & roll, then we are going to get bullshitting rock intellectualism. If we want real rock & roll, it's up to all of us to create it and stop being hyped by the revolutionary image and long hair. We've got to get over that bit. That's what cutting hair is about. Let's own up now and see who's who, who is doing something about what, and who is making music, and who is laying down bullshit. Rock & roll will be whatever we make it.

Why do you think it means so much to people?

Because the best stuff is primitive enough and has no bullshit. It gets through to you; it got through to me, the only thing to get through to me of all the things that were happening when I was fifteen. Rock & roll then was real; everything else was unreal. The thing about rock & roll, good rock & roll - whatever good means and all that shit - is that it's real, and realism gets through to you despite yourself. You recognize something in it which is true, like all true art. Whatever art is, readers. Okay. If it's real, it's simple usually, and if it's simple, it's true. Something like that.

Did they influence music? Yes. Do I like them? Not at all. File them next to the Rolling Stones, The Doors and Zepplin for me, I've grown tired of all of it. I don't think that's necessarily a reflection on those bands however, I just think a lot of people have heard all these songs a thousand times and are sick of them. Put it this way, I LOVE Rush, but I listen to them when I feel like it, and only when I feel like it. The Beatles are still played constantly. I don't have to hear about how great Rush was in every discussion about music, I do with the Beatles. Influential? Sure, but not my deal.

Let's see...

The relevance of a band, who's last album was released over 36 years ago, is still being discussed around the world on a daily basis. I think that qualifies them as being influential. Were they good? That's up to the individual. But they were definitely influential.
