In another picture, a student is dressed as Aunt Jemima and carries a gun.
"That upsets me," Elder said. "That's someone who knows nothing about Dr. King, because Dr. King was totally about nonviolence."

So was Aunt Jemima.

I thought it was stupid to get upset about this until I saw they did it on MLK day. That's just fucked up.

Yes, there were probably a dozen other parties like this on the same day throughout the country. And I know there are black parties that make fun of whites. Both are wrong, but inevitable among the young.

But they didn't brag about it. That's the difference.

I wonder, if a Muslim college group were to have a "9/11 party" next September, with WTC statues and crying eagles and some "freedom fries", what would the reaction be from these free speech warriors?

Mojo, thanks for trying to bring some sense to this thread. Some people who have never experienced racism or realize how prevelant it still is have a hard time grasping why people are so 'sensitive'.

A similar thing happened at my beloved college last year. I don't think it's remotely funny and I'm really glad our president stood up and the kids 'withdrew' but were basically kicked out. There is still a lot of racism out there, especially in the south. I am now married to a black man and I was really ignorant to some of the stuff he has endured and still does; my eyes have been opened.

So is this funny too? I don't think so. I don't see a difference.

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/texassouthwest/stories/DN-aggievideo_09tex.ART.State.Edition1.3dfdcd5.html
