I'm in my first year working at hospital as a doctor, and prescribe pain meds all day (Percocet, demerol, lortab, etc.)

Anyhoo...I've got an infection in my tonsils that about closed off my airway and one of my friends in the ED put me on some prescription pain meds (note: I've never taken anything stronger than Advil before)....Let me just say...WOW!ÿ all the pain I had....GONE!ÿ I can see how people get addicted to this

Beer, weed, and codeine...The Hayseed Diet.

Anyway, watch it with thems perscription pain meds. I was on Vicodin for about a year for a herniated disk while I waited for doctors to decide wtf to do with me. Eventually, I got the faulty disk removed and the pain went away. Now, a year later, if I wanted to, I could go to my HMO and get 60 Vicodin every 10 days even though the pain is all gone. After the operation, the pain went away slowly, but it was up to me to stop taking the meds. I was actually really sick of taking them and I didn't find it nearly as hard to kick as cigarettes. But, there was a twinge there. A little voice whispering from the basement. Thankfully, I shut that door, but who knows what's down there if I have to open it again.

If your not careful, you can end up with a baby gorilla on your back, trying to eat your face and sack in California two years ago.

I have one of those personality types where I don't like the feeling of dependence.ÿ Gave up caffeine in high school for no other reason than a "mind over matter" type thing.ÿ I hate knowing that chemicals can dictate our minds.ÿ I'm actually on prescription strength Motrin right now to come down off the narcotics.ÿ Not to say I'm completely free of addiction (chocolate...probably sex), but I don't like chemicals that much...probably how I'm able to work with pain killers, nitrous oxide, and other temptations and not feel the urge to indulge

You should try ferrous oxide.

The doctor recently perscribed be Tylenol with Codine for my back pain. I had to call three days later and tell him they didn't do a thing for the pain, it's a drag to be an adult when you had fun as a kid...
Vicodin makes me soooooooo sick, so I cant go near it. I have had some major dental work done and it's always tylenol 3, and I love it. I realliy like Valium, but havent had it in years and years. When I got into my car accident I also had some muscle relaxers which I liked.
