When Ron and Fez and Opie and Anthony went off the air in the Wnew days I started listening to Sports talk and political talk. I needed to fill that listening gap with something else. I listened to any talk radio constantly to fill that void. Whatever I listen to I have to hear the whole thing. I go back to replays and re-listen to small parts to make sure I've absorbed every second of the show. Is anyone else like this? Is listening to the radio addictive to you?

I started listening to talk radio in 2002. It was local sports talk from 7 - 10am then Jim Rome show from 10 - 1 and back to local sports from 1 - 4:30 when I got off work.

When I got my XM back in March of '06 I started listening to O&A. It took a week or two before I caught a whole show of the buddays. Now I catch the occassional O&A show, more local sports, and then I'm listening to Ron and Fez.

I have become very interested in talk radio over the last 5 years. I like to hear different opinions on a vast array of subjects and I like to see how my opinion differs. At this point of my life music channels are just a filler for when the good talk radio isn't on.

A tidbit of useless information: the first talk show I ever listened to was Dr. Laura when I was 14 and working construction with my dad during summer holidays.

(all times noted in this post are MDT)

lleeder, great topic.

it is addictive. when WNEW was gone i too would listen to other talk shows. the Jersey Guys filled a void for me for a while. not a bad show, but i love the ball breaking void that it filled.

Its odd but I find myself ONLY listening to talk over the past 4 yrs. I can usually find some format of talk on AM/XM that I enjoy listening to. It probably has to do with left brain/right brain stuff, but when I listen to music I "space out" more. Talk radio keeps me more alert on the road.

i first started listening to talk radio with o & a back when they were in new york and syndicated all over. when they were off the air i never listened to more talk radio. when i first got xm got addicted to o & a again. as soon as ron and fez came on, started listening a lot more, and can now say that i am addicted to ron and fez and occasionally catch o & a if i can. im starting to judge good and bad days by if i can catch both the xm and free fm feeds in their entirety.

back in the old WNEW days, at one point, i listened to the radio chick from 12-3 O&A from 3-7 and ron & fez from 7-11. if anyone is keeping count thats 11 hours of talk radio a day, which is insane. ive since cut down my habit to a half hour of O&A on the drive to work, half hour of ron & fez on my lunch break, the 6-9pm Free FM show, and however much of the midnight replay i can listen to on XM before i fall asleep. so im down from about 11 hours to about 5.

Addictive? Back in the WNEW days I would use audio cassettes to tape R&F and O&A to get an archive going. This of course is before I knew about SU on the internet. I got really lucky in that I went to college in 2000 in washington,d.c. and OA was syndicated there at the time. Also when RF finally left wnew for wjfk i was able to listen everyday live. it was an obsession.

It wasn't just these two shows though. over summers i had to come home to NY and soon enough wnew was no more. WFAN was constantly on either in the car or at home as a comfort thing. i woudlnt ever actually turn off the radio in my room, i would just turn the volume all the way down. Joe Beningno and Steve Somers all the time.

Lots of posters mentioned finding other places they discovered on the dial while searching to fill the gaps. Some of the best ive heard have been Tony Kornhieser Mornings in DC and of course the great 'Savage Nation'. I love to listen to that idiot.

I don't know but listening is making me fat. I've been listening to Ron and Fez for about a year and a half but for the past few months I can't get out of my car cause I don't want to stop listening to them so I will just go get fast food and eat it in my car...does that make me a bad person?

I'm not sure if it's addictive, but I definitely always have to listen to some kind of talk radio. If I'm not listening to R and F or O and A, I'm listening to Brian Lehrer, Bob Edwards, WFAN or On The Media.

I started listening to talk when I was around 12 - 13.. Howard/Sports talk that type of thing... through the years ( around 18 of em damn I'm old) my taste for talk has evolved / devolved (depending how you look at it) many times. Along with talk always also enjoyed listening to music radio as well. Its dangerous to call it an addiction though.... I read a lot am I addicted to that? I work a lot am I addicted to that? I breath a lot am I addicted to that? I drink a lot am I... okay bad example...More likely Its probably some part of our / my personality that endears us / me to talk radio.

I started listening to talk radio my senior of college.ÿ I got majorly addicted to ESPN radio during a 2 hour drive home at 3 a.m. (All Night with Todd Wright, an awesome show)ÿ My love for sports talk radio got me to buy an XM...then I listened to O and A during the free-play week and loved them until the Free FM move, but by then, I was loving Ron and Fez even more.ÿ But my XM is on as much as possible, I even have to listen to talk radio when I'm asleep....I have the skyfi home kit, car kit, and boom box so that I have it at work, on the road, and at home...

When I was a kid I would sometimes put on the home shopping network because it felt like someone was talking to me. I was that popular. So, it was a cinch to get hooked on talk radio in '95 when I had a courier job. It was kind of the same thing, only I could call in and interact if I wanted to. I would listen to G. Gordon Liddy or sports talk or local morning call in shows. I drifted through Jim Rome and a few others but when I got XM it just killed everything else. O&A kind of helped me through a rough spot and now Ron and Fez have become the perfect fit. I don't know what I would do without my talk.

And thank you sleeves and thank you podcasts.
