I remember one episode where he was filling in for an absent detective and he was wearing his blues instead of a suit. As he was getting ready to take a report from from a robbery victim he introduced himself and said "Excuse the way I'm dressed." The victim looked at Levitt in his badge and uniform like he was out of his mind.

That was one of my favorite shows back in the day.

That's the guy? Man I loved that guy.Rip you deliciously funny devil.

I liked the guy, but when Levitt became a detective, Barney Miller jumped the shark.

One of the more memorable door entrances in tv; right up there with Lenny, Squiggy, and Kramer.

Levitt was the only kiss ass I ever liked.

And lets not forget his work in Mel Brooks' High Anxiety; Lifting a steamer trunk by himself, "I got it...I got it.....I dont got it"

R.I.P.

Levitt was a great character. He also starred in what I think was one of the great unsung comedies of the 80s (along with ESD's favorite Dom DeLuise), Fatso.

"What makes you think there's one drop of honey left in the house? You know where I found the jelly jar? Overturned on top of the statue of our Blessed Virgin Mother." <crosses himself>

Godspeed Junior.

I have fond memories of watching Barney Miller, it was a great funny show, not to mention a great Cast. I was sad to hear of his passing, he was a funny dude on the show.
