What the hell does that even mean?? Could someone explain this?

I am watching the Today show right now and they are talking about it and it confuses me. However, Raquel Welch is on, she is 66, and she looks amazing. I know, there has probably been a ton of plastic surgery, but i find her rather sexy.

It means the lifestyle people have at the age 60 today, is the type of lifestyle people had at the age 40 in the years past. It means that people are staying younger (in spirit), and in better shape longer than they used to. At least that's how I've always interpreted it.

I was feeling down that i'll be 27 in a month but then i saw that 30 is the new 20 so that means i'm 17? Cause in that case i'm going to live it up.

cupcakelove nailed the intentional meaning of the phrase.

The subconscious message is that the Baby Boomers are fraidy scared of getting old and dying.
