Anybody ever go to the '2600 - The Hacker Quarterly' web site? Back in the 90s I used to listen to a radio program called 'Off The Hook" on WBAI about 'phone phreaking' and hacking. If you can believe it in the early 90s the Internet was not available so people got off screwing around with the phone system. The audio from the old shows is available on the site. Its pretty 'dry' so only geeks should bother checking it out

http://www.2600.com/offthehook

Here's a good episode:

3/13/91 - The death of the New York Telephone repair computer, calling New York Telephone customer service and news department, how hacker bulletin boards are disappearing, how to start hacking, confusion over a "2126T" recording, a demonstration of different types of busy signals. Phiber Optik (famous hacker) makes his first appearance.

http://www.2600.com/offthehook/1991/0391.html

That's right - a demonstration of different types of busy signals. back in the day, I built one of those boxes that would replicate the tones when you entered quarters in a phone, so you could get free phone calls. I guess that's not hacking though. I guess it's phreaking. Fun shit though.
