News Story.

It started around 9am. I was sitting at my desk working when I smelled gas. I went to my kitchen, nothing. Then there was breaking news on TV. Apparently they've shut PATH service down.

I am really, really nauseous and I have a terrible headache.

Well that sucks. Sorry to hear that going on in your area Alice. Waitamin...Jersey City? Thats a wee bit close to where I live. I hope this gets fixed fast. And I hope this is just a big noxious industrial fart that just causes olfactory offense.

I find that Midtown Manhatten stinks worse, but maybe that's just my Jersey bias acting up.

I get nauseous when I go to the gas station so I'm pretty miserable right now.

My cats are pissed at me because I keep waking them up. You know, just in case...

Pretty scary to think the smell of natural gas can cover such a wide area. Why do I have a feeling that no one will have an answer to this and it will be swept under the rug?

Someone her ein the office (outside Philly) said they are EVACUATING parts of NY and NJ. Is that true?

I can't find any info on CNN or MSNBC

EDIT: MSNBC says that some buildings and commuter trains were evacuated.

I don't want to be callous, but how will this affrect today's show?

I think youre right Petrina. This probably will be kept hush hush. I was wondering how can a gas smell be that potent over the entire city and no word as to where its coming from?

 I blame Tigger!

This is unrelated but I know a woman who gets nauseous just from sitting inside a car. It doesn't have to be moving or anything. She just starts to barf. Must be fun having to live off of public transporation.

Um. Moving back to topic... hope it...gets cleaned up soon.

I wonder how you can keep something hush hush when the stench covers such a wide area and is noticed by thousands of people? It must be that Tigger controlled media. Mixing the stereotypes, I know.

"...while some believe that leak started somewhere in the Chelsea section of Manhattan, New York officials are concerned that the odor is emminating from Jersey City, New Jersey. When asked for a comment, Jersey City officials responded with a resounding 'he who smelt it Dealt it'" --AP

sr71blackbird

Mercaptan is the same odor my company puts in natural gas to give it its "rotten egg" odor. I remember a few years ago, there was a venting of this big gas transmission line that runs from CT to the north shore of the Island and it was a very overcast day. The gas couldnt dissapate and we had THOUSANDS of leak calls all over the Island. What a mess! We have to respond to every leak. Pretty much shut us down for two days.
