Ron touched on this with a comment to Earl on the Free FM show, but I been thinking about this for some time now. I'm only 30 years old but I feel much MUCH older when i go to a show these days. It seems that people my age either dont get into newer rock acts or they just dont go to shows anymore. Just a few weeks ago I went to see Glassjaw, I was asked by several minors if I can buy them beer. In fact My friend and I and a couple of parents that didnt seem to really want to be there were the only ones at the bar. The same thing has happened to me at Incubus, Head Automatica, and even System of a Down shows. The greatest thing about music is seeing it live, but at the same time I dont want to feel like I'm closer to death then 95% of the people at the venue. I just dont get it. I absolutely love live music, I guess I'll have to wait for Iron Maiden to come around, this way I can feel young again.

i feel the same way and im only 25, all the shows i go to is a bunch of teenyboppers who think they're hot shit, and it annoys the fuck out of me. i wont attend warped tour because its so bad.

oh man I would feel like I forgot my walker at the warp tour. Fuck if it wasnt for Black Sabbath and the latest old rock act Ozzy's dug up from the grave to tour with them, I wouldnt feel right going to OzzFest.

The last concert I went to was a DMB show three years ago (don't judge me... I won free tickets). Thank God it was an outdoor venue, so I could smoke. I couldn't believe the heavy cell phone dependency! Beers were 7 bucks. I chose to wait until I got back to my camp site to drink.

At least I got laid after the show. But wait... the show was 3 years ago. I mentioned I got laid... but I forgot to mention, it was the last time I got laid.

I need to go to another concert.

There really comes a point when you stop going to concerts, especially if they are General Admission. I think the last band I HAD to see was Bauhaus in 1998.

I'm really over standing around to see people who can care less about me.

I'm 42 and will never stop goin to shows.

Check out a Gov't Mule show and you'll fit right in, Warren attracts people of all ages and he really rips it up.

Wipespread Panic is another good show also.

These two bands tour the eastcoast very regular and it's a real treat when they venture out west!

I never get tired of going to shows, mainly because I established my snooty "if they play a venue that holds more than a thousand people, fuck 'em" rule a long time ago.

I'm 40, and I have to admit that I don't even follow current music. Where are you going to listen to it? NY radio is just terrible, and I have so much music on my Ipod, I don't even turn on the radio to listen to music. I take recommendations from people for new music, but it doesn't even have to me "new". Just new to me.
<> That said, I like going to smaller venues - like Webster Hall - and just checking out whoever is playing that night. That's one of the advantages of living in the city: you can get a relatively cheap ticket, walk in off the street and at least see someone with an idea and some talent. I may not like what they're doing, but I can appreciate the effort and gesture. And, generally, the bands in those venues are still climbing the ladder, still selling it, and I like that energy.

I've actually hit the point of having my fill of going to shows. It's
got to be a band I really want to see for me to leave my cave.

The last time I went to an all ages show I just wanted to throw
hands every five minutes.

I stopped going to most shows after I went to see my favorite band, Superchunk, open for the Get up Kids at Roseland. I actually kind of liked the Get Up Kids too, but Superchunk had been around for ever, and influcenced the Get Up Kids, and they were my all time fav band at the time.

The crowd was mostly 14-16 year olds. In fact most of them made a face and were like "who are these old farts" when Superchunk opened. I actually yelled at one of them like an old person.

I then stood in the back and drank whilie Get up Kids played. Some stupid 14 year old girl was screeching and the top of her lungs running around like a maniac trying to get some stupid guys attention and almost ran into me a few times. The next time she ran past me, I stuck my foot out and tripped her and she went down good. That was probably the highlight of that show for me.

I really really like My Chemical Romance. They are one of the few bands that I am really interested in seeing live.

There is no way in hell I will go unless I have some kind of VIP no one can go near me seat. I can only imagine the teenybopperemogothlifeispathos 14 year olds I'd have to deal with.

I think I'm adopting Mojo's "smaller venues only" rule. Stadium and arena shows are just a nightmare and I want to start throwing elbows everytime some drunken teenager bumps into me. Seeing these little whelps pissing and puking in public is no great shakes either.

These kids today...

i went to see the white stripes in 05 and i was suprised at the number of older people there. there were a lot of people with their kids (but the kids weren't so young as to need someone with them) probably 35-40% of the crowd was over 30

The only shows I've seen lately are Brian Wilson's Pet Sounds and SMiLE tours. He only plays small theaters and most of the audience at his shows will break a hip if they get too crazy.

In the 90s and even early 00's, I went to shows almost weekly. This year, I went to 4 shows.

Black '47

Ministry/Revolting Cocks

Guns N Roses

Tenacious D

The first two were club shows where my friend(s) hung back during the main act, but were close up before it got too crowded for the opener.

The latter two were MSG, where I had a seat and I could just sit/stand in at my chair.

can't stand the kids these days. they're everything I was ten years ago and I hate them for it. now I just go see older bands. I saw the pogues last October, people were there with their small children, wierd but the show was great. then my wife schmoozed us backstage and I drank the pogues' beer.

I saw Wilco at Starland last year, they were probably one of if not THE best band i've seen thusfar. Honorable mention has to go to Spoon just because their show seemed to go on for hours and hours.

The only "arena" concert i've ever been to was at MSG when i saw NIN & QOTSA and our seats were on the ice maybe 6 rows back so it was fucking fantastic. I didn't have to experience anything other than sonic beautifulness and champagne cocktails.

I'm 34 and had my own original Rock Band until last year. We were together from 1998. We played most small clubs in Mid-North Jersey and in some clubs in NYC. It was a kool vibe to play small clubs where people were there for music and money wasn't the main purpose. That being said going to shows now are in clubs that are 1000+ people have no intamacy... there's no real connections with the audience. If you see a band at say MSG then see them again at PNC in NJ it's the same shtick... and mindless sheep just eat it up and scream at everything... singers usually say the same things between songs just change the city they're in... That's why I like to go to smaller clubs and see good bands who give a shit... By the way my band broke up because my guitar player got married and bought a house and was starting to try and have kids... That's when you/I start wondering if it's time to really grow up... I say FUCK NO!!!

I will do you one better, Mojo. I don't go to shows where the
club holds more than a hundred (which pretty much means I
only go to shows at the Sidebar). The secret is convince your
dad to go with you. It don't matter how old you are when you
are standing next to the bald guy whose pushing 60.
