Everyone can always point to Game 6 of the 86 series or Game 7 of the 94 Stanley Cup playoffs as favorite sports memories, but I want to go a little deeper - I want to find out what your favorite NON-playoff sports memories are...

Here's a few of mine (in no certain order)-

1) Marek Malik - It was at the time (and I think still is) the longest shootout in the short history of the new rules in the NHL. Against the Capitals in the 15th round, Malik hit a circus shot between the legs to win the game for the Rangers. Mike Crispino, who was subbing for Sam Rosen at the time, could only give a joyful scream as he put it away.

For personal reasons, I liked the Crispino call so much, I turned the audio over to the station I was working for to use as a drop on their show.

2) Trent Tucker - Martin Luther King Day in the Early 90's, Tucker hit a turnaround 3 at the buzzer to win the game for the Knicks against the Bulls. This shot is pointed to when the NBA changed the rules to add 10ths of seconds to the game clock.

3) Melky Cabrera - Red Sox vs. Yankees, 2006. With Manny Ramirez at the plate, Melky made an absolutely spectacular catch over the wall at the Stadium. Nobody realized what had happened - most thought Manny hit a home run - until Johnny Damon came running with his arms outstretched and a huge grin on his face.

4) The Green Lantern game - 2000, Jets vs. Buccanneers. Keyshawn Johnson had done a lot of trash talking, and the Jets effectively shut him up, using an option play of Curtis Martin passing to Wayne Chrebet for 18 yards with a minute left to win the game.

5) The Monday Night Miracle - Later in that same season, the Jets pulled off a miraculous comeback against the Dolphins. One of my favorite plays of all time is Jumbo Elliott catching the pass in the endzone, and ABC showing a slow-motion replay of the crazed, joyous look on his face.

6) Rutgers v. Louisville - Does this even need an explanation?

7) Probert vs. Domi I, Probert vs. Domi II - two of the best hockey fights ever, one of them turning into an all-out melee between the Red Wings and Rangers.

8) "The Perfect Day" - David Cone throws a perfect game for the Yankees in July 1999. That night, I have sixth row seats for Bruce Springsteen at Continental Airlines Arena.

Watching Dan Marino's records being chipped away. I bet he wishes he won the Superbowl because that's forever.

Watching big brawny athletes cry for any reason.

This shot is pointed to when the NBA changed the rules to add 10ths of seconds to the game clock.

I think they already had the 10th of a second clock then... it was just that the clock read .001 not .01 after that shot they made the rule the clock had to read at least .003 to get off a shot... again I think not sure...

I think I was eight but I vividly remember Doug Fluties hailmary

July 4, 1983 – Dave Righetti’s no-hitter against the Red Sox. I was 9 years old, and can still remember bouncing a tennis ball off the brick wall in my Grandparent’s back yard while listening to this game on the radio, enacting each pitch in those last three innings, but as a righty. I remember getting yelled at because I was throwing the ball about 5 feet from my father, who was manning the grill for the July 4th cookout. When the last strike breezed by Wade Boggs & landed in Butch Wynegar’s glove, I was dizzy with excitement.

October 1, 1995 – Donnie Baseball makes the playoffs. It was the last game of the season, in Toronto. Mattingly went 2-for-4, with a solo HR off Pat Hentgen. Steve Howe closed the game for the Yanks. The Yanks won 6-1, clinching the first ever AL Wild Card & I’ll never get the image of Mattingly bounding down the runway into the clubhouse with the boyish smile on his face, like a 5 year old who just dumped his Halloween loot on the kitchen table. I swear I tear up every time I watch the Donnie Yankeeography & they get to that footage.

the one's for me which come to mind are ones i have been in attendance for. f

irst: was a bills game against the dolphins about 4 years back over thanksgiving weekend. a blizzard started about halfway through and fans started going ballistic. ray lucas got pulled for the game and was shown crying on the sidelines because he was too cold.

second: the first home game for the sabres this season. sabres down 3-1 to canadians with 4 minutes to go. sabres tie the game and end up winning it in a shootout. ive never heard a place that loud in my entire life. it was hysteria for sabres fans.

there are too many to list for ones ive seen on tv...
